Wolves Skipper Again Linked Saturday, 15th Jun 2013 09:27
Town and Leicester City are chasing Mick McCarthy’s one-time Wolves captain Karl Henry, according to one of this morning’s tabloids.
The Blues boss is a big fan of Henry, who has been linked with Town on several occasions since McCarthy took over at Portman Road, however, the 30-year-old midfielder's lucrative Wolves contract runs for another three years and the reported asking price of £850,000 is likely to be well beyond the Blues at present. Leicester would currently appear a more likely destination.
Elsewhere, Town, Hull City and Blackburn Rovers are showing interest in Millwall keeper David Forde with the newly-promoted Tigers the favourites for his signature, according to Irish reports. The 33-year-old Ireland international has a year remaining on his contract with the Lions.
Some of this morning’s nationals also report Town offering terms to Wycombe winger Joel Grant and Tranmere keeper Owain Fon Williams, as reported by TWTD on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Blues, Crystal Palace, Doncaster, Blackpool and Millwall are all reported to have shown interest in 32-year-old Irish international midfielder Steven Reid, who is now close to agreeing new terms with his current club West Brom.

Cant believe the comments im reading. Heads went at wolves. Those players werent out of there depth in the premier league. You all say you trust mm and he rates him. Top class centre mid . Love him
I love the papers what they don't know they make up, I have faith in MM & TC to bring in and coach the right players and at the right price. We go through this gossip thing every summer and usually get one surprise!! Can't wait for the season to start and if we make the top 6 I'll be more than happy. In Mick we trust!!
Don't see how this will work?...surely Hyam & Skuse will be the first choice central pairing next season?...would rather see us concentrating on bringing Stearman back.
Tabb, Didsy, Murphy all loans. Stearman and DJ big pluses in saving our season. Loans not necessarily bad, folks. Reo was also a superstar while he was here. Joking about the last bit of course.
That will be a "no thanks" from me too then! but whilst i,m here regarding the Must sell Chopra posts..... I see that the local Ford dealer are doing some cracking deals on trade ins and will take any old worn out scrapper in part ex! Hmm maybe we could get a new mini bus for the youngsters
Have we ever been favourites to sign anyone? we have an owner whos worth over £625 million and we cant afford £850k, We had more money when John duncan was manager
But we did not have FFP !!!! The rules are crippling in only allowing a set level of investment ( cash from owner ) and a set level of loss over the season ! Basically only allowed to spend what is earned by the club so that the Portsmouth ( and others ) situation of massive debts and administration is less of a risk . The personal wealth of owners does not have any bearing on spend . This is why larger attendances are needed to help raise budgets for players . Some of the other clubs are going for broke this season and banking on promotion to justify their spending ! At least our owner is trying to avoid the risk of sanctions ( for overspending ) or administration . It may not look very good to a lot of people but IMO the owner is protecting the club from previous mistakes and doing what he thinks is right , at this time .
would add experience however, I'd rather see a better quality possibly more wage demanding winger for the team as i think we need 1 stella player and we will be there and there abouts next season
there are players out of contract just as good and even better than henry.
we already have plenty of good players and taylor will be like a new signing we dont need to spend the earth -we have just got mcgoldrick murphy and skuse within the structure so lets not get silly wanting money to be thrown around.
we have thrown millions away on players and it has not got us up-need to work on building a TEAM with few changes and maximum squad unity.
For gods sake the only players we should look at from Wolves are Stearman and Doyle. The rest are not any good. Just because Mick come from Wolves it does not mean we shall sign nothing but Wolves players. There are so much better out there that are young and have the passion to play for the town.
Whatever Karl Henry's abilities as a football player are, the fact is that he is 30 years old and so if we give him a permanent contract then he will have no sell-on value at the end of it. Therefore any money that we pay is dead money. Also, I suspect that if he has a three year deal then it will cost us a fortune to buy him out of it. I would prefer Stearman (even at the risk of limiting chances for Hewitt).
Going to against the grain here and get lots of minuses but so be it. When wolves got promotion as a blues fan in the midlands surrounded by Wolves fans, there was no question that he ran the show. Why he has gone wrong this year is that Solbakken, Saunders etc did not have him reined in like MM did at Wolves, they let him think too much (and Henry I am told under those conditions believes he is Steven Gerrard!). Under strict orders in a clearly defined role, his ball distribution is excellent. He was the player who pulled the strings of Kightly and Jarvis in Wolves promotion run. I know Tabb gives some creativity and yes Henry does have a short fuse, but MM got by far the best out of him and he is a creative player with an eye for the killer pass. If MM wants him, and it is an if, quite frankly I trust his judgement!
