Blues Close to Berra Deal
Monday, 8th Jul 2013 10:32

Town are reported to be close to signing ex-Wolves central defender Christophe Berra. The 28-year-old is out of contract having been released at the end of the season and has previously been linked with Rangers and Championship clubs including Blackpool.

Edinburgh-born Berra came through the youth system at Hearts and broke into the senior side in the 2003/04 season.

Capped 27 times by Scotland, scoring twice, Berra joined Mick McCarthy’s Wolves for £2.5 million in January 2009. The 6ft 3in tall defender went on to make 149 starts and five sub appearances while at Molineux without scoring.

Berra, whose father is French, had been linked with a move back to Scotland and Rangers but speaking over the weekend Gers’ boss Ally McCoist said he expected him to go elsewhere: “The deal for Berra is off. I think he is going to go to a Championship club.”

Meanwhile, Blackburn have confirmed the signing of Matt Kilgallon, another Blues defensive target, on a two-year deal.

Ex-Blue Matt Richards has joined Cheltenham on a two-year contract having left Shrewsbury at the end of last season.

What's the point in voting down perfectly reasonable comments? I assume one of them is Liastro_3109 as he usually seems to crop up with a negative or deliberately argumentative comment.

sucrePB1, those words aren't that long, they are all common, I think if you're struggling then we've found the real half-wit

Would be an excellent signing. Dont forget Smith misses quite a few games due to internationals (jet lag etc) so we do need 3 experienced first team quality center halves.
Im glad New Zealand diddnt quality for confederations cup. Smith should be fully charged for first game of new season!

werderbremenblue - we've signed 4 players with more imminent. That would suggest we can agree personal terms with players...

As presumptuous and vacuous as this diatribe reads, I must denounce the denunciations alliterated by sucrePB1. A preposterous, harangue of irrelevances!

Wanted to press the positive more than once but it wouldn't let me. Fantastic comment.

This will give us 3 good CB's fighting over 2 positions. This is good, it keeps the players on their toes and fighting to keep in the team through hard work and good form as opposed to de facto selection because there is nobody else to play there.

Chambers and Smith not guaranteed to carry last seasons form to this.. with good competition there's more chance

Where the hell does the EADT get the following headline from? "Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy is prepared to supplement his squad with some top young loan players from the Premier League." anyone else heard a rumour about this Phil and Co?

This is a player thats well recognized, it would be nice to sign a player who in his career has wracked up £millions in transfer fees and at 28 years of age will be at the peak of physical fitness. I'm not sure changing the formation will be a smart move or breaking up the Smith-Chambers partnership, it looks like he may well ask for a meaty weekly wage.

sucrePB1 - may I suggest that you purchase (buy) a dictionary (that is a book that you can look up long words so that you are able to communicate with the rest of us)? All comments are valid, but not everyone may agree with them.

I'd rather have Danny Higginbotham Liastro, Much better than Sonko! Although he was brilliant

So Chambers and Smith are so brilliant they are untouchable? Just remind me how many clubs we have turned down bids for them. The way some of you jokers talk they should should be playing for Barcelona or Real Madrid. They are just two average central defenders who have found there level, lower championship and no more.
