Town Closing in on Tenth Signing
Thursday, 25th Jul 2013 15:47

TWTD understands that the Blues are closing in on adding Manchester United midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe to their squad on loan, taking Mick McCarthy’s total of summer additions to 10.

While the deal is not yet done, we understand Town are very much the frontrunners to land Tunnicliffe and he could be in the squad for the final pre-season friendly at Notts County on Saturday.

Brighton were previously reported to have made a loan approach for the 20-year-old, while other Championship clubs are also believed to be eyeing the England U16 and U17 international, who spent time on loan at Peterborough United during 2011/12 and at Barnsley last season

Heywood-born Tunnicliffe plays in central midfield, an area where the Blues would still appear to require cover. Speaking on Tuesday, Mick McCarthy said he was looking to add only one more player to his squad ahead of the start of the season at Reading a week on Saturday.

Tunnicliffe has made two sub appearances in the Capital One Cup for the Red Devils, in addition to 15 senior starts and 18 games from the bench for his loan sides.

In April, Blues boss Mick McCarthy confirmed that he would utilise the loan market to augment his squad.

Tunnicliffe played in United’s reserves’ 1-0 friendly victory over Club Brugge last week, a game which was watched by the Town manager.

We lost Chopra, but we have effectively gained Taylor. So it's as if we have signed a new striker in that sense. Was gonna say Chopra is disruptive, but Taylor isn't squeaky clean!!

@alexsmith111

Your Down Votes on page 1 are a bit baffling, yes.
I'm sure you'll survive it though. It's like a punch from someone's index finger.

But it might have something to do with us buying the winger Doherty (for £50k), only a couple of days ago. And thereforeperhaps a protest against your 'memory issues'.

You may, of course, be a goldfish.
If that is the case, a short-term memory is entirely understandable.

But you do have a point: We've almost spent nothing (except pay-offs for contracts).

A bonus is that this will soothe our chairman's frustration over wasted millions (which is important for his future commitment). And he's learnt a lesson.or two.
It's a bit like buying some fancy shampoo for £4 a tube, then discovering Poundland.
(Not the gardening or food section, they're rubbish! Err...so a friend told me)
I digress...

Why is he to good to sit on the bench here when he spent most of his time on it at his other loan clubs!

If he joins what squad number will he get? Confused at the Colchester game as players seem to be wearing different numbers from the published squad numbers. That and trying to identify our new signings meant missed quite a bit of the action!

Lets sign up Sarah as well!

With Chopra gone it wouldn't surprise me to see another striker come in to make a 23 player squad.

If he come it could be a good thing for Hyam. Remember Mick and Tery pushing him forward a nd saying last season they will be looking for more goals from him from midfield.

Jack Marriott is more than capable of standing in for striker injuries in my opinion

Another loan signing.................................and there we were with the last 2 managers being lambasted daily by 99% of this place for making loan signings, but not a word against MM it seems.
