McGoldrick Championship Player of the Month
Friday, 4th Oct 2013 06:15

Town striker David McGoldrick has been named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for September. The 25-year-old beat fellow nominees Robert Green of QPR, Burnley’s Jason Shackell and Danny Guthrie from Reading.

Manager Mick McCarthy said: “I’m delighted Dids has won it, he’s thoroughly deserved it. He’s been outstanding, he really has.

“They all set high standards for themselves. He’s not happy with how he played on Tuesday night. But I thought he had a great first half, personally.

“That’s nice when he’s won that and he’s still not happy with how he’s played all the time. Setting high standards is great.”

McGoldrick, who signed a two-year permanent deal in the summer following a loan spell last season, previously picked up last December’s League One Player of the Month award for his displays while on loan with Coventry.

The last Town player to win the award was another striker, Connor Wickham, in February 2011.

Well done David, it is much deserved.

I should very much like to see Town thinking about offering an extention to his initial two year contract though, to give us some added financial protection when the Premiership and wealthy Championship clubs come knocking on the door, which they surely will, if he keeps up this impressive form.

Well done David, so pleased for you. Everyone on this board has been saying how well you have been playing so just shows how right they were. I do wish I could see you play and would have but Sky only announced the next TV match the week after I cancelled everything Sky because I was sick to death with their inequality and their lacking a sense of fair play and got no reponse to my complaints!

So pleased for McGoldrick! I've been very impressed with him at the games I've been to, and has a great relationship with the fans. Just sign him up on a longer contract please! Just get your shooting boots on for the away games now Dave.

David, if you look at this website, please accept our heartiest congratulations on this award. I watched you play at Birmingham, and you were way ahead of anyone on the pitch with your movement and thinking. This award is richly deserved.
