McCarthy Linked With Palace
Sunday, 3rd Nov 2013 09:56

Town boss Mick McCarthy is amongst the potential contenders for the vacant manager’s job at Crystal Palace, according a number of this morning’s tabloids. Ian Holloway left the Premier League’s bottom club by mutual consent in late October.

It’s claimed that Cardiff boss Malky Mackay has turned down the job, while former Stoke manager Tony Pulis is believed to be less than keen on the financial package having reportedly held talks.

Wales boss Chris Coleman, a former Palace player, is said to be the current frontrunner, with McCarthy and ex-England U21s boss Stuart Pearce also said to be on Palace’s long list. Former Birmingham and Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is thought to be interested.

One paper says serial Palace boss Steve Coppell, currently the director of football at Crawley, is wanted for a similar role with the Eagles.

Palace are said to be loath to pay compensation for their new boss, which would rule out McCarthy, who is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2015.

In any case, despite his family home being in South London, it seems unlikely that the Town boss would be interested in moving to a club which looks destined for relegation back to the Championship having been promoted through the play-offs in May.

Meanwhile, the Irish Examiner reports that Martin O’Neill has verbally accepted the Ireland job and will formally put pen to paper on a contract this week. Ex-Town boss Roy Keane will be his number two.

Elsewhere, the Blues are linked with a loan move for Tottenham's England U21 international striker Harry Kane.

The 20-year-old has previously spent time on loan at Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich and Leicester and was recently in action at Portman Road in the England U21s' 5-0 victory over Lithuania.

MM,one dimensional football that lacks inventiveness, ability to react to the other teams tactics, and plays to the likes of noble as a a player......yes go to palace and force
Evans to dig deep, decide as to whether he wants this club ,find a manger who can be all the things this club aspires to, and become a team that the fans want to watch ....Bradford, a watershed of sh!!e football Friday night...it is an entertainment sport and you don't have to win every game, but you do have to enjoy it and buy into the proposition...

I'm not worried about this at all. Mick won't want that job. Some people are forgetting the state we were in a few seasons ago under Keane and Jewell. Mick is having to steady the ship and fix everything that them 2 managers did to us. IT will take time. NO MANAGER can come in to a club with 7 points after 13 games, keep them up and then be riding high in the league the next season. I will be honest i have critisised Mick this season but only because he is a very defensive manager. He just needs to try and mix it up a bit and change formation sometimes and try get us playing more attractive football. THAT IS IT. He wouldn't have came in and expected promotion this season. He knows everything takes time and he is building a platform to work with. HONESTLY i don't think he knows his best 11 yet and people also forget that these players are now starting to gel together. We just need to kill teams off and not panic. MICK KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING. HE WON'T LEAVE. I can understand why he didn't rule himself out for Ireland job, because he wants to go back one day and would have been in 2 mind about it .

Walk the Wark - You've said before that MM wouldn't be able to keep us up 'if' we went up but look at Holloway's record in the Prem! Holloway himself has said he's 'burnt out' so why would you want him as manager!?

Also, as a personal favour, could you not put 'lol' after your posts? I thought they were only used by chavs and 8 year olds?

Went over for the Barnsley match, and I was not impressed by our performance. But it was one match, and we didn't actually lose. I remember last season coming over to watch us play Sheff. Wed. (0-3) and I came back to Sweden considerably more depressed. So, I agree we're not good enough at the moment, but at least we have some stability. Who's to say Mick can't build on this? Sometimes people seem to treat him as a moron. I don't believe someone who has been in the game as long as he has does not realise that he needs to increase our attacking options, but this type of player doesn't grow on trees. I'm happy to see what MM can do for us in the next 2-3 seasons, if that's how it works out. Let's judge him after that, not after every single result that doesn't go according to the form book. (Newcastle-Chelsea, anyone?)

slowtractorboy. agree with ur point of town fans should be careful what they wish for. and yes mm has done a great job to stabilise the club in the past year. but unfortunately, he is showing that hes tactically inept in that he simply refuses to change from his rigid 442 formation. the 2nd half on Friday, once Barnsley took control, was crying out for things to be changed. but what does he do? what he always does, makes the same like for like changes. and bringing on taylor with 10 mins to go? whats the point, takes about that time to getinto the pace of the game. should have come on at half time or with at least 30 mins to go, as for you saying we played very well 1st half. u must be easily pleased if that what you think. while it was better than the 1st half, the whole performance was total dross. the only player who did ok was tommy smith. ne other player could have been subbed as no1 at all performed on the night.

As I have stated before I do not want MM to go at present but if poor showings continue than it is a must ,and for those saying that is a craving for instant success then so be it , that is football now and other managers are getting instant success why not Town ?
What I don't understand is the massive MM love ,yes he saved us from relegation as Jewell did when he took over from Keane . But the man has won only 12 games from 38 this calendar year and only 1 away that is 3 points on offer from every possible 9 over a season that is relegation form not playoff form ?
At the same stage of the season in Jewells first year he had 20 points compared to MM s 17 ,yet he is doing some fantastic job ?
We need loans now to boost a very average squad the same way DJ did at the time of MMs arrival because 2 defeats to in form Blackpool and Leicester and we could be bottom 4 easily .
loan options - right backs Ake (CH), Kelly /Flanaghan (Liv) ,Boyata (MC)
Left Wingers Dorrans /Brunt (WBA), Obertan NEW , even Hoolahan from the scum
Playmakers - Allen LIV, Garvan , Palacious ST
Forwards - Vydra WB ,Sharp SOU,Kane TOT,Delfounso AV,Phillips CP,Proschwitz HL

Ok keaneish just for you my learned friend! Personally I think Blackpool set the Prem alight when they went up!
On burning out, I think everyone deserves a break now and then if they are suffering with stress don't you? Palace weren't fit to go up yet. So I'm not surprised he struggled with them

...but the point is Blackpool were relegated in the same season after failing to win after Christmas and Palace are now bottom and will be going down. Do you think Town are ready to go up!? No but we all want them to and who better to keep them up in a relegation dog fight than the man who has already proved he can do it in Championship and in the Premiership...MM!

If MM goes would agree that Holloway would be a great replacement. Not sure about promotion though but as has been said we would see some good footy! Think that the most MM will achieve is stability in the Championship. He has done a brilliant job is sorting out the squad, organising us, and make us harder to beat but where do we go from here? Without better players, which means money, probably mid table " respectability",which is an improvement -but not much of one.

Fair point. But I think you miss the real one Keanish. I'm a football fan. Points at any cost tactics are not for me. You clearly enjoy watching what MM dishes up. Don't think we'll ever agree mate

Just out of interest- what's your take on footballing sides like Swansea and West Brom? Any reason why Town shouldn't aspire to replicate their success?

MM record of keeping teams up in prem is not much better than Holloways. What you have to remember at Blackpool They had à wage cap of 10,000 à week. Put in respective we were paying thé likes ofLeadbitter à lot more in thé championship. They were unlucky to go down and played acttrative football!

Such idiots on here, dont u think leeds, derby, forest etc want to go up, fact is it aint that easy, the championship is a tough league and mm has steadied the ship. If we finish top half this then fine as long as theres progression. What if all your dreams come true, sack mm, play marriot etc and still no play offs, sack the next manager.

leeds forest and derby aren't happy with an away point, , not scoring hardly any goals and being 13th in the table.

they still have some ambition for this season other than mid table.

get a couple of loans in now, not in jan when it will be omly mathematically possible to get in the play-offs
