Marriott Waiting for His Chance
Wednesday, 6th Nov 2013 17:28

Young striker Jack Marriott is enjoying being part of the first team squad and is hoping to make another senior appearance soon. Marriott made a bright first-team debut as a sub at Burnley on the final day of last season.

The 19-year-old told the club site that he feels he has impressed the men who matter in the opening months of the campaign: “The gaffer and TC seem to be pleased with me so that’s good.

“I’ve been on the bench a few times and been involved in the squad and it’s been a great learning curve for me.

“My game has always been about scoring goals but I know I’ve got to work on improving other areas. The gaffer and TC have been doing that in training.”

When Marriott joined the Town youth set-up full-time in the summer of 2011, then-academy recruitment officer Malcolm Moore compared him with former Manchester City and Leicester striker Paul Dickov, while more recently current Blues top scorer David McGoldrick said he saw similarities with a youthful Michael Owen.

Marriott, who scored both goals as the U21s drew 2-2 at Swansea on Monday, says McGoldrick and the club’s other senior strikers are helping him in training.

“Didsy and Murph have been great with me as well and are always giving me bits of advice,” he added. “I have taken what they have said on board.

“I’ve just got to keep working hard and wait for my chance. I was warming up the whole of the second half against Bolton, eager to get on and trying to catch the gaffer’s eye. Hopefully, if I’m called upon, I can do a job for the team.”

Manager McCarthy has said he would be interested in letting Marriott out on loan if a club was to show interest.

Why send him out on loan when he is better than nouble? If anyone needs to go out on loan it is nouble! Give Marriott a chance!!!

I tend to associate the name Marriott with scoring. That can only be a good sign.

It would be nice to see him given a chance. The likes of Bowditch and Bent played for Town when they were 16/17 so at the age of 19 Marriott is old enough, but is he good enough? Let's give him some game time and find out.

The reason Marriott will not be in the team is simple, we have a drab manager who plays drab football. The same reason that we have no creativity in midfield, just players who can defend. Perhaps for Marriotts sake this may be a good thing he does not get a game, even Suarez would struggle with the service our strikers get from the midfield and our non existent wide men

Any chance we could see this line up this season?

Marriott McGoldrick
Taylor
Tunnicliffe Skuse
Cresswell Hewitt

Berra Smith Chambers

Gerken

May go horribly wrong but what is the harm in trying something different once in a while eh MM?

He'll be pulling a pension before Mick gives him his chance...Poor fella's way down the pecking order with "Super Frank" above him.. He's probably shown too much flair for Mick..Seriously though, having sat and watched that shambles on Friday night what harm would it do to give the kid a start..If he's as good as we think/hope he is then he may well be the spark to something good and positive.

Suffolkpunchdrunk that is exactly the line up and formation I want to see maybe with Mcgoldrick and taylor swapped round. Reminds me of 3-5-2 formation that worked so well during the Burley days. We have the players for it would bring so many more options
