Palace Interested in McGoldrick Claim
Saturday, 18th Jan 2014 09:13

New Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis is interested in Town top scorer David McGoldrick, according to a report in one of this morning’s papers.

The Daily Mail says Pulis is “keen” on McGoldrick, who has scored 17 goals for the Blues since joining from Nottingham Forest initially on loan last January.

Given his form with Town, it would be no surprise if Premier League clubs were keeping tabs on the 26-year-old.

McGoldrick, who has netted 13 of his Town goals this season, signed a contract until the end of June 2015 last summer.

As I said before, it worries me that we'll lose , not only him, but Cressy and Smith as well.

Excuse my French but you can feck right off pulls! If we lose mckgoldrick we would be screwed yes we're not a one man team but blimey wouldn't know where the goals would come from hope it's just paper talk!
One other thing how boring is it now were not linked with any players come on Marcus support the best manager we have had in years!!

Would he really want to swap a playoff push for a relegation scrap? Can't see him moving to Palace.

He's under contract so we would get some money for him - if he does go for the first time in a long time we have a manager who would invest that money wisely - no longer does anything like this worry me with Mick in charge

I think the one thing that dids lacks is pace and had he got that I think he would be in the premiership already. Bearing in mind the fact he has scored 13 goals so far this season and the fact he is under contract until 2015 IF he was ever sold we would get a pretty good fee im sure. slightly worrying that he has had his last 2 pens saved and was slightly lucky against preston when he was able to score the rebound. We rely far too heavily on dids for goals though

We will see plenty of these stories, where papers link any relegation-threatened top flight club with any high performing Championship player.

McGoldrick could do very well financially out of a move, and I would be anxious if we lost him, but he has a lot to lose by leaving. There's a lot more to weigh up than just the money.

He would give up playing for a team which could well go up in the next two seasons, where he has rebuilt his career, where he has a team set up for him as first choice striker and where he has an excellent coach in Terry Connor, all to sit on the bench at Palace, who we could well meet next season anyway.

The headline should read, 'Spurious claim prompts unnecessary fan hysteria'.

A big test for ME. Clear he's not freeing up funds for new players this January. His money. His call. But if he sells our main players as well, it would be a real worry.

However, this is just rumour. Lets hope he, Cresswell and Smith stay!

Jog on Pulis. Why would he want to join a team destined for relegation?

If there is truth in this story ? It's good that other clubs are looking at our players, for they must be doing something right to get the attention.

Trouble is, Premier clubs will always be able to cherry pick whomever they like from the Championship due to the gulf in finances. Players don't have 'that' much choice, and besides, they have short careers, they have to consider making as much as possible, as soon as possible.

Any deal has to make sense for both parties.

I am hoping that McGoldrick is mentally strong enough do dismiss such nonsense tabloid reports. Besides, he would most likely find himself at Palace in the Championship next season (most of their supporters think so).

Here is my Harry-esque contribution from the Palace forums:

"Nice and cheap compared to other players that will please the board "

"Sounds good, GET IT DONE THEN FFS. A lack of decisiveness is sending out a wave of depression over the club at the moment. "

"With Murray, Gayle, KaiKai and McGoldrick to choose from, we would rip the Championship a new one. And he may even do a job this season! Or maybe deep down i just like the name McGoldrick. "

There is always going to be PL clubs monitoring a player of his quality. I know he doesn't have pace but his movement and touch is PL quality and the boy can finish. I think ME needs to nail his colours to the mast and free up some cash for January or I fear we could lose two or three. We must invest if we want to make a push for the play offs. Other teams are doing it Leceister with a shrewd purchase of Phillips is likely to get them there imo. Come on ME we're well placed for a cash injection, best positiopn for many seasons. COYB

Far too much reaction to this for a story that is almost guaranteed nonsense. I give the papers a D-.

This is an occupational hazard. To be successful the team plays well, which attracts attention and this sort of speculation follows. There will be a lot more of this sort of attention if we are to play well enough to reach the Premier League. Teams at the bottom of the Premier League would rather take players off the likes of us, or at least unsettle them, than allow us as a team to replace them in the Premier League. It is only speculation so just ignore it.
Why would he want to go to Palace?

Sorry but McGoldrick is not a premiership player, nor are Smith or Cresswell. Far too many on here are so worried by headlines.

The only reason McGoldrick would move to Palace - if anything in the story which I doubt as it was in the Mail - would be money. But there again that is all players think about. There is no such thing in football as loyalty - just very greedy individuals!!!!

Sorry but I just don't see McGoldrick as a premier league player ATM. He went missing at times in the QPR match when we needed him most, I just don't think he's quite premier quality yet. There is far too much worry from people about this 'rumour'. Just paper talk with nothing to worry about, McGoldrick as well as Smith and Cresswell will be a town player after January. FACT! Now lets beat Millwall please. COYB
