Richardson Terms Reportedly Agreed
Friday, 24th Jan 2014 15:17

Town are understood to have agreed terms with Middlesbrough regarding the loan of right-back Frazer Richardson.

According to Sky Sports, the Blues and Boro have agreed an initial loan for the 31-year-old, who was close to joining Blackpool on a similar basis until Paul Ince’s sacking by the Tangerines earlier this week.

Rotherham-born Richardson started his career with Leeds where he made 145 starts and 28 sub appearances in nine years, scoring five times.

Having spent two spells on loan at Stoke early in his time at Elland Road, 5ft 11in tall Richardson moved on to Charlton in the summer of 2009.

After a year at the Valley he joined Southampton before signing for Boro at the start of this season. He has made only 11 appearances since his switch, the most recent in November.

Richardson won't be in the squad for Saturday's home game with Reading with the deal likely to go through on Monday.

Town boss Mick McCarthy has been keen to add to his defensive options during the transfer window with his regular back four and Tyrone Mings currently his only options.

Not a long term answer, but a good move to cover RB while hewitt gains more first team experience on loan...need to get Chambo back to CB and an experienced RB is what we want for the time being.

Haven't seen much of him to be honest. A natural right back is certainly something that was needed though. Now we could do with a reliable goalkeeper and a creative midfielder.

why not, would rather see a natural right back there than chambers(although i do like chambers) so yes please

Initial loan? Is that with a view to a permanent signing?

Why? If he is not good enough for boro then he is not good enough for us. After rk and pj I thought we had got a manager that knew the market inside out, somebody who finds gems like Jarvis, no instead he is relying on old loan players! Mick I thought you were better than this!

Michael11 I agree with you apart from where you say we need a reliable goalkeeper, dean gerken has shown his quality, for me he is good enough for us

While I agree that this is a good move broadly, it does seem strange that we had to loan someone so we can let one of our players go on loan (Hewitt). I suppose that's just how it works these days!

ericclacton looks as if he is playing one in the above photo!

Would have preferred Brayford but looks like he has gone to Sheffield United, been told this guy is a decent reliable player but nothing extraordinarily special

Hopefully this is the man who can shore up the RH flank and, if so, I wonder how MM will deal with Chambers? Maybe back in the middle of defence with Smith which worked so well last year. Then where would Berra go?

Our biggest problem this season is we've leaked too many goals by poor defending. We've scored enough to be in the play-offs.

I agree with this signing. He's a good and experienced right back for this level. People claiming Hewitt should come back but first team football is what he needs to develop as a player.

Mitch - so with that logic then, Man Utd shouldn't bother with Mata then? Cos he's not good enough for Chelsea.

Natural full back good with chambers in at centre half great move. Now mick has to get creativity in the middle with a holding skuse or hymn and idealy a pacy winger for eddie and murf only then will I stop moaning.6th spot is up for grabs, Mick at least go for it you never know....

Chambers into the middle then but who's going to make way? Have a feeling it may be Tommy for a little rest.

How about Berra in midfield along-side Skuse while Hyam is out?

He likes his forward runs does Berra; and MM seems to like two defensive central midfielders.

Fair enough, a specialist right back, which is what we been crying out for, if hewitt is going to remain at gillingham on loan. The key will now be who he drops out of chambers, his mate berra and smith. To me the chambers/smith partnership was very effective and proved a solid base to build on

Big suprise another defender, we already have a decent one, Elliott Hewitt should be in the team not on loan. Bring back Owen Garvan need à creative playermaker and a decent winger.

Round pegs in round holes is a good philosophy. Which is precisely why we should not stick Berra in the midfield!

Only my opinion but Berra for me has been outstanding this season so don't think he will make way. I love Chambers but sadly he is beaten too easily on the ground and the opposition teams have sussed this out. Chambo may survive for tomorrow as Richardson may be off the pace at the moment - that's of course if he comes.

Good to have a right back at the club, but not a long term solution. Would much rather we build a team rather than bring in a 31 year old on loan. Assume he's for cover only.

Still think that unless we bring in one if not two creative midfield players before the deadline it could be a very un eventful remainder of the season.
