McCarthy Makes Another Trip to Colchester
Tuesday, 4th Mar 2014 21:52

Town boss Mick McCarthy made his second visit to the Weston Homes Community Stadium in a week tonight to catch Colchester United’s 0-0 League One draw with Rotherham.

The Blues manager, who watched Town’s U21s win this afternoon, was previously at Colchester’s 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United last Tuesday.

McCarthy may have been keeping tabs on a specific player - Town-supporting keeper Sam Walker who recently joined the U's on a permanent basis from Chelsea is highly rated and was the standout performer against the Blades - or may just have been casting a more general eye over the teams.

Lee frecklington perhaps? Seems to have found his scoring boots this season.

Been looking at keepers for the number 1 spot next season and I think Boro Keeper Jason Steele would be a great shout. Brilliant number 1 but been cast out due to the arrival of Shay Given. Would be cheap and is a very good keeper in this division. You know it makes sense Mick

Interesting thoughts considering the season Gerken is having! Can't believe Mick is looking for a No.1 GK with the amount of MOTM displays Gerken's had then Loach when he's come in.

It is unlikely to be a goalkeeper.

Though rumours are often just that, a number of U's fans believe it could be Sanchez Watt. Interesting player. Wanted by arsenal and Barcelona and has ended up at Weston homes.

Loach could well be on his way in the summer, so I wouldn't be surprised if Mick is lining up a replacement. Seems likely that he's got his eye on someone at Colchester, but we can only speculate as to what player/position.

Sanchez Watt is less likely as he was suspended for the game Mick went to last week.

Will be interesting who, if anyone Mick is going there to watch. We signed Woody from Col U having scouted him regularly for a period of time and now for whatever reason he's not getting a look in. Probably because he doesn't run around like a headless chicken and doesn't do the boring jobs well. Least he tries to make things happen though

Jimmy86 ............ absolutely right - Wordsworth is a class act. Just not MM's type of player.

Perhaps he was there to meet the Colchester chairman, I think Dunne is on borrowed time and I reckon they want Boring Billy to take over. We can but hope
