Blues Linked With Leigertwood Move
Thursday, 26th Jun 2014 12:35

Town are reported to be closing in on the signing of Mikele Leigertwood, who was released by Reading at the end of last season.

The 31-year-old began his career with Wimbledon and has since spent time with Leyton Orient (loan), Crystal Palace, Sheffield United and QPR before joining the Royals, initially on loan in 2010, prior to signing a permanent deal in June 2011.

Londoner Leigertwood scored the goal which took Reading into the Premier League in 2012 but last season he was limited to three starts and one sub appearance having undergone ankle surgery at the beginning of the campaign.

The midfielder, who is 6ft 2in tall, has won 11 caps and scored two goals for Antigua and Barbuda.

Town boss Mick McCarthy is likely to be keen to add to his options in the centre of midfield with loanee Paul Green having left the club at the end of the season and not having been offered terms for the season ahead.

Take him play him next to Skuse, give Hyam time to develop. Don't be surprised if Marriot goes back out on loan. as Hyam shows to often we fans expect a player to be ready before his time. Slate the manager for sending him on loan then slate the new one for playing him.

Its time to stop being sentimental about the players we have.

He is a defensive player but better than hyam which is the idea (sign better than what we already have).

Do we want to evolve, progress and get promotion?

Yes is the answer so sign him if we can.

BlueandTruesince82 - Before his time? Hyam will be 23 soon, so he's too old for the Under 21s! :-)

As for Leigertwood, well, I hope we build the contract around his fitness given how few appearances he made last season.

I think he would be an excellent addition. I saw reading at doncaster last game if the season and we so effective and excellent on the day. I was impressed and would be very happy if if could show that kind of form for town over a sustained period. If hyam is a good player then he can learn from being around him and a good challenge for his space Iin the team can only be good for standards. . Add an attacking midfielder like Williams too then that would be fab. Coyb

Please no. Friend is a Reading fan and they call him 'legs of wood'. Surely we can do better

Another 30+ player, we were linked to him a couple of seasons ago, hardly gets the excitement levels going...but yet again only another 'link'.
