Hunt Set to Rejoin Blues
Friday, 27th Jun 2014 12:20

TWTD understands that Stephen Hunt will join up with the Town squad for pre-season training next week and is set to sign a one-year deal.

Hunt, 32, signed for the Blues last November on a short-term contract which was eventually extended until the end of the season.

The former Wolves, Brentford, Hull City and Reading man made 16 starts and eight sub appearances for Town, without scoring.

At the end of the campaign, manager Mick McCarthy said he would consider whether to offer permanent deals to Hunt and loanees Frazer Richardson β€” who is understood to be close to joining Rotherham - and Paul Green over the summer.

Hunt, who has spent the summer opening Tides, a gastropub in Rosslare, said he was keen to extend his stay at Portman Road, tweeting: β€œIt's been a pleasure to play for this club. To the players, staff, fans and the town, if I'm not back, all the best. Hope to be back.”

Dont forget Hunty hadnt played for a long time time when he joined us. I dont think he was ever actually 100% fit due to lack of game time.
Id expect to see a fitter and more consistant Hunty after a full preseason!

Good few early deals, well done so far MM and gang

Good signing, hard and honest. BUT what I really want to know is now that he's got the pub and about to get the contract has he got the dog?

This was always going to split opinions but for me this is not good business.

He is clearly past his best, does not have the pace and his delivery has been generally poor.

At a time when we have little money I do not see this as a great use of our funds. With the Henshall signing confirmed he could be an expensive bench warmer.

Really hoped I wouldnt read this, but as MM's mate I thought I would somehow.
Past his best and brings nothing to the team. Really had enough of the endless poor recruitment of players after a last payday.
MID TABLE MEDIOCRITY BECKONS.

Not sure what there is to worry about here as I am sure his salary will be at the lower level of the scale. He wants to play for us and gives 100% effort. I know he is past his best and I am sure he will be a squad player only but these are the sort of back up players MM likes. Not a world beater but handy to have around and better than Tabb.

Of more concern is what this might suggest - that things are far worse than we thought. Would an emerging youngster be on better wages than Hunt ? I doubt, but we don't seem to have any emerging youngsters, nor Cat 1 staus either so it seems. Something needs to change.

Glad hunt has signed its only a year deal and he will be good back up if nothing, and with a good pre season could do us well this time round. Like to see some more signings befor season starts some young hungry players who want to give their all for our club, in mm and tc we trust and shore when time comes there get them in, any players as good as didds would be nice, lets live in hope. Up the town COYB...

As I said. Whinge when we haven't signed anyone. Whinge when we do. More conspiracy theories than a Mel Gibson movie. Arsenal only devided who they were releasing yesterday. Some clubs still need to so. Whats Henshall btw? Geriatric? Wait no hes a youngster. The club is moving towards cat 1, a lot of MEs money has been directed that way (this dosnt count towards FFP). Could be worse, could have just picked up a womanising irishman who dissapears for a week at a time. Let's face it its not like there are to many lookers in Norfolk (not with the correct number of fingers and toes anyway). So we all know he will be off to the big smoke before you know it. AWOL both on and off the pitch from Mr Lafferty plz

I posted a little earlier than planned there. Hunt gives Town the energy that they lack and I am referring as much to mental energy as physical and remember is is the chosen one!

Hunt is a worker and gives 100% which is positive but i.m afraid he's past his sell by date and offers very little to the team. Poor from set pieces and doesn't know how to score a goal. U21's for him or bench not taking team forward.

Good to see signings at our club to add to our small squad, but a young raw lad and a guy that has been around the block many times is not the answer. We need 2 or 3 players to start in our team as we have players in wrong positions and as much as they do their best its not balanced and thats what causes us points in most games.Dont let the fans down MM on this issue it would be awful if last season was not built on.Im not expecting us to go up automatically but been around the playoffs like last season will do me..

Noel you crack me up.

You did nothing but moan right up to the end last season, and now you say another season "like last season" will do you???!!!

And the reference to MM not letting us down? We all (including the MM-haters) know that MM has a budget with pennies in it. All he can do is go after the best available freebies, as he has done all along.

YOU NEED TO TAKE MORE HAPPY WITH EVERYTHING PILLS..poor old town not a penny to spend,Where is all the other shoestring clubs getting money from.I dont have a problem with loans or freebies but where are they as a week or 2 before kick off is not the way to start a season. Thanks for the minus you never let me down. And as for last season the square pegs in round holes cost us not a small squad or no money you harry campers blamed that was my annoyance up to the end,and by the way Im on record thanking the team for their effort even if I was not happy with most of MM tactics or choice of team.

....... a case of being grateful for small mercies I guess - just short of the new season starting, and a somewhat WEAKER squad than we finished last season with - things weren't / aren't looking good in terms of actual signings.

Signing a Goalkeeper at least would be most welcome , amongst others, otherwise I can see us , yet again, kicking off half cocked - - whilst others hit the ground running (never to be caught possibly).

But hey - we're Ipswich, and are we allowed to expect more ? - many seem happy with the current state of play, and may well continue to be so.

'The club is moving towards cat 1, a lot of MEs money has been directed that way (this dosnt count towards FFP).'

Moving towards ! Why has there been no announcement, and the 'deadline'keeps getting moved ? If ME was genuinely interested the money would be it place and not have the club reliant upon sponsors and begging letters. Likewise Playford Road would still belong to the club. After all the talk 7 years ago about investing in youth we have not produced a decent keeper since his arrival and ourbest prospect is a budgie reject. You need to wake up and see what is happening.

ME still has to cover the costs of running the club. The club still does mot make any money. It loses it hand over fist. There is no doubt submisdion and application process. You want the ckub to buy success now but also invest in youth now. It can't do both. It has tried buying success it didnt wirk. Now it moves towsrds youth which takes time. At least its trying. Bigfrr clubs than us failing.
