Wordsworth Available as Ambrose Joins in Training
Thursday, 21st Aug 2014 14:06

Town boss Mick McCarthy has made midfielder Anthony Wordsworth available for loan or permanent move. Meanwhile, ex-Blue Darren Ambrose is training back at Playford Road.

McCarthy told the club site: “I have spoken to Woody and he’s available now to go out on loan or to join a club permanently. He needs to be out there playing games.”

Wordsworth joined Town from Colchester in January 2013 but has never established himself as a regular in the side, making only 10 starts and 10 sub appearances, scoring twice.

The 25-year-old was close to a loan move to Preston North End midway through last season.

McCarthy says free agent Ambrose, who was released by Birmingham at the end of last season following a loan spell with Greek side Apollon Smyrni, is simply training with the squad at present.

“It’s not a trial or anything like that,” he said. “It’s just like Jack Collison, who is also with us.

“Darren asked if he can train with us. We’re happy to let him do that but it’s no more than that.”

Ambrose, who moved to West Suffolk earlier in the summer, played for Colchester against the Blues in pre-season.

The 30-year-old came through the Town academy and made his senior debut at Arsenal close to the end of the Blues' 2001/02 Premier League campaign.

After establishing himself in the Town side after relegation he was sold less than a year later to Newcastle for £1 million as the club sought to raise cash having gone into administration.

The Harlow-born midfielder subsequently moved to Charlton before rejoining the Blues for two months on loan during the 2008/09 season but failed to win a permanent deal.

A spell with Crystal Palace followed before he joined Birmingham in July 2012.

Elsewhere, former Blues striker Michael Chopra has joined the Kerala Blasters in the new Indian Super League, a club owned by batting legend Sachin Tendulkar.

Blackburn Rovers have confirmed that they have received an offer from Premier League Hull City for another ex-Town striker, Jordan Rhodes.

Just seen this!...what the hell is going on Mick?..you've had all summer (over 3 months) to sort out who you do or don't want & now you seem to be offloading players willy nilly.

Not that bothered re Nouble cos he's been given more than a fair crack of the whip and is obviously not up to it BUT i'm seriously disappointed that you've shipped out Marriott for Sammon and now our only central midfielder with any creativity (plus a fan favourite).

I think you're starting to go down a very dangerous road tbh cos a lot of our fans are starting to lose patience with our lack of style..yes you're a safe pair of hands and you've just about sorted the defence out but at the expense of us playing attractive football.

I can handle boring football so long as we are winning but cr@p football and cr@p results won't wash for too long (see Keane & Jewell).

Tip..bringing in crocked players isn't going to help matters..Saturday could be a big turning point!

if you a creative player and dont want to play the dire long ball gamke forget about coming to ipswich.

in my opinion Mick Mcarthy needs to go full stop.

we are playing an outdated style based on pumping it forward and playing the % game its just awful--taylor woody and marriot not good enough-sammon tabb and banjer getting game time!
its not football as we know it under mick and I feel he has a date with his pension book

Well I hope this means Collison signs, certainly from a squad depth pov heneeds rreplacing. Ambrose was great for us, Charlton and Palace. Don't know why he didn't play much at brum and would take him personally. Worth a punt anywa. Woody hasnt made the grade, fine but replacement needed. Chopra, next stop Andorra 3rd division

Shame as liked Woody.
With regard to Collison, I don't actually think that injuries have been the issue with his career. My knowledge of the situation is that he was on the road to stardom and then a tragic event occurred, his father died ok the way to a game to watch him play. Understandably this took it out of him and he has never quite been the same since.
My feeling is that much like our friend Mr Walters, he probably needs the change of scenery after such am appalling incident to get back to his career and believe that he genuinely could be a huge plus to our team. Really hope we do give him a chance to prove himself...just a shame it's at Woody's expense.

There is much negativity and moaning so early on....time to calm down a bit. MM has something up his sleeve. I would love to see Jonny Williams back...he is presently nursing a thigh injury. We'll see.
Meanwhile, lets get behind the boys v the Scum on Saturday.

Everyone bashing Mick WILL be up his arse IF we beat Norwich. We should just wait til the window is done and we have a couple of loans in. Just hold tight, there is obviously a plan here. Whether it'll work is as yet unseen

Think you are going to see some central midfield loans, think you will see Williams back here as he want to play and he won't at palace,

Ambrose starting out for Town back in 2002 was a superb prospect and I think better than Bent and westlake and forcibly sold when we entered administration in 2003...always rated him but lost the plot it seems after leaving Palace.Could still prove useful.

Sad about and for Woody. Did well to get back after that spine injury, but his confidence hasn't been the same. Hope he can find a good niche in professional football. Best wishes, Woody!
