McGoldrick £8m Leicester Target
Saturday, 30th Aug 2014 08:18

Town and Premier League new boys Leicester City are in talks regarding an £8 million deal for striker David McGoldrick, according to various reports this morning.

Some sources are reporting that the Blues have already turned down a £6.5 million offer for the 26-year-old and that the frontman will miss today's game with a dead leg.

McGoldrick joined Town initially on loan from Nottingham Forest in January 2013, scoring four goals in 13 games and one sub appearance.

Having been released by Forest he put pen to paper on a permanent deal the following summer.

Last season he scored 16 goals before suffering a partial tear of the medial ligament in his right knee in February and missed the rest of the campaign.

He returned to action in pre-season and scored in the opening day victory over Fulham at Portman Road.

When McGoldrick signed his permanent deal with Town it was reported that he had agreed a two-year contract, however, manager Mick McCarthy said in April that the striker’s deal stretches beyond next summer, suggesting that the Blues have an option for a further season, although he wouldn’t go into details.

“He’s got more than a year to run," he said. “But his contract details are personal and for me to know and not you.”

While the Blues would be loath to lose their star striker, it would be difficult to turn down an offer of the size reported or to deny McGoldrick the chance to play in the Premier League. The transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday evening.

evans seems to have an ulterior motive for running our club if this sale goes ahead

Im concerned about this one, i doubt it will be 8m up front it will be installments and also the final figure will be subject to appearances and leicester staying in the premiership. so no real cash for investment in new players just money to pay wages etc. Im not being negative just trying to live in the real world ITFC is broke and ME is fed up of dipping in his own pocket FACT.

I'm probably in a minority here but I think we should sell. DMcG's form had considerably dipped in the games before he was injured and I've felt for a long time that we were too reliant on him. It will hopefully wake up Murphy, Badger & Sammon, we may even get Marriott back and playing for us. Also after a serious knee injury players are never quite the same.

As for what the club does with £8 million, well that's another matter.

I would want McGoldrick to stay ofcourse, but if the price is right and we have to sell, I would like us to try to get John Guidetti from Man C. He is a natural goalscorer if anybody is.

if mcGoldrick goes and we don't invest at least £5 million in players , mick will go and I wont blame him. to say we have re -invested the cresswell money is nonsense, we replaced loach's wages like for like and bru for Edwards , and bajner for ewbanks blake , we havnt seen a penny of that money come out of evans pocket.

Bob7881 Hardly any fees are paid up front by any club unless its a tiny fee. When we spend the money(if we sell) we wont have to pay all the cash up front for our signings if they are a decent sized fee.

no effing way, whats the point of selling players if we cant spend the cash, if we invested it i think would be a great deal, free transfer to 8 million, pretty good business, but if we sell him and dont replace him we will be playing leauge one football next year. garunteed

Surely you guys cannot think that Evans would even invest 1 penny back into the squad. We have seen nothing on the sales of Walters, Wickham and Cresswell. It would be a travesty to this club if McGoldrick left. We would have zero quality beyond defence, Mick would go and buy another god awful boring striker and we would slide out of the division the wrong way.

One of the only players of genuine quality left at the club is now being sold. As i've said on previous posts read what Marcus Evans said in his pre season notes very carefully . He is now asset stripping ready for sale of the club. Very disappointing for those of us who have committed to a season ticket.
DMcG deserves the chance and he has given his all for the club. Nobody can deny him this fantastic opportunity. Every cloud has a silver lining cause at least we'll see him back here next season for sure....

Monkey_Blue I bow to your greater knowledge so the club will be paying transfer fees in the future i only hope that your source is correct.

Count Arthur, wake up Murphy, Bajner and Sammon.
They are awake, just not very good, and will never score goals with the service from our midfield.

Oh please no!! I've only just got McGoldrick on the back of my shirt, this cannot happen, not just because of my shirt but because he's the only real quality player we have left in our squad. God help us, the money will not be spent so for those saying take the money think twice!!

I hate the fact this is being discussed all over the media and other forums. McGoldrick has been our little secret for the past season +, you can tell that by the way clueless numptys are laughing that he is worth that amount, or the way most Leicester fans are in shock that they would be offering that much for him.

One Leicester fan did manage to nail it on the head though: Ulloa 16 goals in 38 caps (8 million paid), McGoldrick 16 in 34 caps. I know who I would rather have.

If we sell David that tells me everything i need to know about Marcus Evans, MM and Ipswich Town. No ambition to leave the championship in fact it looks the total opposite. We haven't replaced Creswell yet and something seriously needs to be done with our midfield. Is MM completely oblivious to what's going on with our side and what's seriously missing. He seems to loan out our better players. We are becoming a Stoke City but know way near as good.

This is a difficult one. It isn't good to stand in the way of a player who may wish to move up the leagues. On the other hand selling him will indicate to most fans that there is no serious will at this club to build a team to get promoted. If McGoldrick goes I can see disillusionment really setting in amongst fans and attendances plummeting, especially if no class acts are signed and we struggle mid-table or worse this season.

Sorry to say, but I believe there are legs in this story, the clubs are in 'talks', and guess what, Mick distanced himself from the selling of players, only a couple of days ago!
I can accept taking the money, 8 million, wow, but some of it HAS to be re-invested on pitch. Peter'boro are a great example of how to turn over profit from players, sell on for large fees but replace with exciting potential. They have just added the boy from Gateshead, a boy with loads of ability and therefore potential.Mick, Please find a few more Tyrone Mings.

Hate see our club, that has given more to English football than most, just get financially muscled out after 13 championship years. Fair play - bollix. If he goes we can look forward to a 14th year with even more of our rivals with pap hire payments. No wonder crowds are dropping.

Please tell me all you guys slating evans and saying he shouldnt sell him. If u were running a business, had got something for nothing and were offered £8m for it would u turn it down? Of ur answer is yes u clearly shouldnt be running a business. Clearly many of u didnt hear mark murphy on radio suffolk who interviewed me. If me wasnt interested any longer ehy would he have turned down many offers to sell the club and get his money back. At least if ur gonna slate some1 do it based on facts not ur own speculative ideas

If this report is true 8M is a fantastic price for a player that we got on a free transfer. McGoldrick is a talented player and is different to anything else that we have but with the club obviously needing funds due to the amount of years spent in arguably the hardest division to get out of and the limited funds that it has brought in ME and MM have no choice.
I just hope that with this money some funds (if the deal is true) are invested on players that have a bit of pace and dare i say flair as we currently lacking that in abundance and don't have anybody that plays on the last man and looks to get in behind!
keep the faith MM has done a fantastic job with what he inherited lets just hope he can get some pace in the team and play on the floor!

At least we haven't waited until the very last minute to sell our best playe... oh wait! Now every other team will know we have a bit of money to spend and will increase the price on any and all of our targets! Very wise Town, very wise.
