No Moves Before Window Closes
Monday, 1st Sep 2014 22:05

Town have confirmed that there will be no ins or outs before the transfer window closes at 11pm.

Despite Leicester and then Crystal Palace’s interest in David McGoldrick, and an Eagles approach for Tyrone Mings, no one left Portman Road.

With former loanee Ryan Tunnicliffe set to join Blackburn from Fulham on loan, there were no additions to Mick McCarthy’s squad.

McCarthy is set to give his view on the day’s proceedings in an interview with Ipswich Player on Tuesday morning.

After McGoldrick our most important players are Smith, Berra, and Chambers so really pleased all 3 didn't attract any deadline day attention.

Underwhelmed. Plenty shipped out in recent weeks and despite the midfield lacking goals and a jonny Williams creative spark, just a one goal in 8 striker signed. We look to be seriously lacking in numbers. I appreciate the emergency loan window opens soon, but with some winnable games coming up, it either means we will have to wait until October or lose the player over the busy Christmas period. A half season loan would have been much better.

Appreciate plenty on here disagree, but squad certainly weaker than last season, despite additional money from the Cresswell sale. Fewer players and less quality. ME said his strategy was to strengthen with one or two additions per summer, keeping the squad together. He has failed to do that in my opinion.

Whilst I believe that keeping hold of McGoldrick is a good thing, I believe it is only good if we are seriously investing in the team for a promotion push this year. If keeping hold if McGoldrick was matched by bringing in two or three real quality midfielders, then I would say that we are showing real ambition to get promotion.

However, I see us as nothing more than a mid table team at present and come May, McGoldrick will walk away for free.

I feel that Evans must decide which direction he wants to go down.

Do you know what I think the problem is? The local press and media including this site simply don't ask the owner and the manager the difficult questions - give them a harder time and maybe some progress could be made. Far too cosy a relationship. Why can't one of them just as MM the straight question "do you think the product justifies the ticket price?"...

There was no mention of our supposed bids or transfer news for Dids or Mings all day yesterday on any sites apart from our own ?

Looking at the transfers news on the BBC website it has Norwich City under League One. Sigh....if only.
Still, maybe it's a sign?

Much as I would love to be able to watch Town every week, geography and my own kids football ambitions scuppers that but I am at the end of my wits now so I really feel for you guys who turn up week in week out to watch the result of all this inaction.

I really just can't understand what the hell is going on. I don't think we should sell our stars unless we have replacements in mind and certainly avoiding the guff that is transfer deadline day is to the credit of the Board. But the problem is there just isn't any transfer strategy in place and worse still, no proper long term football philosophy for the club. What the hell have we got scouts for if as I understand it, the only players who have arrived at PR for trial this year have been hawked there by their agents and other than Bru, who against all expectations seems to have something to offer, they weren't any good anyway.

ME's business is corporate hospitality I believe. Here's a challenge - make visiting Portman Road on a Saturday afternoon a cracking day out full of atmosphere, entertainment and decent customer service..... I am sure most of us would put up paying the ridiculous prices if we were seeing players trying to express themselves on the pitch and having a go at winning promotion playing proper football, even if we didn't succeed. Since Magic that just hasn't happened.

Whose to say McGoldrick won't go in the January transfer window, if he plays well between now and then and remains free from injury I can see him going!

Read some of the papers this morning and shows the clubs 'intent' on keeping McGoldrick and how this will now give a waive of optimism! - really!?! Forget about the last day or so and nothing has changed, we're still somewhat weaker squad wise than last season and we still need at least 2 new faces in (hopefully Premiership players).

Time to splash the Cresswell cash on the loanees wages, unfortunately this is only a temporary fix but if we are genuinely ambitious about getting in the play-offs this has to be done.

Some really ridiculous moaning from some quarters on here,
Change for the sake of change is never a good thing.
Keeping Didsy was a clear sign by the owner that he wont be forced to sell our best players. MM said he didnt want him to go and he would only go if the owner thought it was the right thing to do. Clearly we have a manager supported by the owner and with intent to keep our best players.
The very same moaners would have been on here slating the owner and manager if he had let Didsy go saying he was unambitious and only in it for the money. Such hypocrisy
Keeping our best players and looking to bring in one or two loans (possibly Williams) is what MM has said all along. Now that the Sky Sports sponsored transfer window is shut perhaps we can get back to the football? Some of you just want a busy final transfer day because you think its exciting, not because it will necessarily benefit Ipswich.
