Ireland Scout Guppy Watches McGoldrick
Wednesday, 17th Sep 2014 10:03

Republic of Ireland scout Steve Guppy was at Portman Road for last night’s 2-0 victory over Brighton running the rule over Blues striker David McGoldrick, TWTD understands.

McGoldrick committed to playing for Ireland earlier this year and has been waiting for the paperwork regarding his qualification to be completed.

If the documentation is in place in time, the 26-year-old could receive his first call-up for October’s Euro 2016 qualifiers against Gibraltar and Germany.

Former England winger Guppy, 45, is a long-time associate of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill, having played for him at Wycombe, Leicester and Celtic.

He was a member of the Northern Irishman’s staff at Sunderland, before linking up with him again after he was handed his current role late last year.

In addition to McGoldrick, Town had several other Ireland or potential Ireland players in action last night.

Daryl Murphy recently won his 12th full cap in the 2-0 friendly victory over Oman, while loanee Conor Sammon has been capped nine times and was included in the provisional squad for the recent internationals before being left out of the final party.

Jay Tabb won Irish U21 caps as a youngster, while skipper Luke Chambers has also committed himself to playing international football with Ireland.

Stephen Hunt, who has won 39 full Ireland caps, wasn’t involved last night having played for the U21s at Charlton on Tuesday as he continues his comeback from his calf injury.

This is great!
My 10 year old's team here in Dublin have just been confirmed as visiting the academy at Ipswich next Easter to play against the Under 11s. Obviously each kid needs one of his parents there so chalk it down, that's one of my trips over this season sorted!
Sorry all you locals, there may be a few more of us joining the club soon! ;)

Ireland would be foolish not to use the Murphy/McGoldrick partnership to their advantage!
