Milne: Town Will Hit FFP Target
Saturday, 27th Sep 2014 20:30

Managing director Ian Milne says Town’s accounts for the 2013/14 season will be within Financial Fair Play (FFP) limits. Championship clubs are required to submit their accounts for the 2013/14 season to the authorities on December 2nd.

The FFP rules dictate that Championship clubs can have made a loss of only £3 million during 2013/14, with a further £5 million of shareholder investment also permitted.

“We’re going to be just in, which I think is important to say,” Milne told BBC Radio Suffolk's Life’s a Pitch.

“It’s not that we’re going to be well in because I’m sure fans will say we haven’t spent enough, but we’re going to be just in.”

Town have paid little in transfer fees in recent seasons - today’s starting XI cost only the £10,000 paid for Tyrone Mings - and Milne says the greatest expenditure for Championship clubs is player wages.

“If you talk to all the owners and chief executives of clubs, people think about large transfer fees, but that’s not really the issue.

“Once you’ve got them you’re spending between £5,000 and £15,000 [a week on players’ wages], and that is a lot of cash and that all goes into the equation.”

He added: “It’s done on a shoestring on transfer fees, but not on salaries. Whichever way you look at it, it’s money out the door.”

Meanwhile, he says Town are looking at utilising the Football League’s new beamback initiative, which will allow fans to watch some of the Blues' non-Saturday away matches at Portman Road.

“One good step the Football League have put together is the beambacks,” he said. “We are currently looking at a couple of opportunities because we think there is some interest in doing some games.”

Within FFP limits after £4m in on transfer fees, I should damn well think so

Think the £4m missed the cut off for last seasons accounts. Went through start of July but accounts up to 30th June

I am more interested to find out who is not within the targets and to see what the punishments will be.
Town are clearly spending bugger all - you don't need to be an accountant to see that but some are still throwing large sums of money around.

Thanksfully, our manager is proving a master of finding superb free transfer signings. A big departure from the millions wasted on fees by the previous two managers, particularly Keane.

The last time we went up as champions we spent only 300000 on a player , Eddie Youlds. Shoot magzine called us the last of the big spenders. Maybe MM will do better we a 10,000.

The lack of understanding of commerce and finance by most fans on this site beggars belief. How many times do you have to be told it has nothing to do with headline transfer fees and everything to do with wages, that rightly remain a private matter, that counts.

I like the beamback idea.... but I'd love it if town would stream live games for those of us that can't attend, I'd happily pay for that :)

........... if we are 'only just in' - some I guess will be 'well outside' ............... either way it's good news for us, but seems far too complicated - and we await the so called 'penalties' to allegedly be applied in due course for some !!!!

If the penalties for failure to comply are merely affordable fines or weak punishments, then most will see that it was worthwhile ignoring the rules. i.e. a good investment for a possible shot at a very lucrative premiership place.

Well Done! The FFP rules are incredibly difficult to comply with for a club like ours. As a trainee accountant I can only applaud town for controlling the finances so well, I do appreciate that this affects the quality of the team but I remember the worry of our administration - I'd rather have this team than no team at all. Mick is working miracles at the mo!

It never ceases to amaze me how rediculous some fans are in stating facts. Forget transfer fees. Do you seriously think players wages and agent fees cost absolutely nothing!? Wise up.

And as for the comments regarding the £4m we have supposedly been given. Cresswell's transfer fee is being handed over in instalements. To dumb it down, that means we haven't had anywhere near £4m for him yet!
