Monday, 10th Nov 2014 15:16

Town striker David McGoldrick has been added to the Republic of Ireland squad for their Euro 2016 qualifier against Scotland on Friday and their friendly with the USA next Tuesday.

Manager Martin O’Neill had previously said that the uncapped McGoldrick and Derby’s Cyrus Christie would be added to the squad if the paperwork relating to their qualification was completed on time and the documentation relating to the duo was finally sorted last week.

Fellow striker Daryl Murphy is also included but Blues loanee Conor Sammon doesn't make the final 27-man party having been named in the provisional squad but is on standby.

Christophe Berra's Scotland host Ireland at Celtic Park on Friday, with the USA at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin four days later.

Republic of Ireland: David Forde (Millwall), Shay Given (Aston Villa), Rob Elliot (Newcastle Utd), Darren Randolph (Birmingham), Seamus Coleman (Everton), Cyrus Christie (Derby County), Ciaran Clark (Aston Villa), Richard Keogh (Derby County), John O’Shea (Sunderland), Alex Pearce (Reading), Stephen Ward (Burnley), Robbie Brady (Hull City), Darron Gibson (Everton), Jeff Hendrick (Derby County), James McCarthy (Everton), Aiden McGeady (Everton), James McClean (Wigan), David Meyler (Hull City), Anthony Pilkington (Cardiff City), Stephen Quinn (Hull City), Kevin Doyle (Crystal Palace), Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy), Shane Long (Southampton), David McGoldrick (Ipswich Town), Daryl Murphy (Ipswich Town), Anthony Stokes (Celtic), Jon Walters (Stoke City).

Absolutely delighted with this on two fronts.

Firstly he will play for Ireland and we need an heir to Robbie Keane's throne.

Secondly, this has surely got to be good for him as an Ipswich player, a chance to play against international standard players on the world stage, bringing back his experience for the benefit of Town!

Blimey. Didz, Murph and Conor Sammon now eligible for Ireland. At this rate Ipswich will be qualifying for Euro 2016. :)

Great news for Didsy and fully deserved. Fingers crossed he stays injury free. This will all help him regain fitness having missed pre season. Quality player for sure COYB

Congratulations Didzy. I really hope this boosts him and had him firing on all cylinders again. We need it.

@ NoCanariesAllowed, yeah Ipswich at Euro2016 and Ireland playing in the Premier League!!
Classic!

Welcome Didz, a great player in the making for ireland. He has the guile and workrate & physicality for those key away fixtures, unlike Hoolihan who doesnt really turn up for away games.
Murphs and Didz up front for Ireland, it feels unreal actually!

Kevin Doyle and Robbie are coming to the ends of their careers :(, BUT we have a ready made partnership to step up! I cant see Stokes getting much of a look in. With Long in the mix we now have some very good options in attack!
