Shrewsbury Boss No Fan of Town - Updated
Shrewsbury Boss No Fan of Town - Updated
Monday, 22nd Dec 2014 19:06

Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon is clearly no Town fan judging by his reaction to a reporter wearing a Blues scarf for the post-match interviews after the Shrews’ 1-0 home victory over Morecambe on Saturday.

Shropshire Star reporter Joseph Masi’s blue and white neckwear didn’t go down at all well with the League Two side’s manager as he prepared to give his assessment of the game.

Earlier today, Mellon provided a replacement scarf.

...don't they...

He's an Ipswich fan working for a newspaper in Shropshire, that doesn't mean he's obliged to wear a Shrewsbury scarf or support Shrewsbury. He can wear whatever scarf he wants to go to work. I'm an Ipswich fan who has worked for a newspaper covering football elsewhere, and there's no chance somebody would stop me wearing what was, in fact, just a blue and white striped scarf.

Odd. I thought this Melon guy was a 'super fan' of Town, to be honest. Or at least he was when he used to be the EADT sports editor some years back now.

Still, nice to see he's moved into football management.

What are people getting steamed up about? He was having a laugh. I teach kids who turn up in the colours of all sorts of teams and I give them real stick, expecting some banter back! It would be a sadder world without it!

Yup, having a laugh, and pretending to be offended. I think the manager was kind of right to do it !

When was Mick Mellon sports editor of the EADT?? Thought he went straight from playing into coaching. Thought it was very funny anyway whether he was serious or not

According to Wikipedia, his birthday is 18 March. I might buy a birthday card from Planet Blue, sign it and address it to M. Mellon, c/o Shrewsbury Town FC.........

So it is possible for someone with the brain power of a non too bright child to become a football manager.
Mellon by name fruit cake by nature.

He's called Micky Mellon. That's the funniest thing regarding this story.

To be fair, that is just good bants. If it was a green and yellow Norwich scarf being slung into the stand we'd all be cracking up!

........ just shows how pathetic some supporters are - to take offence to such a trivial thing, and start maligning people for it, even to the point of being abusive - yet again !!

Lighten up people - and LIVE a life. After all it's XMAS - or is there something wrong with that also ??

Too right Blueboy. Mildly funny what he did and nothing to get in a lather about. Lighten up everyone :)

The naysayers must feel a bit silly now with the update.

Agree with Blue Machines, if it was MM we would all be calling him a comedy genius! Brilliant report Phil, great story & a nice bit of humour from Mellon.

Everyone should send him their scarf, mine is in the post as we speak! Let's create a story on Skysports! 'Mellon receives 3,000 town scarfs!

Oh I don't know... I'll probably start looking out for their results now and wishing them all the best.

Happy fackin Christmas to the Shrews!

No point getting offended by this. Far as I'm concerned he's having a laugh in front of the cameras.

Well, as long as he didn't chuck it in a fat puddle or something and ruin it - then I would be a bit miffed if I was the interviewer!

When I read the headline I was a bit put out but really the bloke was just having a laugh. Would have liked the reporter to refuse to take it off but come on folks this was a bit of fun. I hope we play one of Mellons teams in the future so we can give him some back.
I like the idea by statto72 of sending him an Ipswich Town birthday card - perhaps TWTDs could do something and get the reporter down to Radio Suffolk as a guest on Life's a Pitch.

I think Georgie should have worn a Town scarf when she reported at Naaaarwich!!
