Kenny Signing Confirmed
Tuesday, 20th Jan 2015 10:01

Town have confirmed the signing of keeper Paddy Kenny, as revealed by TWTD on Saturday.

The 36-year-old, who left Bolton at the end of a short-term contract yesterday, has signed a four-month deal as cover for Bartosz Bialkowski and Dean Gerken, who is currently sidelined for around a month with a hip injury.

Halifax-born Kenny, who will wear the number 35 shirt and goes into the squad for Wednesday’s game at Brighton, started his career with Bradford Park Avenue before moving on to Bury and Whitby Town (loan), prior to signing for Sheffield United, initially on loan, in 2002.

After eight years at Bramall Lane, Kenny joined QPR and Leeds before signing a short-term deal Bolton, for whom he failed to make an appearance, last summer.

In November the seven-times-capped Republic of Ireland international joined Oldham on loan, where he made four starts in a spell which ended earlier this month.

Meanwhile, AZ Alkmaar defender Wesley Hoedt, linked with the Blues earlier in the month by the Dutch press, is set to confirm a summer move to Lazio by signing a contract with the Italian side this week, according to Voetbal International.

Elsewhere, former Blues midfielder George O’Callaghan has been sacked by Malaysian Premier League side Sabah without taking charge of a competitive game.

O’Callaghan, 35, who signed El Hadji Diouf during his brief spell at the club, failed to turn up to pre-season training for almost a week and was dismissed.

I think we all shouted the same, but imo a good signing which was needed. We could not be expected to throw in a 19yr old keeper when we are possibly in contention for an automatic place or playoff place to get to the Premier League next season. As one Paddy to another Welcome. COYB's.

to be honest, i would have rathered a different keeper, but thinking about it more and more, i think this is a fantastic signing. always been a very steady championship keeper, and he will help the other lads tremendously with the vast amount of experience he has both in the championship and premiership. would like to see crowe given some loan time, as i believe he could be a fantastic keeper! maybe that's another reason to getting in paddy? well done mick!

Welcome aboard Paddy. Hopefully he'll never have to wear that shirt but an experienced keeper who wouldn't be fazed if he had to, can only be a good thing.

More hair and less weight ( i wish!!) but this is a clever and very shrewd signing.

I have no real faith in either of our goalies at moment and if match fit and sharp would be tempted to put him straight in.

Talking about Sharpe?

Paddy and Murphy? Lets hope Mick doesn't pair them up together. That'd be a joke.

I try to refrain from commenting on a player's, or for that matter a referee's, physical dimensions when at PR, but I'm sure I've had a go at Kenny in the past for taking rather longer than necessary over goal kicks. As someone pointed out above, that was probably usually because we were losing. So welcome, Paddy. All is forgiven. As a back-up goalkeeper, I think this is a smart move.

Welcome Paddy. Might be a chance for young Crowe to go out on loan and gain come first team experience.

Oh my god, we've signed Kenny!
Very shrewd move, shows intent that we're taking no chances in the run for promotion by having decent keeper options.

Shrewd move by Mick once more! Maybe one or two of us would have chosen a different keeper, but Kenny has been there and done it and is a good choice imo. He will provide good competition and healthy back-up, especially over the next few weeks whilst Gerks is out. I'm sure Crowe has a bright future and his time will come, but should anything happen to Bialkowski anytime soon, (at this point in our season and with where we are in the league) I for one would rather have an experienced keeper in between the sticks with 500+ league appearances under his belt and 2 promotions, over a 19 year old who has 0. 3 more points tomorrow please! COYB's!!!
