Marriott Signs for Luton
Wednesday, 20th May 2015 11:28

Luton Town have confirmed the signing of released Blues striker Jack Marriott on a one-year contract with a view to a longer term deal.

Marriott says he is keen to settle down at a club after two seasons where he has spent time on loan at Woking, on several occasions, Gillingham, Carlisle and Colchester.

“I’ve had two good seasons out on loan and learned a lot but now I’m ready to settle at a club where I’ve got a good chance to contribute to the team,” he told the Luton official website.

“I like to run in behind and threatened defences, hassle them and don’t give them a minute’s peace, and I like to score goals — that is my main target. I pride myself on goalscoring.”

Hatters manager John Still added: “Jack’s quick, he’s aggressive, he’s had a bit of Football League experience and he’s scored goals in the Conference.

“He’s somebody we actually looked at bringing in on loan during the Conference title season but we decided against it as we had the firepower at the time.

“So naturally he’s a player we’ve been looking at for a while — I actually first saw him playing for Ipswich reserves.

“And what I liked about him — putting goals to one side — was his attitude on the pitch. So we kept a close eye on him and when we knew something could be possible we’ve moved quickly.”

The 20-year-old made his one start for the Blues in the Capital One Cup at Crawley last season and came off the bench twice in the Championship ,having joined the academy as a schoolboy from Kettering.

Marriott's release by the Blues was confirmed earlier in the week.

Score 20 and move up to league 1 ,score 20 and move up to the championship ,do that again and you will have a decent career. Good luck , work as hard as possible and success will follow.

Good move for him staying in the football league and a chance at a club like Luton. Also works geographically as I think he's based Cambridge way. Hope he goes there and bangs them in. You get the feeling that if he's given a run in the side he'll do exactly that. Some people just have that knack of scoring goals and i think he's one of them. The comparisons to Jordan Rhodes feel a bit OTT, Rhodes was proving himself in League 1 at 19 and Ipswich fans were screaming for him to be given a chance at PR.

Absolutely career defining season coming up. All the best to him.

Best of luck Jack. I wish Mick had given you another year or two here. I am sure you will do well as when I have seen you play for the u21s, you have something about you. Put your head down and work hard, you have a bright future. Best of luck again.

Such a shame I thought with his goal record he was going to be a new young star but like so many, billy Clarke, bowditch, Haynes they started bright and couldn't make the jump, good luck to him and I'm sure everyone is thinking the same... Please don't be another Rhodes

Shame. Part of me nervous this will come back to bite us. This is called PRSD. Post Rhodes Stress Disorder. An irrational fear of letting something go then regretting it. Rife in the Suffolk area they say. Is Andy Drury at Luton? Wonder if he recommended Marriott.

Only a one year deals suggests there is some doubt on Luton's part as to whether he will make it at league level

Jack,

In the unlikely event that you are reading this, you have been given a second chance.

You have a year to prove yourself.

Work hard, do as you are told, don't screw up. You won't get a third chance.

Good luck!

Gone to a good footballing side, and in John Still, will work under a great man manager. Still will give him a fair crack, the rest is up to Jack. Very good move for the lad, better than I expected!

I watched Wycombe at Luton in march, and they weren't too bad. Played fairly direct, so he might be used to that coming from Ipswich! If anyone fancies a giggle, google their captain mcnulty. I can't believe he's a professional athlete, but he did the job in the game I saw!
