Premier League Trio Linked With Murphy
Sunday, 21st Jun 2015 10:37

Premier League trio Leicester, West Brom and Norwich are the latest clubs reported to be keen on Town’s 27-goal Championship top scorer Daryl Murphy.

According to the Daily Star Sunday, all three are looking to sign the 32-year-old, who the paper rates at £3 million.

Murphy has been the subject of much speculation since the end of the season with Stoke manager Mark Hughes also understood to be weighing up making a move.

Last week, Championship Middlesbrough were claimed to have had a £2.5 million offer turned down, while Cardiff were reported to have him at the top of their summer wish-list.

Newly-relegated Burnley and QPR as well as Fulham have also been mentioned in connection with the Waterford-born frontman, along with the other demoted former Premier League team Hull City, who were previously linked in January.

Manager Mick McCarthy and owner Marcus Evans have both said that they are determined to keep hold of the Blues' key players this summer, while Murphy has repeatedly stated that he has no intention of leaving Town as he and his family are settled in Suffolk.

Whether that would change should any of the reportedly interested Premier League clubs firm up their interest remains to be seen.

The former Waterford, Sunderland and Celtic frontman signed a new contract with Town last July, which has another year left to run with the Blues having an option to extend it for a further season.

So a week on from Norwich fans comparing Daryl Murphy to a donkey, they want to sign him. Interesting that.

He will not move - but his agent will get him a pay rise, new contract, signing on fee, loyalty bous etc at ITFC

What's changed?
We didn't sell McGoldrick for £8 million, so why would we sell Murphy for £4 million?
And he doesn't want to go anyway (not that it is his choice, mind).

The fees on offer are not enough to cover the cost of replacing him. So thank you very much Mr Banker, but No Deal.

When you score 27 goals in a season then you are bound to be linked with clubs and I'm sure offers will come in. I still think this will boil down to the ambition of a ITFC in the summer transfer window. With Murphy already speaking publicly about mick needing backing and the team needing quality, then our transfer strategy will probably dictate his future. If we invest, strengthen a very small squad he may well stay. If we don't, then the prospect of playing PL football may be too big a draw considering he may not get too many other opportunities. Interesting times.

The Daily Star on Sunday- Hollow drums make the most noise.

All three clubs are mid table clubs who if they signed Murphy would only be confirming their ambition to stay in the premiership. me thinks this is just noise for nothing but noises sake.

If murphy is settled in East amglia then premier league football at nodge might tempt him. We wont sell to them anyway, so irrelevant

Think there's the potential for a lot of mutual gain here. If Murphy decides he wants one last go at the PL (who could blame him?) and the pay rise that goes with it, we can sell a 32-year old, who's only scored over 15 goals in a season once in his career for a significant fee (£5m+). The amount of interest should drive up the price. Plus, the signing of Sears shows that good players can be found for a reasonable price. But if at the end of the day Murphy stays no one will be complaining. A win-win situation really.

Going nowhere. He adores suffolk life and is loved by the club and fans. He tried it once at Celtic and look what happened. He will see his career out here. End of.

None of these teams were interested in him for the last several years he has been with us. He scored 27 goals this season and now they are all coming out of the woodwork.

Hands off! He's going nowhere.

I hope.

Swap with Chris Wood and £5m? Wood is out the door and he was not fit for most of stay with us - ironically he started to look better when he was recalled
I think we would need a cash plus player for this to work

Norwich? Really? Right there, thats why I dont read the star. Even the dumb birds know enough to not even entertain the idea. Dumbasses. That is lazy Journalism right there. Pick 3 lower prem teams link them with the championships top scorer and we have a story. Laughable

Sorry, but the 'Daily Star Sunday'? Is this actually worth paying ANY attention to, given the appaling quality of that newspaper? Agree with Blueandtruesince1982, above.

No truth in this!

Imagine he went to Norwich. Logistically he wouldn't have to move with it only been an hour away. Now I don't think he would be that unloyal but that's the scariest and probably most likely move if they were willing to meet the fee.

Im not beyond letting him go if the price was right 5m + and he deserves a shot at premier league giving his age he'd be mad not to want to. Always believed he that ability of last season. Just needed a run of games actually up front to prove it

Well we can all rule out scum. Hardly a progression for Murphy to consider a yo yo club is it. At least if there's this amount of interest in him, we are more likely to get a good price for him, if a move is going to happen, which i dont think it will.

The interest in our players us an indication of how far Town has progressed under MM/TC is such a short time.

10k a week at ITFC or £1m signing on fee + 25k a week in the PL?

I think that's SSN being sloppy reporting a rather unlikely article as elsewhere it is Norwich ( http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/Hull-City-transfer-talk-N-Doye-wages-block/story- and I trust Phil to get this right above SSN. I also think this is highly unlikely but isn't it nice to see the club turning down decent Prem offers instead of having to ship big signings out to lower leagues or pay them off?

We need a Murphy firing on all cylinders. If it's not Daryl it needs to be someone equivalent. It's no good thinking that Freddie S will fill the gap; half of Murph's goals last season could not have been scored by Freddie. While acknowledging that Murph will never get 25 goals a season again he must still be good for 15 a season and we should do all we can to keep him.

Anyone thinking we should sell does not have the ITFC's interests at heart.

Blue041273 I think none of us WANT him to go but as in any job - If you are offered more money and a chance to do a job at a higher level - and it could be your last move - then you would be very very tempted - I hope not but it is his call
