Mings £8m Exit and Fraser Loan Confirmed Friday, 26th Jun 2015 16:03
Town and AFC Bournemouth have confirmed that Blues left-back Tyrone Mings has joined the Cherries in a deal worth an initial £8 million - potentially rising to £10 million - with winger Ryan Fraser moving in the opposite direction on a season-long loan. Mings, 22, has signed a four-year contract at Dean Court.
TWTD understands that in addition to the initial £8 million - the majority of which will be paid up front and the rest in instalments - the overall fee could ultimately increase to £10 million once top-up clauses - likely to relate to appearances and future international recognition - are triggered. The deal also includes a sell-on.
Mings told Bournemouth's Cherries Player that working with manager Eddie Howe and his assistant Jason Tindall will help him to progress as a player: “I’m looking forward to learning from the manager’s ideas.
“They will be different to what I’m used to but that can only be a good thing. I’m here to develop and learn as much as possible."
He added: “The team’s style was different to anyone else’s in the league. That probably goes back to how in-depth the manager is with everything he does and the group of players he has.
“They can pull off what he wants them to do — they are well organised and play good football as everyone saw last season.
“The manager has spoken to me about it and it may be a culture shock to what I was used to.
“It wasn’t as easy on the eye I guess, but I worked over 46 games and got Ipswich into the play-offs.
“To learn off Eddie and Jason though is something I’m really looking forward to.”
Want to start by saying a massive thankyou to all at @Official_ITFC - the management, fans, players and staff for all they've done for me 💙– Tyrone Mings (@OfficialTM_3) June 26, 2015
Very hard decision to make because the management and club have given me the opportunity and support from non league #itfc– Tyrone Mings (@OfficialTM_3) June 26, 2015
A dream come true to reach the premiership, so excited to get started with @afcbournemouth and over the moon to have joined them.– Tyrone Mings (@OfficialTM_3) June 26, 2015
I hope @Official_ITFC get the promotion that everyone associated with the club deserves, under a great, great manager 😢💙 #itfc– Tyrone Mings (@OfficialTM_3) June 26, 2015
Howe believes he is buying someone with a big future: “We are signing a player of huge potential.
“We believe he has everything required to be a success in the Premier League.
“He’s a good age as well and I think there’s a lot of scope for him to improve.
“He’s been linked with Premier League clubs for a long time now and is very highly regarded for his performances for Ipswich. Albeit for a short period of time, he has shown great promise.
“He fits the mould we are looking for — young, progressive, ambitious and wants to improve.
“Hopefully it will be a successful period for us coming up and he can be a big part of that.”
Bournemouth made their bid for the Blues’ £10,000 December 2012 signing from non-league Chippenham on Wednesday with Mings making the trip down to the south coast for talks later that evening before undergoing a medical and agreeing terms yesterday.
In total, Mings, who was watched regularly by scouts from most Premier League clubs, including the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea last season, made 49 starts and 15 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring once.
Earlier in the summer, Town manager Mick McCarthy and owner Marcus Evans both said that they were determined to keep hold of the Blues' key players this summer, however, with the Blues' spending power again limited by the Championship’s Financial Fair Play rules, selling a player for a big fee will give McCarthy far greater scope as he looks to strengthen ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.
Fraser, who has represented Scotland at U19 and U21 levels, started his career with hometown club Aberdeen before joining the Cherries in a £400,000 deal in January 2013.
Last season the 5ft 4in tall midfielder - who is right-footed but has tended to operate more often on the left - made 11 starts and 16 sub appearances and scored two goals as Bournemouth won the Championship title.
He is currently contracted until the end of June 2016 but the Cherries are expected to offer him new terms in the near future. Given his age, even if he doesn’t sign that deal and joins another club on a permanent basis next summer, compensation would be due to Bournemouth.
As with all season-long loans there is no recall provision, however, Town would have the option to end the loan early in January if they wish to do so.
The Blues are also expected to complete the signing of Cherries striker Brett Pitman in a separate deal this afternoon, while Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles is set to join up with the club for the start of pre-season training on Monday with the paperwork relating to his season-loan loan all but done.

That's the end of that one then. All the best Mingsy. Hope to see you smash up Nathan Redmond next season! Welcome aboard Ryan. A flying creative winger is what we've been severely lacking for a number of years so can't wait to see him in action. Nice to know Pitman will be joining and the young Arsenal lad sounds an exciting prospect too. Massive well done to Mick and Marcus for negotiating a fantastic deal for our club!
great bit of buiseness that. am sure fraser will be a great addition. remember watching him play against us at there place two years ago and he had a great game.
Also means that we will now have a bit of spending money.
Best of luck ty, you have been a great servant to the club
Looking at the stats, we've got a VERY good deal here! £8m (potentially £10m) for a young player somewhat unproven in the Championship, but with potential.
The stats show that Cresswell was more confident going forward and sharing the defensive duties with the ML at the time he was with us. Tyrone had chances to do the same and when he did so looked threatening but these runs were rare while his first touch lacked consistency.
Jonny Parr looked plenty capable of filling his boots, and while he doesn't pose as big of an attacking threat, defensively he is sound.
These funds however need to be reinvested into the squad, I'd suggest some quality on the flanks and a cheeky bid for a certain Mr Williams.
Mings fans, don't worry this will not be a huge loss - but a great gain!
I will admit I've not always been his biggest fan, but I'd like to wish Mings good luck at Bournemouth. Hope he fulfills the potential he appears to have. Great deal all round. Well done town
You are comparing 2 players with different levels of experience, plus you missed off age, height and headers won from your stats.... Mings is a rare player in the fact he's very tall, fast and good technique. Jose Mourinho has made no secret he's always wanted an all 6ft+ defence, but a modern full back needs to be quick and good going forward - and there are many 6ft+ full backs who fit that description! Although Mings has gone for a very good fee for us, if he's a success for Bournemouth expect Chelsea to buy him next summer for £25m!!!
One of the best bits of business I've known, bought for 10k and sold for 8 mil I don't mind that! Two exciting players heading into our direction too, all the best to Mings, just felt he wasn't as focused second part of the season and therefore a move was a certainty.
Yeah I just saw that mings had a little dig at the style of play we played last season but then like he said we got into the play offs and most of us were all critical of our style of play at times last season
Really like the look of Ainsley Maitland-Niles too, seen playing more central here but confident on the ball, happy to take it of the defensive and act as a deep lying playmaker.
It's an option we don't already have and one that could work well depending on how MM uses him!
Green Army.... Mings defensive errors 1 ????? i think that stat is massively wrong.... i think if you ask most Town fans they saw a lot more than that.... Good luck Tyronne, a superb deal for ITFC 10k and 40 odd games later 10m has to be good business..... hope MM gets some to spend and we can improve the areas of the team that we need to, RB Attacking midfielder, wingers, striker (we may have done some of that already within this deal)
Bournemouth are sure 'easy on the eye' Tyrone, but good luck keeping out those world class strikers, without Mr Howe using any defensive tactics! AKA NARIDGE
Please don't get too excited about the money, after recent sales Mick has only been given wages to pay out not fees, I expect nothing different this time loans or freebies on a decent wage. However frustrating but in MM we trust.
Half a good season, not worth 8 million and easily replaceable. Cracking deal. I also think he will turn out to be a flop and not live up to his potential. Not half the player cresswell was when we had him
Green Army - Cresswell was 24 when we sold him, and by experience I meant Cresswell had played 200 games for us and Tranmere, Mings has played 57.
And I think height does make a difference - when we played Bournemouth last season I knew they'd outplay us but still felt we could get a result as we were much bigger than them and could bully them at times.
Didnt want to see players from playing squad leave except perhaps Tabb to be honest, however £8 mil for Mings is good, he dosnt always seem to be commited, sometimes seems a bit dis interested. He has potential but will he use or abuse it ?.Anyway he's gone .
Mings is possibly being honest enough to say our playing style isn't that easy on the eye, but he can only be honest enough to say it now he's gone. He in fact was a prime candidate for this more direct style of play!!! He enjoyed a aimless punt down the line, more in hope that something might come of it. Good luck adjusting to their style of play.
