Milne: Mings Cash Will Be Reinvested in Team
Monday, 29th Jun 2015 14:09

Town MD Ian Milne has confirmed that the cash received from the sale of left-back Tyrone Mings to AFC Bournemouth last week will be reinvested into Mick McCarthy’s first-team squad.

The 22-year-old was sold for an initially £8 million - the majority paid up front and the rest in instalments - with the overall fee potentially rising to £10 million once top-up clauses - likely to relate to appearances and future international recognition - are triggered. The deal also included a sell-on.

“We received a substantial amount of money for Tyrone and having spoken to [owner] Marcus [Evans] we both realise that it’s important we reinvest that money back into the team,” the Blues MD told the club site.

“It’s a shame to see Tyrone leave but it was a fantastic offer put to us by Bournemouth, especially with Ryan Fraser and Brett Pitman joining us as well, and it’s a great opportunity for Tyrone himself.

“Tyrone goes with our best wishes and I’m sure he will do well in the Premier League. Hopefully next season we can join him there.

“To do that we realise we need to give Mick as much backing and support as we can and that is why we will continue to invest in the first-team squad and the Mings sale will substantially help in building that investment.”

Meanwhile, the traditional first day of pre-season photo call and press conference with manager McCarthy will now take place on Tuesday morning, not this morning as initially planned.

While a number of players were in for testing this morning, the full squad won't be back to begin their 2015/16 preparations until tomorrow.

Arsenal youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles, whose signing on a season-long loan is close to being formalised, will be amongst those at Playford Road, but Daryl Murphy, David McGoldrick, Christophe Berra and Kevin Bru have been given extra time off having been away on international duty.

Positive words indeed. Now that's what we all want to hear.

Great news, despite other clubs now knowing we sit on a particular amount of cash which won't make negotiations easy.

I hope that the masses don't misquote this article in a couple of months that we haven't spent £8million on players.. We will spend a little, but not a lot, certainly nothing like the £8million we received for Ty

"we need to give Mick as much backing and support as we can and that is why we will continue to invest in the first-team squad and the Mings sale will substantially help in building that investment.”

Fantastic news.

I would guess we will still go for players out of contract and cheaper than others but it will mean we can offer better wages than some of the teams.

Exactly what everyone wants to hear. I sincerely hope this means not only frees and loans (to which there are some good ones), but also fees for the right players. A goal scoring midfield player will cost money.

The ex Bournemouth arrivals appear to provide new strengths for this season, but a classy midfielder with the ability of creativity and a passion for commitment would be my number one choice for reinvestment.

If we have some change at the end buy another 19 year old non- league left back!

We all know that means on wages and agent fees. I Don't think anyone should think any different. We desperately need a proper right back, another left back and a midfield destroyer.

Agreed positive words and needed to hear but looking in the lower leagues is prob best way worked for bornemouth so why not us my first target would be Nathan Byrne Swindon could get him at RB for less than a million, just have to look at the mess going on with woods and Austin look the other direction MM.

16 free transfers on £10k a week would be around £8m.....

Earlsgreenblue, how many wingers do you think we need? We now have Fraser, Ainsley Gooner, Tabb, Henshall, Stewart and Connolly.

This is exactly what we wanted to hear, but it does not and will not mean we will be signing players for seven-figure fees all summer. Clubs in the know may try to extort us for the Mings money, and there is absolutely no point in spending money if you don't have to.

We are a club on the rise, with a well-known, experienced and respected manager at the helm, who probabl;y offer competitve wages and who finished closer than expected to getting promotion last season. We should be an attractive propostion for many players.

I can expect to see two or three fees paid perhaps, on young lower league players or more proven players at this level, perhaps from abroad. I can see further reinvestment on the wages of bosman and loan signings, including tying players to longer/improved deals.

Look at Pitman for example. Cost nothing, although i suspect wages won't be cheap. I would find it hard to believe that other clubs would not have been interested in signing him, but the deal went from speculation to confirmed in a couple of days. No haggling. No uncertainty. No last minute U-turns. This is becuase with the management at the club, and our rising statute, players do not need much convincing to sign.

If/when we do go up, this Milne chap is one of the unsung heroes. COYB.

Berra, Free, Chambers, Free, McGoldrick, Free, Fraser, Free, Murphy, Free, Pitman, Free, Parr Free, Bru, Free, Bishop, Free, Hyam, Free, Scuse, Free, Sears, 100k?,

WHAT & WHY are people worrying about players on mega bucks, who couldnt give a shyte about our Club or wear ITFC on their sleeve, or fit in with the rest of the squad??

Trust Mick McCarthy, and sit back and watch him weave his magic, as he has done since day one at this club. We really dont need to spend mega bucks on players to complete this squad. The market has changed considersbly over recent seasons, players...very good players, often run their contracts down to secure good deals, and in MM / TC we have the perfect managerial team to get these players to come to Ipswich.

Buying in big name, expensive, mega bucks pkayebrs will actually disruptbthe very fabric of b this squad that we have become to relate be so afilliated with.

I would, for nostalgic reasons, like to see us sign a Dutch player for one of the positions we need to strengthen - mid field maybe,

I think that I'll be in the minority but I think that we need a composed centre half who can pass the ball out of defence. Tackle, bring the ball out of defence and set attacks off from the back.

That's very good news!! I still think that there has been 1 or 2 quality players released by other clubs worth taking a look at! If he's still available then Jamie Ward the ex Derby player would defiantly be worth a punt, 29 very experienced at this level, pacy, got a goal in his locker to & left sided. I would luv to see a very creative player come into the ranks someone like Pritchard who was on loan at Brentford last season & a proper quality RB to allow chambo into the centre were he belongs. It's looking good again for next season! Very excited already!! COYB!!!

Sounds promising, but we have been told this before and have been let down slightly. For me actions speak louder than words and il believe it, when I see it.

Lets hope this is fact and we get in an experienced left back an experienced right back also cover for Berra and chambers at centre back, Smith will cover left side we need a right side central defender ,spend the big money on a match winning creative central midfield that will weigh in with a least 10 goals, it looks like we will be covered for wingers and holding midfielders, if we keep Murph we should have forwards capable of taking us closer this year, if Murph goes then we will need to replace, I posted earlier that we needed quality not just grafters it look as though we may get that this season and lets hope they will play for this club and help us to get to where we should be. ArnieM - just to clarify what I mean. Yes, there are decent frees out there and I am not for one minute suggesting we can afford a number of multi million pound deals. BUT if a player in the lower leagues or even Championship becomes available and is going to cost say £500K, I would be disappointed if we ruled ourselves our. Look at Sears and what a very modest fee can buy you. The type of midfield player we are missing I.e. One which scores goals, is unlikely to be procured on a free. We should be looking to spend if the right player becomes available.

It is also worth noting that 13 players have departed (loans, sold and released), since the end of last season, so there is also that money to reinvest. Taylor's wages could be reinvested for example!

Let's go out and get the best young players from leagues 1 and 2 then.

Please no more injury prone journeymen on loan.
