Hyam Undergoes Surgery
Saturday, 11th Jul 2015 08:29

Midfielder Luke Hyam is facing up to another four months on the sidelines having undergone surgery on the knee injury which has kept him out of action since January.

“Sadly we’ve lost Luke Hyam to injury,” manager Mick McCarthy told the club site from the squad’s training camp at the Carton House Hotel in Co Kildare in Ireland.

“He’s suffered a setback and could be looking at three and a half to four months out.

“He’s rehabbed twice now and he’s had surgery this morning [Friday]. Hopefully that will get him right but it’s a big loss for us and my heart breaks for him.

“You’d be disappointed for anyone to get an injury like that but for it to happen to such a good, hardworking pro is really sad. He will be a big miss for us and he was really upset when he had to leave the training camp.

“We wish him a speedy recovery and hopefully he can be back sooner rather than later, we want him back fit playing for us.”

The 23-year-old initially suffered the injury in the FA Cup replay against Southampton.

The Blues seem certain to look for another central midfielder given Hyam's continued absence.

Town start their pre-season friendly programme this afternoon with a game against Shelbourne at Tolka Park, Dublin (KO 3pm). Meanwhile, the U21s are in action at Leiston (KO 3pm).

Best of luck Lukey, absolutely devastating news for you, but I hope you come back fighting after a terrible year of injuries.

Gutted for Luke. He obviously worked hard to get ready for pre-season and now he has to start over again. I don't think he's one of our better players in terms of ability but he does the dirty work and gives us some bite in midfield. It's probably no coincidence that our form slipped off the same time he was injured. Hope he's back soon!

Our very own Darren Anderton. I doubt he'll ever make it back to the regular first team now. :(

Sad for Luke,get back soon.

He will be a big miss to the squad and we will need Skuse to keep producing the very good form he has shown since January.

not good enough for a promotion chasing team, no great loss at all.

Devastating for the lad.

Get well soon Luke, you'll get the biggest cheer EVER when you get back out on the pitch.

Agree that he's not good enough to be honest, but it's gutting for the lad, he's in his prime and just wants to get back out there and play again....the problem is, you think you're ready, then in anything remotely competitive you find out that you're not, been there and there is nothing worse, nothing..

The worry is, he may never fully recover..

Good luck to him..

Strikalite - sadly for Luke I had that terrible worry too. Just imagine how he feels at the moment.

I sincerely hope the surgeon gives him positive news following the surgery. I'm sure Luke will be happy to play at any level just as soon as he can. Let's hope he's still fit enough to play for us.

While I'm gutted for Luke personally, I'm not so worried that he won't be playing for a while. Frankly the only time I'd want him in the team is if Skuse was injured. He's a good alternative for him but playing in the same team, which I could see mm doing again. Not for me.

Sad to read but it means a spot on the bench for someone else

Tr11BLU. An unnecessary comment don't you think? Everyone's got their own opinion about Hyam. No need to be offensive. If you believe Hyam is the player we need to get us promoted then good luck to you. Frankly I and many others don't think he's anywhere good enough. Will never criticise his work rate or his commitment but he can't pass, is too negative, always passing backwards even when a forward pass is available. If he's in the team, I will always support him as I would anyone who wears the blue shirt but wouldn't have him in the team unless as a replacement for Skuse, if he injured

Unbelievable reaction to, what is, a big set back for a young local lad trying to come back
If Mick and others involved in the game think he is good enough then I think they know abit more than some of the FIFA watching armchair wotsit eaters on here
Wishing him a speedy recovery

Gutted for the lad, sounds like he works really hard, cant fault his commitment to the club and his effort, but i just dont feel that he is good enough to be our main CM to get us promoted, he is too negative and dosent make the key passes we need.

I do not think that many are saying he should be in our starting team BUT he is a valuable squad member as the only obvious backup to Skuse.

I hope he eventually gets himself fully fit and back in the squad.

I like many before have questioned if Luke is good enough to help us progress but for sure he is Blue through and through and wears his heart on his sleeve.
We did miss him when he was injured last season so I hope he can recover and get his form
Back.
Unfortunately it is not just about missing game time it is also about missing development time at a crucial point in his career

Best of luck Luke, Town will I am sure look after you just as they are doing with Reg.

Sadly he is finished. Joey Barton is available on a freebie !

Pip50 - he's 23 mate, think he's still got a bit of life in him..! And i'll assume the Joey Barton remark was some kind of sick joke...

For those of you who have been less than charitable to Luke, you're right, he's not the next Andres Iniesta, but he's a valuable squad player and can really do a job as the midfield ball winner. Great engine, not bad in the air and I would argue the best tackler i've seen at Portman Road for ages...

Just read on Ipswich Star that Town are ready to table a 7 figure bid on a midfielder. Good development, although I still maintain McGoldrick's the solution to the midfield issue and a starting right back is priority number 1, but hey, Mick seems to know what he's doing...

What do people think of getting Paul Anderson back and remoulding him as a full back..?

Wish him a speedy recovery and hope he has a good career.

However, I wouldn't have him in my lineup either.

I thought the best footy Hyam played for us was alongside Drury when Jewell stumbled across 4-2-3-1.
