Douglas Agrees Terms - Report
Monday, 3rd Aug 2015 17:37

Brentford midfielder Jonathan Douglas is reported to have agreed a one-year contract with the Blues plus an option for a further season. The 33-year-old is out of favour at Griffin Park and is set to join Town on a free transfer.

According to Sky Sports personal terms have been agreed with the Irishman having been due at Portman Road for a medical and talks earlier this afternoon.

Monaghan-born Douglas, whose partner is Sky Sports News presenter Natalie Sawyer, moved to England in 2000 when he joined Blackburn Rovers. While at Ewood Park he spent time on loan at Chesterfield, Blackpool and Gillingham before moving on to Leeds in 2005.

After four years at Elland Road, the 6ft tall holding midfielder moved to Swindon before he joined Brentford in 2011.

Douglas, who has been capped eight times by the Republic of Ireland, signed a new contract with the Bees in February but is not in new manager Marinus Dijkhuizen's plans and last month he was told he could move on.

"He is not part of the squad and is training separately. There is no future for him," Dijkhuizen told BBC London.

"We decided it is better for him to move on - for his future and for the future of Brentford."

Last season Douglas made 46 starts and scored eight goals as the Bees finished fifth in the Championship, one place above Town.

Last week, the Blues missed out on signing another Brentford player, Northern Irish winger Stuart Dallas, who is set to join Leeds United in a £1.25 million deal.

Likes to score a few from midfield and on a free...so worth a punt, and as said quite a good engine for a 33 year old! Welcome Jonathan!

Will Brentford have any players left when we play them on Saturday? :)

No excuse for a pedestrian midfield this season now!

Douglas, Skuse, Toure, Bru, Hyam, Tabb, Coke and Bishop in the middle to fight it out. Then Henshall, Connolly, Maitland-Niles and Fraser for the wings.

More midfielders than we can shake a stick at! 4 quality strikers in Murphy, Sears, McGoldrick and Pitman. Just need a full back or two to complement Chambers, Parr and Knudsen and we'll be sorted! Can't wait for the season. Deep squad with bags of experience to hopefully last the pace right through to next May. COYB!

Great signing. Brentford must have Financial difficulties. Goalscoring midfielder is what we needed. Hope we keep Ambrose too.

Will be delighted if he signs as I was really impressed with him when I saw him last season. A box to box midfielder is one thing we are missing. Hope this happens

I hope he's also agreed to shave off that hideous beard!

I think this is a great signing. Somebody already said; he knows where the net is too apart from being a good box-to-box midfielder.

It says reported, but has it been confirmed that he has signed? or maybe i have missed something with a senior moment?

I think this guy may have something to prove and if he does it with us that is fine.

I think this is a very shrewd move by MM and 8 goals last year means he knows where the old onion bag is.

Yes and all the Natalie Sawyer comments are so relevant---I remember when Mick Milss was seeing Susan George and I bumped in to her coming out of the centre spot ---I forget the result!!

Now all we need to do is prise Tom Heaton away from Burnley and that is our main promotion rivals nutted. QPR? Middlesborough? I'm hoping that their financial profligacy and our natural stinginess will sort that out.
