Town to Keep Bidding for McGhee
Monday, 3rd Aug 2015 23:48

Town are reported to have had two bids turned down for Hearts defender Jordan McGhee and are expected to return with a third. The 19-year-old was previously mentioned in connection with the Blues last week.

Now, according to widespread reports in Scotland, Town have had two offers for the East Kilbride-born centre-half or right-back rejected but are said to be ready to return with a further bid.

According to some reports, Town's second and most recent bit was £250,000 with Hearts said to be after at least £500,000 for the highly-rated youngster.

McGhee came through the ranks at Tynecastle and has won Scotland caps with the U15s, U16s, U18s and U21s, who he captains.

Having broken into the Hearts first team late in 2012/13, McGhee has gone on to make 33 starts and 11 sub appearances, scoring four goals.

McGhee has already attracted interest from Premier League clubs, with Aston Villa and Swansea City recently linked, and in 2013 Juventus were reported to be keeping tabs on him. In January he signed a new Hearts contract which runs until the summer of 2017.

Great news, another centre half.

If they want over 500k, what is the problem we sold a full back for 8 million, get the job done

flimflam added 10:08 - Aug 4
Hahaha, they think a 19 year old who is fourth choice centre back and yet to fully establish himself is is worth 1 million hahahaha.

But they do rate him and predict a bright future in the game so I would wave 400k under their noses and see what happen.

Chambers, Smith, Berra, Yorwerth, Mcghee. Can MM count?

Surely we can give them the £500k rather than risk losing out..thought we were reinvesting the Mings cash in the team?

Don't wish to see us chucking money about needlessly like we did when Marcus first arrived but if it's for very promising youngsters with already a fair bit of experience behind them then we need to stop penny-pinching.

Go get him!

Come on Marcus that £8m has got to be burning a hole in your pocket, lets get him

Getting nice blend of youth and experience. It would be good if we got a run in the Cup (rather than being knocked out in round one) so that fringe players get more games and give MM chance to see full squad in competitive matches.

If he is highly rated then surely 250k is a very meager sum to offer...trying our luck I fancy, fancy we will have to double that figure at least.

Why are we messing around? Okay we have to be sensible and spend money carefully, but it's not as though Hearts want millions. £500 k for a very promising youngster, wanted by PL teams, is not unreasonable. Just get him in. If we fail to land a main MM target over a couple of hundred thousand, it just about sums MEs transfer policy up.

He is well worth it! Place the bid they want, get it done in time for brentford.

Unless this is for the future as a Centre Half i dont see the point in this. We already have a centre half who plays right back and gets tore apart in that role.
Why cant we just sign a proper right back and move Chambers inside alongside Berra? I gaurantee if we sign this kid he will just sit on the bench all season as back up to Chambers. And all because Mick doesnt want to drop Tommy.

Looks like a very good player if we get him and a RB as well :)

Hearts Rejected 2 bids £250k

We need to Bid £750k/£1.5ml if we have any chance of getting him (Evans get your check out)

He is wanted by Villa Swansea Celtic Juventus Ipswich so far.

Lets hope we can get him

Looks more a CB than a RB and it's a specialist RB that we need.
We already have Clarke out on loan, and Yorwerth in the squad.
He looks like a prospect though. More signs that not a lot is going to be spent on fees, even if it does rise to 4-500K.

Agree with Soho Blue, Muccletonjoe,Lightningboy,Timmy H,JAS,Meehal ITFC<Battyblue,GTRKing,Tractor Roy,yes and SAM WHITE not forgetting Uncle Tom Cobbly!!!
£250 derisory offer if we are in competition and Mick feels he will make a good right back.Either we want him or not.Suppose its like pricing a job high that you don't want and getting it(Pricing low and getting a bargain or like as not losing out).
Still mustn't grumble as done well up to now, although ball not kicked in anger yet so mustn't get too carried away.

MM has got a lot of players for free so let's pay the 500k

Leeds are in the running for him now too.

Are they just watching out for who we put bids in for and then gunning for the player after?

Seasider added 20:29 - Aug 5
Whoops £250 is certainly a derisory offer which even I could afford meant £250k
