Town Close to Signing Polish Defender
Monday, 24th Aug 2015 11:09

Town will complete the signing of Korona Kielce defender Piotr Malarczyk before the transfer window closes next week, according to reports in Poland.

The 24-year-old is understood to have a clause in the one-year contract he signed as recently as June which means he can move for 50,000 Polish Zloty, just over £8,500, although he is actually claimed to be worth around £350,000.

Malarczyk, who was previously interesting another Polish side, Jagiellonia Białystok, has been with his hometown club, who play in the Polish top flight, throughout his career.

He made his senior debut in 2009 and has now made 131 appearances, scoring eight goals and is their current skipper. He has been capped by Poland at U19, U20 and U21 levels.

Speaking in an interview with Polish website 24x45.info last week, Blues keeper Bartosz Bialkowski revealed that the Town management had asked him about Malarczyk, who he described as a "strong, determined and ambitious defender".

Bialkowski also spoke about his father, who sadly died over the weekend having been ill for some time. The keeper flew back to Poland ahead of Saturday's game at Preston.

Malarczyk plays either as a centre-half or a right-back with manager Mick McCarthy revealing that he was targeting a player in that mould earlier in the month.

The Blues made multiple offers for Hearts youngster Jordan McGhee but it seems have now moved on to another target.

I know a nice little two-up-two-down on Norwich Road. He'll feel right at home, there's a shop just up the road that does the most fantastic tinned goulasz!

It's almost comical how Mick finds these lads. I mean I could buy these players with my own money. Yet, the odds are they will turn into stars.

He looks a big old boy and a tough nut and a solid squad player. However, not convinced on this potential signing as the defensive solution, as i said yesterday this season is the best chance / squad town have had for quite some time and everything should be thrown at it to get promoted. Why not chase players who can play at a canter in the championship and be tested in the premier league. Is all well and good paying 10k when you are not sure where you are at with the squad inherited, like when Mick started, but now there is a brilliant squad with a chance to be title contenders and more ambition should be shown in the transfers not on a 50/50 gamble...

I think he will DEFINITELY be more Bru than Bajner. Think about it - Bru had been playing regularly for a side who was top dog in their respective division; Malarczyk's club aren't as much of a heavy hitter, but Poland's still a football nation, so if he's a regular in their top flight he must have something about him. Bajner was playing reserve football, fer chrissakes...

I dunno, whatever happens this season I'm so proud of my club. Humble and honest. Success should never be an ends in itself, it should be a positive side effect of doing the right thing...

It would be nice if we rounded it up to 100,000 Polish Zloty and threw in some ITFC mugs, duvets, etc.

I imagine the Portman Road attendances might increase with all the Polish turning up to see one of their own if this proves to be true!

@BlueMachines - We should sign a Lithuanian. Ipswich is over-flowing with them! Ticket sales would go through the roof!

Am I alone in thinking Emmanuel could fill the RB position, age does not come into it if you are good enough and I personally think he is.

@stevelincsexile Signs are promising for Emmanuel, however we do need another right sided defender to take the pressure off him. He could do a job but he is young and will need careful management to ensure that he doesnt burn out and that he develops at the right pace. Similar to AMN, MM sees him as a key player at the moment but he wont play every game.

This signing probably cost less than it costs Marcus to helicopter to home matches!

Apparently what swayed him was not only our fantastic training facilities but the huge number of Poles already in the town

Yes condolences to Bart. Can't have been easy playing knowing how things were back in Poland. Credit to him.
