Town Recall Hyam From Rotherham
Tuesday, 22nd Dec 2015 11:34

Town have recalled midfielder Luke Hyam from his loan at Rotherham, the Millers have revealed.

The 24-year-old joined Rotherham towards the end of November in order to continue his comeback after almost 11 months out with a knee injury.

Town manager Mick McCarthy included a recall clause in the deal which allowed them to bring Hyam back to Portman Road at 24 hours' notice after the first 28 days of the loan, which was due to run to January 23rd.

The former Blues academy player made two starts and three sub appearances while at the New York City Stadium, netting an unfortunate own goal in the 1-0 defeat to Blackburn.

Rotherham boss Neil Redfearn told the Millers' official site: “Mick has injuries and it is coming into a time when he needs his players back.

“There is a recall clause available to Ipswich so we have to respect their option to bring Luke back.

“I would like to thank Mick McCarthy and Ipswich Town for allowing us to take Luke here. I would also like to thank Luke for his service to us, he did a great job for the club during the time he was here.

“I thought he was outstanding in the [2-0] victory over Hull City last Saturday and we wish him all the best for the future.”

Hyam's last Town game was the FA Cup replay at home to Southampton in January in which he suffered the knee injury which eventually required surgery in the summer.

He will go straight into the squad for Boxing Day's game against QPR at Portman Road.

Hyam only got a game with the Millers when they played 4-5-1 (like last Saturday), playing with Smallwood as a defensive paring in front of the back 4. If they get their main striker back (Leon Best) for the Xmas games, they'll revert to a preferred 4-4-2 which would have meant Hyam missing out anyway.

He will allow the creative players to be creative , fact is he breaks up play and allows us to attack on the counter quicker ,douglas does not have the same impact but we may now go 433 more often.

Not sure that AMN offers much at present. Very light weight and gives the ball away in dangerous areas. Hyam for AMN?
