Alabi Leaves By Mutual Consent
Thursday, 28th Jan 2016 15:23

Striker James Alabi has left the Blues after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The 21-year-old joined Town as a member of Mark Kennedy’s development squad having been released by Stoke in the summer, signing a one-year deal with an option for a second season.

His only first-team appearance was as a sub in the Capital One Cup tie at Doncaster in August in which he scored, giving him the unique Town records of netting a senior goal for the club without playing a game at Portman Road and making just one appearance and scoring in that game.

Before Christmas Alabi spent time on loan with Grimsby (pictured) in the Vanarama National League, making two starts and three sub appearances, scoring two FA Trophy goals.

Seasider - I'd be more surprised if Elliot Hewitt WAS here after the summer!

seasider. and how do digby. malarcyk and foley come into the equation? digby and foley only just signed so how you can put them in the list of players not given a chance. then youve also got tabb in there. who was a regular for the past 2 seasons. ridiculous comment as are others on here. karls dad, things atrnt good at portman rd? no, of course not. were 8th in table, 1 point off the playoffs, with a great team spirit, important players on long term contracts, but then 2 players go and its awful. while oar was a little disappointing, it has to be said(but if he not up to fight for his place, so be it), to lose a player who was never gonna get near the 1st team is of no consequence whatsoever. like others i certainly hope this means we will strengthen before the window closes,or in loan window, as we def need a couple of players. just ned to hope that mm stops being stubborn and accepts that too

Re OAR , sounds like alot of money washing around Chinese Football at the moment so cant say I blame him - very marketable
As for Alabi - never made bench so why keep him

I expect the doors will be revolving in next few days and MM unveiling a few exciting faces - Attacking midfielders and strikers ........
You never know !

makes me wonder what MM saw in him! I feel sorry for him as his move to Town didn't help him or us so surely we need to find better prospects that have good chance of making 1st team. Its a waste of money and time and judging fromnumber that have made it I'm guessing that more will be going

thats why we never get excited by all these players who have been released by lesser clubs than us .... dont we do any scouting any more or is it all about cast offs from other clubs yawn yawn yawn!!
how come peterborough for example consistently bring through quality strikers who are then sold on for profit etc they must have a good scout there

lets be honest most fans can look at a player after a couple of games and tell wether hes any good or not without mentioning names on here but yet we continually do the same old same old what do they look for in a player someone who can run like a whippet but cannot hold or look up and play a striker in wheres all the flair gone or is it coached out of players theses days
one look at the england manager tells you everything really!!

We haven't had a decent scout since Ron Gray
and he was largely responsible for all those familiar town greats in Bobby Robson's era
who were discovered up north

Reading between the lines, mass clear out to free up a bit of wages on a signing before deadline day and to appease the fans. Whether the signing is good enough to upset the 1st 11 set in stone or pleased to play in the U21's or just sit on the bench remains to be seen. The signing may even just come to get fit as he may not of played for many months!

Why are people getting worked up about so called recruitment policy. Years ago when we had proper reserve teams people like Alabi would come and go, get a game or two in 'the stiffs' and either stay or go. If they went most people would be none the wiser unless they watched reserve games or read The Green 'Un.
With no social media or forums like this to report every insignificant move no one knew anything about these trial it's. Now people living in USA or Australia etc know everyone that is being trial led and the general opinion is that our recruitment policy sucks. These trial signings probably cost very little in wages during their short stay and who knows, perhaps another Tyrone Mings might just be unearthed.
The real problem at PR is the abysmal transfer policy where our super ego manager thinks he can reach the PL for free.

As Phil said he was signed for the development squad obviously didn't develop so moved on no drama in that unless you want to make drama out of it.

Another awful signing by an awful manager who doesn't know a good player judging by the rubbish he has brought to this club
McCarthy OUT and take Evans with you

i guess 15 yrs in the championship tends to make people a tad pi.sed orf
think we are all coming on here hoping for news of a transfer that will inspire our push into the prem ...i can still remember the buzz felt when we signed marcus stewart and how we dream of a similar signing but we all know in our hearts that it will not happen this week so looks like it will be 16 yrs of frustration :)
lets not be negative though hey
i honestly think that itfc fans are the most patient/loyal in the whole of the 92 put together

Maybe I'm being naive but surely any striker that scores on his debut is worth another appearance at some point? I don't know, I find it a bit strange that he was never seen again. If he's not good enough then fair enough, but I would have expected a few appearances to make that judgement. Perhaps his attitude or personality wasn't what MM was looking for?

Oh yes cats whiskers Ron Gray what a man the diamonds he unearthed are folklore, shame we have nobody of that calibre anymore!!!! back to the present and as last season every side above us are signing decent additions to their squads for the run in but as last season we are doing bugger all and hoping for a fair wind to get us into the playoffs and as a result we are nothing more than hoof ball hopers it's about time we supporters had some straight answers as to what is going on behind the scenes recruitment wise the only straight response we get is from the newly contracted manager who "doesn't give a flying f--k" what we think so this leaves me thinking we are only going downhill.

still so many not realising they need and are able to improve their game. Top players look for improvement even when at top level...

Bizarre. Alabi and Oar leaving. Not making the grade in all reality. Add Coke, Toure, Digby and the Polish fella; as others say our recruitment strategy needs looking at. It's clear our squad isn't as strong in terms of quality as we first thought. Below average players in some cases.

Big week for Evans. With Bishop, McGoldrick and Gerken out for medium to long term; three players leaving which frees up wages plus poor signings so far in terms of Digby and Foley it's crucially important we strengthen prior to the deadline. No quality signings will only go to demonstrate the lack of ambition/interest from our owner. Critical few days now. Critical.

The trouble is scouts go out to watch players, but then find the potential prospect keeps playing passes on the ground.Decision on orders he doesn't hoof the -journey waste of time, might as well go home.Things are just getting worse and worse.

Dissboyitfc added 19:13 - Jan 28
things tend to happen in threes, perhaps three signings to follow!

All teams in all divisions look to improve the match day squad and plenty of us will be disappointed if the window closes without at least one addition who will be challenging for a spot in the starting eleven. Left back looks like a priority to me.

I always knew that it would be difficult to come up with a good Alabi

Another failed cheap signing. Maybe the penny will eventually drop!!

Jonnosdreadlocks added 19:53 - Jan 28
pity. Hes a better striker than Varney, younger and better strike rate and player than Coke yet, would rather of those two leave than Alaibi. MM has those two in the squad more often than not. Most of the fringe squad aint good enough but then there is not much opportunity as MM clearly has his faves. Unless DM and TB get fit soon and we sign some back up defenders I struggle to see us finish in top 6.

Our club motto should be 'once your out on loan you'll soon be out on your own' - Hyam will be the next to leave but in the summer. Have to admit though forgot all about him.

This January keeps on getting better!
