Leicester's Lawrence Linked
Saturday, 30th Jan 2016 16:43

Town are amongst a number of Championship clubs reported to be showing interest in Leicester City forward Tom Lawrence.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Blackburn Rovers but his spell is up on Sunday but is set to be sent out for another loan stint.

And, according to the Daily Mail, Hull City, Burnley, Cardiff City, Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and the Blues have all made enquiries regarding the Wales international.

Lawrence, who spent a month on loan at Rotherham last season around the time he was previously linked with the Blues, has made 15 starts and seven sub appearances, scoring two goals, since joining Blackburn in August.

The Foxes signed Lawrence from Manchester United for a reported £1 million on the final day of the 2014 summer transfer window after they had failed in their attempt to land Town’s David McGoldrick. But he has made just three league starts and one FA Cup sub appearance for the current Premier League leaders, all last season.

Wrexham-born Lawrence, who is contracted to the Foxes until June 2018, spent spells out on loan at Carlisle and Yeovil while a Manchester United player.

Town boss Mick McCarthy, who was spotted at the Madejski Stadium watching Tuesday’s opponents Reading in FA Cup action against Walsall this afternoon, has repeatedly played down the chances of the Blues adding to their squad before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday.

Blackburn getting rid of all their strikers and we go for the one who can hardly score! What sort of replacement for Parr and Timmy Oar is this?

Ffs, how many times does it have to be said? An attacking, creative midfielder is the glaring priority. What's the point of adding yet another forward if they're not going to get decent service? Transfer window about to close. No ambition, no desire to get promoted.

He's more of an attacking midfielder than a forward, Valencia have shown interest and he's represented his country so must be half decent!

Come on Grantham. You surely don't believe all this "linked" nonsense, do you ?.

Let's at least hold of the whinging until he has actually signed, other wise what are we doing......?

Whinging about nothing. I fear far to many daily mail readers use this site and its a real worry, Dave Gorman would have a field day mind you

Although it's essential (in my opinion) that we strengthen prior to the window closing, I'm not convinced this guy will add value. Just two goals this season, worse than our current crop! We need an attack minded goal scoring central midfielder and experienced defensive cover. That said if McGoldrick is out for longer, we could do with cover up front as well. Varney isn't known for his goals!

Bluetrue come on you know they don't know what to do if they haven't got anything to moan about especially as we didn't have a game

What we need is a decent amount of money to spend on players...it's brilliant that we progressed through the FA cup against a lower league team in the 3rd round then beat an under strength Premiership side to be in the hat for the 5th round draw ...that run alone will bring us in £1m .....oh hang on ...someone just told me that didn't happen COYB

On personal level I would not give the Daily Mail houseroom or even give it the pleasure of wiping my rear end on it!! we all have our own opinions on this site and what we think are own thoughts and to be taken as such!! slagging other peoples comments(unless offensive) are just playground behaviour!! so do your worst and mark me down after supporting this club home and away through thick and thin since my 1st game in 1958 I find some responses from later day supporters who haven't a clue about the club and it's history gobsmacking! have a look back at recent history and see from the Sheepshank Burley regime(and apart from Joe Royle who did a great job under dreadful hand's tied finances) we have been in free fall we are now sHowing signs of stability but it won't happen overnight C.O.Y.B.

At a point now where I can repeat posts as theme is just the same

We have better players than previous years, so why don't we trust them. If League 2 Portsmouth can pass us off the pitch (TWICE) against a second string which, let's not deny it, was full of Championship and first team experience, then fans have the right to question the management.

Am not harking back to, or comparing against previous eras. I just cannot make sense of the stubbornness re tactics. You CANNOT get automatic promotion with 30-40% possession week in week out, so what are we aiming for exactly ??

So, having just repeated myself, someone please tell me what is the point of signing this nice young man. It is becoming Catch 22.

If he can play football then why on earth would he come to ITFC, if he cant, then what are we doing trying to sign him. Our style of play is like a virus and it WILL eventually be our undoing.

"You CANNOT get automatic promotion with 30-40% possession week in week out, so what are we aiming for exactly ?? "

Afraid both Stoke and Hull in the past have done it this way - whether it's the way I want us to play is one things and we usually have around 45% so the point of what you have put I'm lost.

Two days left Marcus & Mick. Our strongest squad for years ( yeah righto ) needs strengthening drastically !! We have allowed players to leave in the last week or so weather our choice or theirs and it is plain for anyone without McCarthy tinted glasses on to see that our team and our depleted squad is not good enough. If you are totally honest in comparing our players to our rivals in the top 10 we fall well short !!
If you asked all independent observers to select the best X1 from the championship the only player at ITFC who would have a hope of getting anywhere near it is Ryan Frazer and he's not even ours !!! "We can't get better than we have" ????? Do us a favour Mick and wake up and get real !!!
I fully understand the club has made a financial decision to go down this no fee transfer policy but to wind the fans up by saying we can't improve on what we have is insulting and to make us excited about the possibility of promotion just to let us down by failing to compete with our rivals in the market is unacceptable and ripping us off.

Surprise us all and bring in 3 players that will make a real difference and be in the first X1. I dare you !!! Could just be worth £100m

prebbs007, 3 footballers who prefer to play on the grass rather than in the sky would be my choice. I will never ever be re-educated that football should be played the McCarthy way. Sport should be for entertainment, not punishment.

@Granthamblue62

I think we all want to see Mick sign a creative midfielder/playmaker but in reality such a player doesn't suit McCarthy's style of football. It's not long ball football in its purest form, but we play in a direct way, getting high balls up to the forwards and down the channels for the wide players with minimal build-up play. The centre of midfield is more defensively-orientated in McCarthy's 4-4-2 system. The service is crosses from out wide or long balls from the back. Any creative midfielder is going to spend much of the game watching the ball sail over his head.

I hate our style of play too but I guess it is effective for a team with no money to spend/ a reluctance to spend.

Can't see this happening. His wage demands would be too high and we have Murphy, Sears, Pittman and Varney already. Plus the other clubs linked are able to give more percentage of wages. In a like vain can't see Jerome Thomas signing either. After his 2 trials at Yeovil and Hearts he was offered a contract at Hearts but unfortunately no deal could be agreed upon. Yeovil decided that they weren't interested either. I have no idea how his first game with us went but if you don't play the full 90 minutes it's a sign of 1 of 3 things:

-1- you are brilliant. We will get your paperwork sorted and sign you up immediately
-2- you're fitness is dodgy
-3- hmmm...think we have seen enough,

Expect more players to leave, not join. MM believes he has the right 11 already to take us into the Premiership.

Well done Portsmouth btw for collecting your 250k on the Bournemouth game.

Hope you took note Mccarthy. - How to beat a lower league team and probably us on Tuesday

BrettenhamBlue added 22:20 - Jan 30
Oh and btw Mick. 250k would have easily paid for Tom Lawrence's percentage of salary for the rest of the season PLUS Jerome Thomas' wage until the end of the season, with some change to boot. So, you would have got these players FOR FREE. Please think about this next time you send out the reserves for the 3rd round. If we had got a home draw against Bournemouth (like 2-2), most fans would have been ok with us being beaten in the replay. 420-450 K richer for it.

We care about this cup and have pride that we won it in 1978.
