Blackburn Targeting Feeney Claim
Sunday, 12th Jun 2016 14:27

Blackburn Rovers are reportedly rivalling Town for the signature of former Blues loanee Liam Feeney.

According to The Sun, new Rovers manager Owen Coyle is keen to sign the 29-year-old, who previously had a loan spell at Ewood Park during 2014, and is hoping to agree a deal this week.

Feeney is understood to have already agreed terms with Town and - as things stood - was expected to formally sign once he becomes a free agent after his contract with his current club Bolton is up at the end of the month.

The Londoner, who is believed to be keen on a move back down south, joined Town on loan in March and made seven starts and two sub appearances, scoring once.

Birmingham City were previously reported to be amongst a number of Championship clubs interested in the former Millwall winger.

Meanwhile, another player the Blues have shown interest in this summer, Southend midfielder Jack Payne, is expected to sign for Huddersfield Town.

There is a certain amount of speculation that does the rounds over the close season period but IF we were really interested in this lad from Southend and IF he were to chose a club such as Huddesfield over ITFC, I'd say that ought to be a reality check for where we're at.

^ or if Payne chooses another club over us it could be because of over crowding... We already have Bishop, Bru and dozzell for what is usually only 1 attacking midfielder slots, not to mention McDonnell and Benyu

Here we go linked with x player to see him sign for another club while we sit back and watch others

If he doesn't come here then I'm not too fussed. Probably just his agent wanting more clubs to show an interest.

If he signs great. Decent squad player without being outstanding, but decent nonetheless. Gives us options. If he doesn't sign then no big issue either. The issue of him not signing though would mean we are yet again not being competitive with wages. But on the other side of the argument we shouldn't be paying over the odds for a player who is little more than decent.

Seriously doubt payne is any better than dozzell bishop or mcdonnell and never played in the championship. Maybe we will sign a midfielder but he needs to be of higher calibre imo

If we are in the market for a midfield player I would have thought it would be a much more experienced professional to help the younger talent we already have rather than one that will only get in their way, and quite possibly a defensive midfield player as there are question marks about all four of the DMFs we have at the moment.
As for Feeney, I gather that his best performance last season involving us was in a Bolton shirt - but then I didn't see much of last season's performances.

Sounds about right, Forest Blackburn Fulham and QPR are all very happy to pay bang average players anything upwards of £15,000.

Wake up football, get a grip.

Love the gossip don't we! None of us actually know who we are in for & what is being paid but that doesn't matter we will give an opinion anyway. Mine is Feeney was/is ok but if he doesn't sign I will still sleep well. Investment in creative players is more important & he did look like pace only from what I saw.

I know it would be long shot to sign any of these but Everton have released Leon Osman, Tony Hibbert and Steven Pienaar. Any one of those could be the missing link in our middle? No fee just signing on money and mega wages. Then add Fletcher, who has also been released, up front? I know it would be most likely all our money for summer signings spent but job done?

I can see it being a normal summer for town done our major signing in Webster now it will waiting to see who has been left at the bottom of thr barrel to pick up on the cheap,,,free,,or loan and they think this will sell season tickets I think not.

Not keeping my hopes up this season. Agree with battyblue. I can see our only significant signing being Webster and we'll just "fill in" the rest of the team. If we do sell Bishop or Bialkowski it might actually make us spend some money.

cobboldblue is right. But like Powell they are going to be on their way to Leeds, Derby or Huddersfield. Payne was dead keen on a move to Ipswich; can't think what went wrong. Smith hasn't signed his contract and neither has Foley, hard to know what's going on there.

Ipswich Moan Football Club...Ok, last season was not good (especially the second half), but why the negative spin on every news article (by some)? I went up at 3 o clock in the "morning" to travel from Sweden to watch the dreadful Brentford game, but I still believe that we will do better next season and I support the team (and the manager, as long as the club do). Webster seems a decent signing and more creativity to come! COYB!!

Its close season everyone! Management are on holidays, and probably most of the staff are in France for the Euros.

When management & players are back from holidays they will be able to sign off on contracts and we will see a lot more activity. Im sure Foley, Feeney and Smith will officially all be signed up very soon :)

Please don't pay silly money for him as we are being rivalled. His agent doesn't seem like a pushover. Looked okay last season, but I do feel we can get someone younger and better for a lot cheaper in wages!
