Murphy: Newcastle Link Just Paper Talk Friday, 5th Aug 2016 11:24 Close-season transfer speculation linking Town striker Daryl Murphy with a move elsewhere has been dismissed by the player himself.
Murphy said: “It’s just paper talk really — the usual — but I’m quite happy here and always have been. Apparently there’s been interest in me, according to the papers, but I haven’t heard anything.
“I saw the thing about me going to Newcastle, who are a massive club coming down to the Championship. I think they have kept most of their players from last season and added other players so they will be very hard to beat this season.”
Far from looking to leave, Murphy’s main aim is to get back to the form that made him the Championship’s leading scorer with 27 goals two seasons ago.
“I’d like to think I can do that,” he added. “I feel in good shape at the minute but we’ll see. I’m not setting myself any targets — I just want to get off the mark as soon as I can and hopefully against Barnsley on Saturday.”
Meanwhile, Murphy has revealed that ex-Town boss Roy Keane still retains a soft spot for the club, despite being sacked in January 2011 after 20 months in charge that resulted in 28 wins from his 81 games in charge.
Keane is now assistant to Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill and Murphy said: “I’ve always said that I have always got on with Roy Keane, from when he was manager of Sunderland and manager here at Ipswich to now.
“If you get on with your work and give everything you have you’ll have no problems.
“I see people saying they have problems with him and stuff like that. I don’t understand that.
“With Ireland he has been brilliant — he comes and talk to the players, lets them know their jobs and what he and the manager want from them. He’s a good barrier between the manager and the lads.
“Any time I’m away with Ireland he’ll ask how it is at Ipswich, if I’m enjoying it and stuff like that.
“He had a house here for quite a while and last year when I was talking to him I think he’d only just sold it. It’s clear he still has an interest in the club.”

Ahh Roy Keane only him and Robbie Savage are people in football who always get a W****** sign when I see them on the TV. Great to see Murph staying put though think he will get a good tally this year :-)

Really Murph? I don't think Keane ever had a soft spot for Ipswich & certainly don't think the people have a soft spot for him! You, yes. You are one of our own & good luck for this season getting an early goal is important and I think with MacG back & creating you will have lots more chances - no surprise your goals tally went down without him.

Warky_Tash I totally agree mate, think these young wingers coming in, Searsy playing in a better position and Bishop being fit will also create plenty of chances for Murph :D Just hope we hold on to McGoldrick as he's got interest

Pretty sure Murphy will have a better idea than us on all things in the interview. Fantastic to have him back this season with a point to prove.

Needs to make a quicker start this season. I think we have plenty of forwards capable of putting the ball in the net, so let's hope they're all fired up and ready to try and make those positions their own.

So Keane still asking about Town? Maybe that's why we can't go up, tell him to stop mate, turn our luck around, bloody curse-man...

The players we had under keane were not good enough for him even though he signed most of them. Just before he started we beat card if 3.0 at home ,he was watching in the stands , fantastic performance full of pace power and vigour. Sadly he then fcuked it up , by being aloof as if he were better than the place. Now we have big thick mick , its funny , but he loves the club and his job here ,but i think he's to thick to realise what will get us promotion ,one thing is use your squad and don't flog the guts out of them.

If they offer £5m or above must be considered-----provided we spend dosh on quality replacements. If they fail to score tonight may force the issue a little.

2 things: 1. Why do people come on here and think they know better. If Murphy says that Keane still has a soft spot for Ipswich after actually speaking to the man, who is anyone who hasn't spoken to him to refute that claim? 2. I don't think anyone with grammar and spelling like that of bluefeast, are in a position to call anyone "to thick". I always look back a the Roy Keane era and think, if only......unlike the Paul Jewel era which was a disaster from the outset, which I predicted on the day of his appointment.
