Williams: It's Great to Be Back
Wednesday, 31st Aug 2016 16:58

No sooner had Jonny Williams returned on loan to Town for a fourth time than he was admitting: “I am really excited to be back.”

The Crystal Palace and Wales international midfielder, fresh from his country’s heroics in reaching the semi-finals of Euro 2016, today completed his deadline day move on loan for the rest of the season.

Williams, who has still to fully recover from an ankle injury sustained late in the Eagles’ pre-season programme, said: “I was delighted to get it done. I’m really looking forward, hopefully, to another successful loan spell here.

“It’s a great feeling to be back because I have had some great moments here, especially in my first and second loan spells, and if it wasn’t for a couple of bad tackles who knows what would have happened. I played some of my best football under Mick and TC, so it was a no-brainer to come back here.

“Hopefully I can help this team with a few more goals and assists. I want to help them get to where they want to be, in the Premier League. The very least I’m expecting is to be in and around the play-off spots.”

Asked if he was surprised to be returning to Portman Road on loan for a fourth time, 22-year-old Williams added: “I wasn’t sure what was happening because I got injured in my last pre-season game. Obviously, loans have got to be done by the end of the transfer window and it was mentioned last week that Ipswich were interested again.

“I know what I am capable of giving Ipswich in terms of game time and I have the confidence to go and express myself. I know the manager will let me do that and hopefully I can build on my previous loan spells with some goals and assists.”

Meanwhile, a strong Town U21 side lost 2-1 to Southend United in a friendly at Playford Road this afternoon.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace winger Sullay Kaikai's season-long loan move to Brentford has been confirmed. The 21-year-old was watched by Blues boss Mick McCarthy earlier in the summer.

Claims that Kaikai was watching Town's home game against Preston last week proved to be incorrect.

Former Blues loanee Richard Stearman has rejoined his former club Wolves on a season-long loan from Fulham.

Jonny Williams has become our new odd-job contractor, hasn't he? Get him in for a few months when we've got a job that needs doing. Bit like Daryl Murphy was in the beginning. Or Luke Varney is becoming...!

Good luck, Jonny - glad to have you back again. Just don't let the gits hack you down again!

If he stays fit this is the best signing we will make! He does things that only a top player can do.. Goals.. That defence splitting pass! Absolutely delighted! Just hope he plays at least 25-30 games and doesn't get victimised again! Disgusting tackle that ended his loan previously! Welcome back joniesta! Here is to a successful and injury free loan and maybe a permanent deal next summer! COYB!

As Jonny and didzy aren't playing at the moment do we think they should get down to Argos and buy a flat pack trophy cabinet for the championship winners trophy we are going to be winning?
Keep them occupied for a while

Awesome - really don't understand why he doesn't fit into Palace as their fans love him. They don't understand it either but their loss is our gain. Let's see if he can be protected against the hatchet men. Never saw that coming when he was on Soccer AM on Saturday. COYB 😀😀😀😀

Whilst this is potentially good news, he'll probably get an ankle injury whilst being hit by a champagne cork upon signing the loan contract. Perhaps we should be sponsored by Bupa healthcare.

Perhaps McCarthy will now play Sears through the middle and let Williams feed him the ammunition to get back to scoring goals.

Great player on the ball always looking to run with it and make things happen which unnerves players particularly at Championship level, only worry for me is now we have 3 loanees on season long loans for the rest of the season, I'd much rather us to be signing players permanently but I guess we just can't afford like minded players fees and wages.

If I had to make a forecast of the players we have bought in this summer which will turn out good I'd plump for Williams (if he stays injury free), Ward (already started well) and Lawrence. Just hope Mick doesn't take all season to know what his best midfield is or starting 11 come to that, that's the worry for me! All the best Jonny whilst your here!

"I played some of my best football under Mick and TC."

Really nice to see a flair player like Jonny praise Mick and Terry for the way he has been managed/coached at Town ... especially given the amount of abuse MM and TC get from our own fans for not knowing what they're doing/being dinosaurs/only coaching hoofball/ruining creative players, etc
