McCarthy: About 100 Scouts Watching Horgan
Thursday, 13th Oct 2016 14:19

Town boss Mick McCarthy says about 100 scouts were watching highly-rated Dundalk wideman Daryl Horgan as he scored twice as his side beat Cork City 2-1 on Tuesday. McCarthy, who says he's not going to take his interest in trialist Jordan Spence any further, was reported to have been among those to have sent representatives to take a look at the 24-year-old right winger.

“He plays for Dundalk, he’s been playing particularly well and there were about about 100 scouts watching him against Cork on Tuesday night, I can tell you that,” McCarthy said when asked if he could say anything about his reported interest in the Galway-born wideman.

Quizzed further on the widespread interest in Horgan, he added: “Quite clearly when I get asked a question about him by you there are no secrets are there?”

Regarding trialist Jordan Spence, the former MK Dons and West Ham right-back who played two U23s games for the Blues earlier in the month, he added: “He did all right.

“I took him and had a look at him, there’s nothing ventured nothing gained, but Josh [Emmanuel] came in and played two games so I’m not really looking for one, to be honest.

“If anything it it made Josh go, ‘Hold on a minute, he might be looking at somebody else!’ and he played very well in both games.”

Not sure I believe him there. I reckon there was a couple but if we sign him, it'll sound like Mick has beaten everyone to him!!

Come on the anti MM brigade!

I think it is time for a change of manager - I uploaded a blog saying so - but lets try and give some slack. It will be a very boring TWTD if everything MM says when asked a question is slaughtered.

He was asked a question and answered it. I assume we are constantly looking at players. Anyway if this lad is any good ME won't spend the money to get him so why worry ourselves..

Yes Josh did play well. Miles better than Chambers. The former must start at the weekend.

NSL

Actually only a couple of months on his contract, available on a free in January. Irish season runs through the summer, which is presumably why Dundalk weren't prepared to sell then, particularly as they were making such excellent progress in Europe.

So Emanuel only played well because Mick utilised his genius management by getting someone on trial to make him play well ...... not because he is actually good enough & should have been given a go/chance before, as lots of people were clamouring for.
Thanks for clearing that up Mick .... there was me thinking you were forced into a change ..... but of course I'm just an imbecilic fan who knows nothing.
