Wolves Linked With Town Skipper
Sunday, 1st Jan 2017 11:00

Wolves are reportedly weighing up a January bid for Town skipper Luke Chambers.

According to the Sunday Mirror, the Molineux club are considering a move for the 31-year-old as they look to bolster their squad.

Chambers, it’s reported, would be available for a bargain price as he is out of contract in the summer.

However, while the deal the centre-half or full-back signed in October 2014 does run to the end of June this year it includes an option for the club to extend it for a further season.

Chambers has been a fixture in the Town side since joining the Blues in the summer of 2012 and was made club captain by Mick McCarthy following Carlos Edwards’s departure at the end of 2013/14.

The transfer window opens today with the Blues closing in on the additions of strikers Danny Ward from Rotherham and Cauley Woodrow from Fulham.

Emmanuel is too young to be permanent fixture in the team

May be a good move for all concerned, think Chambers looks like a player whose knows his time is up at Ipswich and doesn't seem happy. He has been a wonderful servant and a great captain, bit if a club could offer him regular football at centre half he would be mad not to look at it.

Interesting as I went to a baby/toddler play event last week and the people next to me were clearly wifes/girlfriends of ITFC players and one of them said that MM was looking to bring another RB in as 'Luke' will be leaving. Didn't bother posting then as so much talk around but would support this plus MM looking at the RB from Dundalk

Not surprised by this at all. Luke very unsettled at the moment. He has been pushing the club on numerous occasions since the summer what is happening with his contract at the end of the season and the club have declined talks. Whether you rate him as a right back or not, he has totally bought into MM playing him out of position, gives 100% week in week out and is club captain . In addition, unlike other players he has moved his young family into the Town and they are all settled. I'm guessing his agent is getting his name about as he is getting very little feedback from the club. Poor once again from ITFC.

Get rid of him total waste of space embarrassing to watch him play

Would be a shame as seems loyal to the club and when played at cb is a good player. Maybe he's had enough of being played out of position and all the criticism that goes with that.

He's probably unsettled at having to play full back, wolves may play him at his suited tole!

To be fair to him he should have nailed down the right cb position from the start. Initially he and Tommy were a solid pairing but then MM moved him to rb and Luke to his credit tried hard but wasn't quite up to it with his shortcomings on display most weeks to the frustration of the fans. If he goes interesting to see which 'proper bloke' takes over. Any thoughts?

Could be a good move for all concerned.Has been a good leader but has lost his way of late.He must be one of the highest earners so could help with bringing in another RB as I feel Emmanuel is not quite ready, but is still a great player for the future.
I will be pleased if we sign the lad from Rotherham but not too sure about the Fulham boy.Even if Varney were to go to Port Vale we still have enough cover up front, best to spend the money on a good RB.That is if all the paper talk is true.Happy new year to all.and let's home Town can have a very good second half of the season.

Chambers is a centre back, and if he leaves ,whoever signs him will be taking on board a very good Championship player if played in correct position!

With Berra leaving in the summer MM and ME need to be sure they know what they are doing. If Chambers is leaving I reckon this could also be about the wage bill.

Emmanuel more than capable of stepping up. I think he will stay though.

Bringing in 2 front men and loosing a defender with no attention being paid to the parlous C midfield seems like a strange way to improve ITFC

I'll be sad, have seen him a couple of times around town, and being 14, he still had time to say hello, or give me a wave. Lovely guy, whom is immensely passionate for the team.

A big loss on that part,

But for footballing ability that could finally mean a breakthrough. We could have a decent footballing right back, which could improve the team a lot. And the Chambers problem would be gone.

If you do go, thanks Chambers, for the passion and the effort you've given the team.

Very hard to criticise Luke really. He is naturally a centre back and a good one at that! Was asked to play full back and rather than moan he has tried his best there. Recieved a lot of abuse from fans over the years but it's difficult to blame him. Been a fantastic captain for us and if he does leave I'll miss those fist pumps!

I don't think the abuse towards Chambers is required.

He has serviced ITFC well, doing the job asked of him, but never a right back.
Could be a good deal all round, one last pay day for him and hopefully we finally sort out this RB spot once and for all.

Don't be surprised if McCarthy stubbornly sees the best course of action is to give him another year at RB though!

Agree with move for Ward. He sounds a bit like Marcus Stewart. We do still need the proven creative midfielder. Hard to say how amenable Hour inane might be to returning after earlier treatment but if we can have someone providing a supply tof Pitman and Co then the second half of season could be much happier. Great to read about Andre's effort Friday. Some positive signs

Give the captaincy to Webster, play Emmanuel at RB, bring in the lad from Dundalk and another CB as cover.

I'm going up that way tomorrow if he wants a lift.
