Five Changes as Blues Face Lincoln in FA Cup
Saturday, 7th Jan 2017 14:18

Town boss Mick McCarthy has made five changes to his team for this afternoon’s FA Cup third round tie against Vanarama National League leaders Lincoln City at Portman Road with Dean Gerken, Jonas Knudsen, Andre Dozzell, Freddie Sears and Grant Ward all starting, while youngsters George Fowler, Adam McDonnell, Shane McLoughlin, Ben Morris and Pat Webber are all among the subs.

Skipper Luke Chambers and Cole Skuse drop out of the squad having been doubts with knee problems, while Myles Kenlock also misses the game having suffered a calf injury at QPR.

Also not in the 18 is striker David McGoldrick, who is understood to have suffered a groin injury in training on Friday.

Christophe Berra skippers in Chambers’s absence, while another striker Leon Best is unwell.

The Blues bench includes 17-year-old left-back Pat Webber, who signed from Worthing at the end of last season, 19-year-old central defender or right-back George Fowler, who is from Ashfield near Debenham, Irish U19 international midfielder Adam McDonnell, 19, who made his league debut at Derby on the final day of last season, and strikers Shane McLoughlin, 19, an Irish U18 international, and England U18 international Ben Morris, 17.

Town: Gerken, Emmanuel, Webster, Berra (c), Knudsen, Bru, Ward, Dozzell, Sears, Pitman. Subs: Bialkowski, Fowler, Webber, McDonnell, Douglas, McLoughlin, Morris.

Lincoln: Farman, Wood, Habergham, Waterfall (c), Power, Rhead, Hawkridge, Raggett, Arnold, Woodyard, Robinson. Subs: Walker, Muldoon, Marriott, Long, Miles, Fixter, McCombe.

Obviously, MM is feeling confident starting with 10 men!?

That's what I want to see from the team, - bit of confidence. We don't need 11 men to beat the non-leaguers so we're only naming a ten man team! 🙂

Sidtheswan - I don't care who's on the bench if we can't beat a non league side with our first 11 we may as well give up!

I agree with sidtheswan unless you consider Douglas a game changer. I think McCarthy has got his excuse for loosing in the bag already. An injury forces a change and no one with experience to come on.
Or the sub scores a hat trick and McCarthy is a footballing genius

"Douglas a game changer ", that he certainly is, when he comes on guaranteed not to win!

obviously we will have greater number of supporters ,but it shows dwindling interest .

both McDonnell and Morris could have real impact from the bench

We are used to playing with 10 men ( when different class is included )

We play with 10 men every time Douglas plays anyway! Oh well he is on the bench so he will come on second half to protect a lead them we will concede.we always do him in the side

Let's just go over the comments from the past few years where people were rightly complaining that MM didn't put out strong enough teams for the FA Cup.This time,he has, allowing for injuries over which he has no control.Nothing to be negative about, good team vs lowly Lincoln so my prediction is a comfortable win for ITFC followed by all the negativity some on this forum can muster.
