ITV Studios has bought a majority stake in Town owner Marcus Evans’s World Productions, which makes BBC1’s acclaimed Line of Duty.

Industry insiders estimate that Evans could have received £30-£40 million for the business he bought in 2012.

In addition to Line of Duty, World Productions has also been behind Born To Kill , The Bletchley Circle, Dark Angel, In Plain Sight, Code Of A Killer, This Life and The Great Train Robbery during its 20-year history.

Blues managing director Ian Milne is currently among the directors of World Productions.

From memory, he was quoted around £720 million last year, give or take a penny, just ahead of Sir Paul McCartney.

NBVJohn added 11:18 - May 4 ME could have sold this business for any number of reasons, so not much point in speculating about what he will do with the money! I don't think this should create false hope - the story is related to ITFC in as much as both businesses have the same owner, but for me, that's about as far as it goes. It's vaguely interesting that IM is on both boards, but as a qualified solicitor he is probably there for legal expertise. Let's face it, he certainly isn't the MD of ITFC for his unprecedented knowledge of professional football.
