Town Among Clubs Linked With Swindon Skipper
Wednesday, 10th May 2017 14:43

Town, QPR, Charlton, Rotherham and Portsmouth are all reported to be keen on Swindon captain Nathan Thompson.

The 26-year-old, a centre-half or right-back, is out of contract and is likely to leave the County Ground on a free transfer this summer following the Robins’ relegation to League Two, with the Blues and the other four clubs among those showing interest, according to Sky Sports News.

Chester-born Thompson, who is 5ft 9½in tall, came through the youth system at Swindon and has made 173 starts and 14 sub appearances, scoring four goals, since breaking into the first team in 2010/11.

Centre half or right back? Maybe a replacement for Berra but where does that leave Spence and Smith? I would have thought we have enough players for that position, it's striker we should be looking for!

I read that as 'Sweden Skipper'

Can't see an awful lot in this as bringing in Spence and Taylor would seem more likely

Ok so we plump for a guy who plays in defence in a team relagated from league 1. Exciting stuff

Nothing wrong in a lot of these lower league players, Jon Walters for example

I was just reading Swindon articles about him and it said "another injury hit campaign" for him - we don't need more injury prone players! He sounds like a "proper bloke" though so MM would like him, I can't see Mick playing a 5"9 CB though.....

What was interesting was in their player of the season vote Rohan Ince came 2nd despite only joining the club on loan from Brighton in January. I've been impressed with him when I've seen him in the past for Brighton, a big physical energetic defensive midfielder who would give more to the team than Skuse does...

Oooooh my mate knows him, has got him tickets for Swindon games in the past and says he's their best player by a country mile. I will see if he can find out anything!

He is very good on the ball, when I have seen him they have played him as a sweeper/spare man in a three, who brings the ball out of defence and set up most of their attacks, everything went through him.

Have always thought we should go for him, I think he would be good enough to play as a holding midfielder.

A 5'9 centre back sounds exactly what we need.

How many rumours now. The last game was only Sunday and we have been linked with everything that can almost kick a ball

If Spence stays then this is not logical.

Any Berra Replacement has to be left sided.
