McCarthy: Adeyemi Will Add Goals to Midfield
Saturday, 1st Jul 2017 13:46

Town boss Mick McCarthy believes new signing Tom Adeyemi will add goals to the Blues' midfield, the free agent having signed a two-year deal, which includes an option for a further season, yesterday.

Adeyemi, who was released by Cardiff at the end of last season having spent the campaign on loan at Rotherham, was also understood to be interesting his former club Norwich City and a number of other Championship sides.

“Tom is coming into his prime at 25, he has played 220 or so league games so he is very experienced and he showed last season that he carries a goal threat,” McCarthy told the club website.

“Some have him down as a holding midfielder but Rotherham gave him license to get forward last season and he benefited from that.

""“He scored seven goals from midfield at a team that got relegated. That tells you something about the ability he has got. That’s more than we got from our midfield players last season.

“He has got a lot of attributes and I know there were a lot of clubs interested in him.

"He comes across as a really good person as well, which is important. He will fit in perfectly for us and I’m delighted we’ve got him.”

Adeyemi will fly out to Ireland with the rest of the squad for next week’s training camp at the Carton House Hotel in Co Kildare.

Things starting to take shape. A good quality target man and a few others would be the icing on the cake! Big gates will definitely help the atmosphere too. Keep it coming Town!!

Huws had a very similar return to Adeyami, with Huws getting 3 in 13 (roughly 1 in 4) and Adeyami getting 7 in 29, again roughly 1 every 4. So between them our midfield would be scoring 1 every 2 games which is brilliant especially if we can get Garner and McGoldrick linking up nicely and firing on all cylinders. Webster is going to be like a new signing further solidifying the defence. I can sense a very buzzing optimistic atmosphere come the 5th of August!

What a novel concept - goals from midfield...

Think he's a decent signing to be honest.

Needs to played in the right position MM, not in a position to accommodate others.

Good signing. Was sure he was going back to Naawich , but I suppose it was a case of once bitten , twice shy.

Hopefully he will be a real midfielder ,supply the frontmen and knock a few in ,Lets hope McCarthy will take a positive approach this year, he has been given the chance to bring players in , ball is in his court , time to walk the talk, no excuses no bullsh#'t, .

Does anybody think that at last pressure will be on Cole Skies instead of being first on team sheet ?

Unfortunately Seasider no I don't. And it's that reason that I haven't renewed my ticket sadly.

Any more news on Celina???

He won't get 7 goals from midfield if all he has to feed on is hard fought 2nd balls. If we actually play through midfield, he might have a chance!

For gods sake the club at the top are trying to be positive now for the forthcoming season , do we really need these negative comments coming through let's face it if your a passionate loyal true blue you support them through what ever is thrown at us we will still be here gods willing way after MM and this group of players have well gone Havnt renew stay away

Hyam hasn't proved anything Yet. Haircut may help. Would love to see goals from strikers. Not sure Garner is going to get 20 odd. We need to find a gem from our redundant scouts

Can't see Skuse being left out.

Starting to feel a bit more optimistic although 19 goals from 218 games is not great but he did get 6 last season. We need all our midfielders chippnig in with 5-10 goals each. Won't be long before MM starts hailing his new signings as "different class". Brett pitman, cole Skuse and even Jonathan Douglas have been referred to as this in the last 12 months ! And he is right, they are. League one or two class !!! Celina is the one that excites m e most. Just hope he gets used.

@Johnno - it's not negativity, it's a hopeful plea that McCarthy has listened to long suffering true blue fans, and has finally realused that boring hoof ball is not the Ipswich way. I'm really pleased we have acquired some attacking players, but Mick's failed for three seasons to set the team up positively, and has instead played potentially match winning players out of position to enable his good old boys to pass square or backwards. Blind optimism isn't for me I'm afraid. Expressing the hope that MM will play attacking football is NOT being negative.

Skuse should not be anywhere on the team sheet, but then Mick thinks he's premiership class!!

Well big man the owner is giving you some money to spend to hopefully makes us challengers instead of strugglers new players add impetus to the squad and gives optimism for the new season, just give it a go Mick and play some decent football and have a positive outlook for once instead of the continual excuses and playing for a point at home we fans have been sick of your negativity(that's why we have stopped coming to Portman Road) and picking proper blokes who are rubbish(Skuse) now is the time big man to get it right or get on your bike!!

Now send Hyam on loan if anyone will have him that is. Absolutely not up to this level of football.

Pleased with this and other signings so far
Still want to see how they are played by MM before getting too excited.

If ME has loosened the purse-strings then pressure will be on MM to provide a return on investment....
