Hurst: We May Have to Be Patient on Signings
Monday, 18th Jun 2018 16:39

Blues boss Paul Hurst, who officially took charge at Portman Road this morning, doesn’t expect to make any signings prior to the start of pre-season training.

The squad are due back at Playford Road on Friday for testing with pre-season preparations for 2018/19 getting under way in earnest next week.

“I think we’ll probably return with what we’ve got,” Hurst told iFollow Ipswich.

“With the step up I think we maybe have to be a little bit more patient in terms of bringing players in.

“There is also the World Cup and other England tournaments going on so straight away that impacts us.

“It means the situation might be a slow burner. Of course in an ideal world I’d have four or five lads in, I’d know what my squad is and I would know where we’re going but that’s very rarely the case in football.”

Hurst is believed to be keen to recruit defender Aristote Nsiala and midfielder Jon Nolan from his old club Shrewsbury, while he said at last week’s press conference that adding wingers to his squad is a priority.

Meanwhile, young Manchester United keeper Dean Henderson, who spent 2017/18 on loan with the Shrews and who might have been on Hurst’s list of potential targets should Bartosz Bialkowski move on over the summer, has joined Sheffield United on a season-loan loan.

Far too many ITFC Supporters live in 'cloud cuckoo land' - get REAL and smell the Coffee, for the aroma that it REALLY is.

In other words GET REAL for once - and in doing so give the man a chance. He was not my first choice, as I've stated previously, for many reasons - but he's here, will have his own ideas, he's young - and he would be expensive to pay off remember, being on a tree year deal.

Therefore we have him, rightly or wrongly - SO GET BEHIND HIM. We have what we have.

Call me old-fashioned, but I like to give the manager a little bit more than a day in the job before I start calling for his head. I'm busy with work and the world cup right now, so I'm more than happy to leave Hurst to get on with it. It's a shame some of our supporters are so negative. It would be nice to be allowed a little optimism.

He needs to suss out who he can sell first. The worry is if he sells the family silver, will he get the money to reinvest?

Far more transfer activity happens towards the end of the window than at the start of it, anyway.

Managers should get players before preseason which is correct but for this season it's different as it's a new manger who just took on the job. Therefore it doesn't make sense for the manager to have bought players.

New manager new to the squad, give him a chance. Why do the moroons on here want to keep signing players?????? development is the future for a club like ours.

SBR only signed 14 players in his 13 years here. So if Hurst has to look at our youth, which he has already stated he'll do thats great by me.

He's never going to sign players with a tournament going on anyway. Plus its holiday season. We'll have a couple in by the end of August im sure.

We will get more money from the World Cup if Denmark and Poland manage to qualify from their groups...that could be what we are waiting on. We will get 17K for every day that Knudsen and Bart are still in the World Cup. Add that to the 238K we got for the two weeks prior to the World Cup....

No wonder the club (at the time) were so excited about the New Zealand vs Peru play off (at the time we had two NZ internationals. If NZ had won we'd have been getting something in the region of an automatic 30K per day....

Since when did a manager on a low budget start spouting off about who he's going to buy, I personally believe P.H. Was behind the players that left got kicked out,bet he knows who he wants and they are all on holiday he's not just going to start looking now, have we not already got a winger who never played be interesting to see good luck to him cannot wait to fly in and watch a game again

Not really any surprises here really...Evans never spoke about splashing the cash as we've got a new manager. I'm expecting a couple of new editions (probably from Shrewsbury or a league 1 or 2 club) and again loan or two from the Premiership to get their secondary or youth players experience.

and as stated nothing really to moan about...

Not Hurst's fault, Evans's penny pinching has come to the fore yet again. He is ruining the club and some of you seem happy with a legacy of a generations worth of stagnation. No other fans would put up with this. The most apathetic, docile, passionless fans in the whole league, those that accept this are a disgrace

reading some of the posts it would be easy to think Mick was still here. I can see total meltdown, the first game we lose. We have a new manager who probably dosnt even know his way to the toilet from his office yet, and people are getting fidgety and going for the knife drawer..

FFS the poor guy has only just started this week, he's had a longer season than most due to getting a small unfancied team into the play offs ahead of much bigger clubs with bigger resources and quite rightly would want to assess what he has first! I have no doubt he is already on the lookout for wingers but as soon as a club starts banging on about how they need this and that the prices start going up so how about we all let him do his job and give him some time!
@Lightningboy I dont agree the previous manager was in post for 6 years, with it taking 4 years of absolute dross before getting grief this season so why would he not get the same time?

StringerBell added 12:57 - Jun 19
Europablue - completely agree, let's not pounce on the guy before he's had to assess things fully.
Unfortunately my fat fingers hit the down button when I meant to upvote you so my apologies for being a clutz.

Here we go again. PH has been in the job 1 day and already the usual idiots are spouting their negative drivel.

northblue added 14:21 - Jun 19
Have been waiting for the moaners to start. Must make them happy to have a go. PH is being sensible and waiting to see how the players get on in training and also look at the up and Coming youngsters.

How anyone can slate Hurst on anything before they have personally witnessed what's he's all about simply beggars belief imo. Lets give him a chance and see what his intentions are before passing judgement. He weren't my first choice or even my second, but from what I seen and heard from him so far, I'm all good with him.

I was thinking about getting a season ticket for the first time in 7 years. Don't think I'll bother now.

warktheline added 19:44 - Jun 19
I'm backing Hurst's energy and knowledge of 'lower league' players to alter the club's 'sideward linger' to a 'gradual' move forward. If you're expecting Evans to throw money around then Lampard would have been sitting at the helm. The guy fully deserves his chance and TIME, and guess what? Every now and then, a club and new manager for whatever reasons 'click'! Get your arse to Portman Road and 'rally' around manager and players! Something might just 'click'! Evans is a totally different 'issue'.

Why would he sign anybody until he starts working with the players, give him and the club a chance. The players we have been linked with may not suit his plans. Also why would Ipswich have taken his opinion on any player we have released as until he signed he may have not become our manager.

runningout added 08:51 - Jun 20
PH not been wowed by many, or any players in the league he's left I guess
