Hurst Not After Shrews Pair, No Return for Carayol or McGoldrick as Town Linked With Tilt
Monday, 25th Jun 2018 12:42

Blues boss Paul Hurst says there’s nothing in reports linking him with a return to his former club Shrewsbury to sign midfielder Jon Nolan and defender Aristote Nsiala, while he confirmed that winger Mustapha Carayol and striker David McGoldrick won’t be back with the Blues for the season ahead.

Nolan and Nsiala have been linked on a number of occasions since Hurst took over at Portman Road at the end of last month, however, when asked about the reports the new Blues boss said there is nothing in them.

“Not really, no,” he responded. “I think those players will be closely guarded, shall we say. Whether anything happens for those lads, we’ll see.

“Clearly there are some good players that I’ve left behind there. As staff you get some praise but ultimately it’s the players and they had an excellent season and they’ll be looking to repeat that.”

As for Carayol, who impressed during an injury-hit short spell in the second half of last season, returning, he added: “There’s been no contact regarding him and in all honesty I’ve kind of got the targets in mind.

“He’s a player, like you say, who fits the bill in a lot of ways but again I’m maybe just trying to freshen things up. Never say never but at the minute I’ve got other players in mind.”

As reported by TWTD in May, Hurst confirmed McGoldrick has left the club will not be returning with his contract up at the end of the month: “David’s moved on.”

The Irish international’s departure means Hurst is likely to be looking for another striker this summer as well as wingers, which he has already said he is targeting, while another central defender also appears to be on his wish-list.

On which note, the Blues are reported to have made a bid for Blackpool centre-half Curtis Tilt, 26.

According to HITC Sport, the Blues are hoping to steal a march on a number of other clubs who are keen on Tilt, who include Reading, QPR and Portsmouth.

Walsall-born Tilt played in non-league for Halesowen Town, Hednesford Town, AFC Telford Town, Wrexham and Forest Green Rovers (loan) before joining the Tangerines last summer. He made 45 starts for the League One side last season, scoring once.

Curtis Tilt, know nothing of him, seems like he's moved on quite a bit for a 26yr old but fully trust the gaffer with our club, and more competition for places is always welcome!

Obviously Paul will have seen Curtis Tilt last year, big, powerful, strapping centre half, very much like Adam Webster in the fact he likes to step out of centre half with the ball, looks as though he should be terrible on the ball but is actually very good at stepping out with it. And importantly is left footed which is something that has been unbalanced in our back line for some time now.

Whoever we get I like the fact that Paul has identified his targets. The bloke is not daft, he'll know exactly what players will help strengthen & better the squad. With the Shrewsbury lads he'll know what sort of price tags are on their heads & might just think that we've got just as good, if not better players already at the club. Hopefully see a few in this week before they go to Spain, COYB!

Interesting read from Gary Bowyer (Blackpool Manager) from only a couple of weeks ago, demanding he wants a seven figure sum or forget about it, surely that will price us out of this if theres any truth in it at all.

While Curtis Tilt is going to a fee, former Scotland u21 international, 2 years younger at 24, also left footed centre half, Clark Robertson is set to become a free this summer. Gary Bowyer describes him as one the best ball playing centre halves in the League.

Just because he is out of contract doesn't mean he will cost significantly less than tilt. Think he is looking for a decent wage and with clubs after him he's probably able to command it.

Does anyone know when he names the captan?

Any news on Barts contract?

Are Dozza, Huws and The Bish back from a full pre-season?

....my only worry with all the CB being linked is that it signals Webster's departure for money .....him and balli are our main assests ....really hope I am wrong

We've often been at our best when we have oddly named players.

Sounds like he had a good season. Surely the 7 figure transfer fee puts us out of the running though?

If QPR are really in for him, that's bad news. They tend to be able to pay and tend to get their man.

Emyr Hughes and Teddy Bishop still out but Dozzell is back. Gerken injured. Would be really interesting to know what his thoughts are on his first 11 plus subs right now, especially with him liking the 4-1-4-1 formation. Waghorn certainly up front with Bart in goal and Skuse in that DM role until we sign wingers it would be Garner, Sears, Ward and Drinnan competing in the wide positions.

I'm liking Paul Hurst more by the minute, seems to already know what is required for his Ipswich Town team. Injury prone players, however good they may have been, have no place.
That might be a wake up call to few others in our squad?
