Posh Could Eye Blues Striker Jackson Claim Sunday, 5th Jan 2020 10:27 Town striker Kayden Jackson reportedly could become a target of Peterborough United this month.
According to The Sun on Sunday, Posh “will keep tabs on” Jackson as a potential replacement for frontman Ivan Toney if the 15-goal League One top scorer moves on in January.
Toney is believed to be interesting a number of clubs from higher divisions, including Bournemouth, Burnley, Derby County, Bristol City and Middlesbrough, but with owner Darragh MacAnthony having put a £13 million price tag on his head and having said he is confident of keeping hold of him during this transfer window.
Peterborough came very close to signing Jackson, who has scored seven times for the Blues this season, before he instead opted to move to Portman Road from Accrington Stanley for £1.6 million in the summer of 2018.
Even if Posh were to show interest, it would be a huge surprise if Town were willing to sell Jackson, who is contracted until the summer of 2021 with the club having an option for a further year, given his importance to the side this season.
Earlier in the week, general manager of football operations Lee O’Neill said that the Blues want to keep their most talented players but added that there could be some scope for wheeling and dealing during the window.
"We want to keep hold of our better players and our younger players as long as possible to try and give us the ability to go to the next level,“ he told BBC Radio Suffolk when asked about manager Paul Lambert's recent comments about perhaps having to sell in order to add to his squad.
"If it's right in a business sense and provides the chance for reinvestment in the future, it's something we will look at, but ideally we would like to keep them at the football club as long as possible."

Would be ridiculous to sell Jackson, been our best striker this season and starting to come good - guess it's just paper talk

They think Jackson's good, I say catfish them in a swap deal with Marcus Maddison or Mo Eisa.

If a good offer comes in, the likelihood is he will be sold, with very little of the funds received being reinvested into a replacement. If anything, we will sign a much cheaper alternative who isn't as good. It's been the story under Evans ownership for quite some time and won't change.

Still can't believe he cost £1.6 mil. Starting to come good but I fear if Peterborough match that he'll be gone

Not sure we are getting the best out of him - but he has been an improved player recently without really having any shots - I did not go yesterday He certainly is starting to make better runs - seems better on the ball than before - some dangerous crosses, maybe with Bishop or Dozzell in the side he will get some better passes to run on to.

Jackson's a grafter and showed earlier in the season that he knows where the goal is. Like most our players Lambert ain't getting the best out of them

Think he'd do well at Posh with better supply, they are so good at finding replacements whilst selling on big players, we'd sell for £3m even knowing Posh are getting £13m(heard that figure up here a while ago now)and then panic about trying to replace him no doubt.. Toney gets so many chances per game, well five or six, Jackson probably gets two or three...

they can have him for 13m, otherwise, no thanks!

Firstly it's The Sun so just assume it's nonsense. But if Jackson were to move to anyone, I'd feel frustrated we never got the best out of him. In fact in my opinion with this constant rotation we aren't getting the best out of anyone. Please let it stop, please pick a formation, a style of play and a starting 11 and give them a chance to gel and make changes during games or for injuries. Otherwise I can see this winless run going on and on and on...

I like Jackson a lot - works his butt off every game but like our other strikers he's being let down by poor service from a very poor midfield behind him. If we're going to ship any players out then start with Nsiala & Norris.

One thing I have learnt over the years is that Peterborough are very shrewd at getting good players in for naff all. Jackson is improving, plus as others have said all our strikers will need service to score. I would love for teddy bishop to stay fit as he would do wonders for us I'm sure, BUT I cant see him staying fit, prove me wrong bishop! Definitely would not sell to a rival though.

Don't sell Jackson, I like him he just needs to find his scoring feet again. If we sell him who will we replace him with? Think him & Norwood is a good partnership but still need the midfield to give them good service. Be stupid to sell him to a rival team but you know what town are like.

I wouldn't be unhappy to see Jackson go. I don't think he's effective, his distribution and finishing is pretty poor, and he makes bad decisions. I'd let him go and replace him with a target man that can hold the ball up and that sears/Norwood can play off.

Id drive him there if they wanted him. Just garbage. Like all of Hursts signings.

Tell you who I would get shot of though! Nsiala, Edward's and I would send Norris back. What's going on with bart? Wonder if millwall will put a bid in? Or maybe another club?

I'd be disappointed to see Jackson go, first and foremost he works hard for the team. If we could get him back scoring goals again that would really boost his confidence. If Posh sell Toney, they'll want a ready made replacement and Jackson fits that criteria. I was hoping we'd try and get rid of some of the deadwood in our squad (I don't classify Jackson as deadwood), but that's probably going to be a hard task with the money they are on here.

he is a grafter, but his decision making is questionable, again he isnt playing with a settled partner where instinctive decisions can be made, he would prob come good at Posh ,at further cost to us .

it could be tempting for us and Posh

He's not a number 9, For me he sits in the same space as Freddie Sears. his graft cannot be criticised but we are desperately in need of a player in the mould of Daryl Murphy or Alan Lee. Most Division 1 and Division 2 teams have a player in this mould and it was very evident against Wycombe when we were getting good balls into the box we didn't have a physical presence attacking them. I personally think we paid well over the top for Jackson having only scored 11 goals for Stanley in Division 2 the season before we signed him. It still sticks in my throat that between Nsiala and Jackson we parted with 2.6 million, I feel like we have been mugged. Unless PL develops this wonderful brand of football where we will end up passing the ball into the net, to get out of this league we don't need a Championship quality centre forward but somebody with the right attributes for the game at this level. At 40 years old Aaron Wilbraham did a job against Newcastle yesterday. Tom Pope at 33 got a great centre forward goal for Port Vale against Manchester City at the Etihad. Akinfenwa at 37 still causes havoc when he is brought on. When Newcastle bought Daryl Murphy from us I suggest their was no realistic prospect of him being a regular player in the premiership but he was bought with the sole purpose of getting them out of the Championship. A battering ram forward should be on our shopping list even if it is an ageing signing who has only a year or two left in him.

This is just silly paper talk. BUT for all his effort I don't think he's that good. His pace is dangerous and useful to have. If we identify a quality replacement and we were offered double what we paid or something you'd have to consider it. Big it's there. Not keen to help a team we are competing with. Still it would be a big downgrade for them!

Not exactly an out and out no.9 as has been pointed out. But to be fair to the lad, even without decent service of any kind, working with scraps, and in a poor team generally, he is one of the few that is consistently a 5+ out of 10. That is bot say much I accept, but given the options ? However, suspect of Sears gets fit he could be gone as put his effort into a progressive, attacking team and am sure he would fill his boots at this level.
