Smithy

Dreadful performance, god help us if any of our first teamers get injured! Bart and Oar aside every one of the 11 that started were dreadful. AMN just didn't want to be there, Digby is nowhere near ready.

ipswich were totally outplayed by a very good footballing team in Portsmouth, who must have feld robbed because they deserved to win the game. It was nice to actually see a keeper roll the ball out and see football played from the back MM take notes thats how football is played............................................

Agree with Smithy. Bart and Oar only starters to show anything. Smith steadied the defence when he came on and Fraser made things happen for us. Chambers and Digby lost for first goal. Well done Portsmouth

Two leagues below us and they passed us off the pitch. That first half was embarrassing. We could have had no complaints if we were 3 - 0 down at the break.
Gutsier second half performance, shows the difference what passing to the feet, pace and movement can do.

Living abroad, I don't get to many games, so looked forward to what should have been a straightforward game.
The first half was incredibly frustrating. No apparent plan or cohesion, being played off the park by an entertaining Portsmouth.
The only shining light in the first half was (my first time at seeing) Tommy Oar, who looked to get the ball down and take men on. If he can't get a starting place soon i despair. He was brilliant.
It took all 3 Town subs to bring any kind of positivity to the team, the little whippersnapper Fraser linking up with his old buddy Pitman, while Smith helped shore up the defence from the inconsistent Knudsen and rusty Digby.
I was thinking 1-1 or 2-1 going into this game, due to the above Town XI not having played as a unit before. In the end a draw was fair, but the worries have returned that many of the fringe players just aren't strong enough.

First of all, well played Portsmouth and your supporters, a draw was the least you deserved, especially the 1st half when two guilt edge chances were spurned.
The second half followed a similar pattern, but with Ipswich now at least competing and with the introduction of Fraser to add flair and Smith to steady the defence, a frenetic final quarter of the game at last captured the cut and thrust of 'The Cup'.
To sum up:
IMO Kyle Bennett was the star of the show, but Fraser coming on as sub, more than matched him.
The Ipswich starting lineup looked reasonable on paper, but with no playing time together failed to gel.
Plus points from this game: Oar ready to start, Bart/Hyam/Varney could cover for Gerken/Skuse/Murphy.
Minus points: no creative midfield general in the club, AMN very poor today, Pitman needs Sears.
The lack of Smith and Berra in the line up has shown up our defensive weaknesses.
The must buy is a midfield general during the January sales period, Bru is good but a more experienced player is required.
A good learning exercise today?

Outplayed, out thought I could say bring back Jewell or Keane, at least we knew who to blame.
Putting Digby in so early was crass, shown by how quickly he was swapped with Chambers.
