Players that fell from grace
at 14:04 19 Jan 2019

By the time Scott Loach arrived here his confidence was shot to bits and this was very much reflected in his performances. That said, I’d suggest that Adam Johnson’s fall from grace was ever so slightly steeper!

Well yeah. But it wasn't really our choice though, was it? It is fairly well documented from both sides that he wanted to leave.

FFS what the **** is wrong with people
at 14:32 15 Jan 2019

The word ‘snowflake’ is such utter nonsense. Those of you that use it cling desperately to this notion of freedom of speech to legitimise every cretinous statement that oozes out of your keyboard. Yes, you do have the right to say whatever you want, just as others have the right to point out how ignorant you are being.

For the record, this snowflake is not offended by the “break a leg” comments. I just think that: a) It is a pretty stupid thing to say to a guy who lost almost two years of his career to such an injury; and, b) It’s not actually that funny.

Who on earth is Maurice Stejin?

Ah-haaaaaah. That would explain it. He couldn't really have done any worse than the guy we ended up with, I suppose.

Who on earth is Maurice Stejin?
at 16:54 4 Oct 2018

And how does everyone on here seem to know so much about him?

His name suggests that he is a bawdy northern comic from the 1970s but I guess this is a false impression as several of you have put him forward him as a viable candidate to replace Paul Hurst. I mean, I get it: at this point literally any semi-functioning biped is a viable candidate to replace Paul Hurst. That said, I would like to know why Mr Stejin is viewed so favourably by so many.

Ipswich Town 1-1 Norwich City - Highlights
at 13:45 3 Sep 2018

Or - as I prefer to call it - "Ipswich Town 1-1 Norwich City - Highlights (as compiled by the Norwich fans in Goebbels' Ministry of Propaganda)."

Did Walters not hit the post? Did Graham not have a strong penalty appeal turned down? Should Edwards not have made it 2-0? Did Walters not have a chance right in front of their goal where the ball just wouldn't drop quickly enough? Did Harrison not fire just wide right at the death?

Gerken vs Bart
at 10:03 3 Sep 2018

You believed Bart was the best keeper in the world? Seriously?!?

Given his form over the last three years a case can be made that he has been the best keeper in the Championship, but if he was the best in the world he wouldn't be playing for us. Simple as.

He is one of the best reflex shot stoppers I have ever seen in an Ipswich shirt, but even when on form he doesn't particularly dominate his area, seems to struggle with long-range shots on the ground, and consistently fails to find teammates with his distribution.

I consider Bart a better keeper than Gerken but there is no way he deserved to play yesterday given his start to the season.

The fact that the original poster went on to describe our fans as "pansies who run from a fight" certainly gives the impression that he is pro-football violence, irrespective of his thoughts on the subject. This is a message board and we can only really go on what people write.

Have you ever met any of the blithering cretins in town-centre pubs who claim to have once been members of the ICF? I think I'd rather be a 'pansy', thanks :)

One thing I didn't like about Hurst's interview last night
at 13:34 15 Aug 2018

After the comments Paul Hurst made in pre-season calling out the squad's general poor level of fitness and Tom Adeyemi's willingness (or lack thereof) to play through the pain barrier, I made a comparison between our new manager's style in dealing with the media and Roy Keane's. We would get poor result after poor result and it was invariably the fault of the club's culture or individual players. This did not end well.

I don't know whether Paul Hurst is a good man manager or not. Unlike a lot of people on this board, I do not have extensive behind the scenes knowledge of what happened at Grimsby or Shrewsbury. All I would say is that he needs to be very careful not to alienate his players. Several of you have held up Ferguson and Mourinho as examples of managers who have publicly called out players to good effect. If memory serves correctly both of them enjoyed their greatest successes with an "us against them" mentality, in which all problems were addressed within the dressing room and a united front was presented outwardly.

A parallel between Roy Keane and Paul Hurst
at 19:33 26 Jul 2018

As many of you will have read, Tom Adeyemi is the latest player to have been called out publicly by Paul Hurst. In this instance, our new boss questions Adeyemi’s willingness to train and compares him unfavorably to another member of the squad who is dealing with similar injury issues.

I don’t know whether any of you remember this but we had a manager some odd years ago who specialised in publicly airing grievances with players and taking potshots at the set-up of his predecessors. That bloke’s name was Roy Keane.

I am not suggesting that there are any similarities between the two in terms of tactics, attention to detail, training methods, whatever. It is too early to tell. What needs to be said, however, is that Keane lost the dressing room due in a large part to burying his players in public. How would you feel if your boss behaved in this manner towards you? I really think Paul Hurst needs to be careful with this stuff.

This probably isn't very PC, but can anyone explain this 'gender-neutral' thing
at 16:19 15 Jul 2018

I get what you mean but biology doesn't necessarily correlate to psychology. I guess my main point is that I don't understand why this is something worth arguing about. Who cares whether someone identifies as male, female or gender neutral? Their choice.

I think just go with it.

As a straight white bloke, it´s not something I necessarily understand. However, if someone tells me that they are 'gender neutral' because they don't identify as being male or female, who am I to argue?

We shouldn't assume that something is wrong or 'political correctness gone mad' just because we don't get it.

The general opinion of Webster surprises me!
at 10:37 28 Jun 2018

I think there are two separate points to be addressed here.

1. “Webster is overrated.” Well, this is subjective. I personally think he has the potential to become a very decent centre half, but - at this stage - there is still much to work on (concentration, positional sense, physical strength).

2. “Webster is injury-prone.” He IS! I think somebody posted his appearance record for us yesterday and - as I suspected - he has spent literally half of his time over the past two seasons out injured. Talented he might be, but there is absolutely no point in our hanging on to players who seemingly can’t stay fit. Surely we have learnt that over the last couple of years? As such, the amount of money offered represents excellent business. Let’s see who Paul Hurst brings in over the coming weeks.

Adam Webster - The case for double standards
at 16:09 27 Jun 2018

The OP makes an excellent point. I’ve read the phrase “if he plays the whole season” about 37 times during this thread. That is indeed possible. However, it hasn’t happened in the two years he has been here. I have seen so many posts on this forum describing David McGoldrick as “the most talented player we have.” What is the point in having a talented player who is barely ever fit? Five million quid for a relatively unproven centre half - who always has a mistake in him and hasn’t played a great deal of football at this level - represents great business. Let’s see who Paul Hurst brings in :)
