Human error was part of the game a few years ago pre VAR. The officials would get some big calls wrong, but by the end of the season, the right/wrong decisions would equal themselves out and it was football at the end of the day. It gave people talking points, it would see you pick up points or it would see you drop points because of key decisions. You'd get players & managers come out after a game to be interviewed and be frustrated - as they would 20-30mins after a game because the emotions are high. I would like to see us return to allowing humans officiate the game and make mistakes - humans aren't perfect. We didn't praise officials enough when they got things right, but we hammered them when they were wrong and called for VAR. Look where we are today, no better off at all. |

This happens all over a football pitch though - grabbing an arm or grabbing a shirt for a second or two before letting go, leaving a little something on someone just as they've released the ball etc. It's not VAR that's the problem. It's the people in charge and how they are directly using it that's really killing the Prem in this country. I don't want much European football but whenever I do, I never see them have VAR issues and they're much much quicker and efficient at using VAR too. Sadly, football is becoming too soft and nice. It's a contact sport slowly being morphed into a non contact sport. |
| Forum Reply | Anyone else feeling a little bit deflated this morning? at 08:09 23 Apr 2024
Not coming back at you personally when I say this but I really don't understand the deflation in general this morning. We can only control what we can control and that is the 90mins against Hull, Coventry and Huddersfield to do our own jobs first. We knew after the Boro game that Leeds and Leicester were going to play a couple of games before we next kicked a ball so it was always a sit back and watch job. The pack of cards we have been dealt with by the schedule could either be a blessing in disguise or it didn't work in our favour at all. Lots to remain positive about. It's in our control if we do our job. |
| Forum Thread | Non league day at 14:55 19 Apr 2024
It's not non league day tomorrow but I'm surprised there hasn't been some comms released from the club to support non league clubs in Suffolk tomorrow with no game ourselves. AFC Sudbury have a massive home game in a bid to stay up. Needham Market final home game before stepping up to play in the Conference North next season. Ipswich Wanderers with a home game, Bury Town at home etc |

For what it sounded like at the time of his departure, it appeared McKenna did like him in the end but didn't play him enough down the middle to offer him a new deal. He did well at Barnsley, but the move to Oldham was a strange one at the time. I presume it was down to the money offered and he got a decent length on the contract for his age - 3 year deal maybe? |
| Forum Reply | Harwood- Bellis is on the shopping list apparently at 08:33 15 Apr 2024
Or it could've just meant Southampton didn't want to sell one of the best strikers at Championship level when they knew they were relegated. I think the rumour originated before Southampton were relegated anyway. Had they stayed up, they probably would've sold Armstrong to a Champ side. |
| Forum Reply | The result doesn't change much at 08:37 11 Apr 2024
Leicester and Leeds play before us again, so again, we will know what we need and what is the minimum before we kick a ball. Form table doesn't lie at the moment. No one is really pulling away or gaining momentum. Just stay in and around it, see what happens. A win Saturday would ease pressure going into two tough away games of course. |
| Forum Thread | The result doesn't change much at 08:24 11 Apr 2024
Going into it, we knew a win would've seen us go top, but a draw doesn't change much. The only thing I'd say is that it gives Southampton a way back in if they win their two games in hand - though their fixtures having to play Leicester and Leeds could well go against them or for them, whichever way you look at it. |

I personally think he's struggled to be honest. He has good attributes for a midfielder and I can see why we signed him, but I think sometimes the step up has been a bit too much. He can give the ball away cheaply at times and I don't think he's quite got the hang of it from a tactical point of view like Luongo did when he came in. It's hard though if you're in and out of a team without getting consistent minutes every week - you're not going to be as sharp as Morsy who's a 90minute man every week. For me, it's been clear that we really need a better partner for Morsy to push on. I think the answer is Flynn Downes or Ben Sheaf but they will cost us. |

I'll be surprised if he doesn't start on Wednesday. One small positive from the weekend is that when he came on, he was looking to play forwards. I'm not too sure what the summer would look like for him if he didn't get a start between now and the end of the season. The jury remains out for me. |

Ah, well noticed! I didn't even look at the fixtures. Means it will remain on Saturday, just depends what time. |

Horrible feeling it's an 8pm Friday night, hope I'm wrong but all will be revealed this afternoon... |
| Forum Reply | That new Coventry date at 07:56 22 Mar 2024
Think stuff like this is a thing in the past and very very rare these days. If it was Saturday/Tuesday for us in say Barrow and Carlisle then maybe we would for example, but Hull and Coventry isn't that bad. |
| Forum Reply | Blackburn allocation at 13:02 14 Mar 2024
Does anyone know if this initial allocation only sells out at 5+ points bracket for example, whether the club will request additional tickets ahead of general sale? I have a couple of people who want to go and make a weekend of it but they won't be until the general sale bracket. |

It's not so much about the fact we are playing Plymouth as you're right, there isn't much unique about the fixture at all and it is just another game. For me, it's going into a game without 2 of our better players and potentially without our top goal scorer too and that would be our first choice attacking midfielders out of the game before a ball is kicked. We don't have the strength in depth that Leicester, Leeds and Southampton have. Going to Plymouth and winning without Broadhead, Chaplin and Burns really would be a statement. I don't think anyone could hand on heart say they expect us to go into any game in this division and win without those 3 playing. |
| Forum Thread | A win tomorrow at 10:27 1 Mar 2024
would be a real statement going to Plymouth without Burns and Broadhead (plus a not fully fit Chaplin) and picking up 3 points. Easier said than done, not many tougher grounds to visit and take 3 points in this league but I think it'll make the other 3 teams around us sit up and take note if we do. |
| Forum Reply | El Mizouni at 13:28 28 Feb 2024
All sounds very positive with El Mizouni and I think this summer is make or break. I think the bigger picture for him and in general with any players coming into the side looking to make a case in a central defensive role, left back role, central midfield role or striker role is having their own stamp and not having the 'but he's not got the grip on a game like Morsy' or 'he's not as effective getting forward as Davis' comparisons because these are players who we will do very well at replacing when the time comes. It's like when Humphreys played at left back for a couple of games because of Davis's injury. We all knew he wasn't going to provide the threat that Davis does, but he's being compared to Davis. Morsy and Luongo have been different class. McKenna has probably got the absolute maximum out of them individually and as a pairing. You can tell the other options we have just aren't on their level. Can El Mizouni bring his own personality into the midfield one day? Time will tell. |
| Forum Thread | Shea Lacey at 11:37 27 Feb 2024
After seeing, and not being surprised by European clubs monitoring Omari Hutchinson, I wonder what other young players we are keeping an eye on. Rak-Sakyi was one who was mentioned a lot and I have a feeling he will be one we look to revisit in the summer if we remain in the Championship and if a loan deal for Hutchinson isn't possible. An outside name, though it may be year or so too early is Shea Lacey. Talented lad for his age group, England youth international and a very similar style to Phil Foden on the eye, but a player McKenna will definitely know. The loan and development with Omari has worked very well and big clubs will take note and trust us with their youngsters. |
