Best players that fit our system from the Championship
at 09:31 6 May 2024

Having witnessed what we have over the last 2 years, character has to be the top quality we are looking for. The whole is so much greater than the sum of the parts. We will need to continue with players who are willing to be part of a squad, who may start on the bench and come on at 60 minutes. As fans, we don't know much about the players' mindsets and how they would mesh with the existing group. But based purely on footballing ability and where we need to strengthen, some I'd be interested to see would be
GK - Cooper (great name for a Town keeper!)
DM: Downes (but would cost a fortune from Wet Spam) so probably Ben Sheaf
CB: Elkan Baggott - bring him home, get more McKenna coaching into him.
ST: Gotta get Omari signed up. Jezza also.
CF: Sargent - what I like is that as well as a great goal scorer, he is streetwise, he can buy a pen of freekick, and I worry that we are a bit too honest - the Prem is a cheats paradise.

I know he’s from Yorkshire but he’s been here so long, it wouldn’t be out of order to sing “Kayden Jackson, he’s one of our own”

Yes, there is a big ITFC SW meetup at Ludo, will be loads there. ITFCSW has ~300 members, and many of those without tickets are meeting up at Ludo - so far 13 confirmed (yikes) and a few more maybes.

I know some Arsenal fans who are in their ballot system (for home games). They only get a couple of tickets per season, but seems to keep them really engaged and incredibly excited when they get a ticket for a game.

it's a tough one isn't it? People who have Memberships and have built up points this season (and last) will rightly feel aggrieved if a large number of new members who only became interested when we became successful get the same rights in a ballot.
There simply won't be enough tickets, that's a fact, so whatever the club do, people will grumble.
I'd think that a fair way might be to have first dibs for SB Members with say 20+ points. Then some form of raffle for the remainder - but with a higher number of "raffle tickets" based on (i) number of points and (ii) the region you live in for a particular match (controversial yes - but a nod towards sustainability to reduce travel miles).
You can't make everyone happy - you might please some of the fans most of the time, and most of the fans some of the time, but that's about it.

Indeed, I've been supporting Town since the late 60s, and whilst our team now has yet to reach the heights of the glory years, the off the pitch management of the entire club is the best it has ever been. Which is what gives me confidence that this time, any major stadium redevelopment will not impact our on-the-field performances anywhere near as much as the previous times.

35k capacity ground isn't even enough is it?
at 09:44 2 May 2024

Gamechanger 20 have continued to show more ambition than most fans. An American trait is to think big - and it is their money after all.
Factors to take into account (and that make it very different from previous stadium developments) are:
1) a massive increase in the demand as our target market - it's now 100% of the population rather than 50% due to the inclusivity
2) All the work of the Foundation is to strengthen community links which further increases potential fanbase
3) MA has spoken about "the ground faces the wrong way" - he wants to see a new "face" to the stadium facing the Town
4) Premier League football will bring more interest to the town as a whole - more commerce, new businesses, increased population, all of which are clearly within the vision of MA
5) as mentioned in posts above, more fans = increased commercial revenues from merchandise, plus events hosting for sustained income
6) The Cobbold is very cramped - it only holds about 6500 (?), and if we are replacing it, it makes sense to have a showpiece stand facing the town, with a capacity of 13,000, resulting in a ground capacity of around 36,500.

Also, once the investment is made and the stand is built, that increased revenue is available every year - so over 20, 30 years, you can get several £M additional every single year.

Sure, if we only stay one season in the PL, interest will wane, but I have a sneaky feeling that the ambition of the owners is such that once we get to the PL, they will back McKenna to keep us there. They have said it's a long term project, so even if it involves a yo-yo, that is the place we are headed.

End of the game scenes

That really brought a lump to my throat. The two survivors. The look on their faces. Massive congratulations to them both. They have both been great servants to this club, bet they never thought they would see this day.

Do you feel grumpy with the government?
at 19:01 28 Apr 2024

I work at a major NHS Trust as a senior manager, and I can assure you that EVERYONE is just desperate to get rid of this bunch of corrupt, lying criminals. The NHS is completely crippled by being starved of funds. As an example, the NHS has to replace equipment from a capital allocation each year determined by the Treasury via NHS England. We have around £120M of equipment across the Trust. Our allocation this year is £3M. You don't have to be a genius to work out that at that level of funding, equipment needs to last, on average, 40 years before it is replaced. We have scanners and x-ray machines that are more than 20 years old and limping along or totally broken. Then there is the estate - we have clinical rooms and corridors, waiting rooms, that every time it rains, we have dozens of buckets on the floor to catch water coming through the roof, and it's been like that for years and is getting worse. We've been told this week that there is a recruitment freeze for all staff types. The tory scum have deliberately starved funding from the NHS to make it collapse, so that they can claim that the NHS isn't working, and that we should have a private health system like in the US.
I'm really proud of my colleagues who refuse to cave in, who keep going and stay largely positive through team work and always trying to improvise and do the best they can under almost impossible conditions. It just does not seem like we are in a 1st world country any more. People need to ask where the money has gone. We raise a lot of money in taxes in this country, but it isn't going into public services.
I guess the trouble is that Labour will inherit a legacy of destroyed public services that will need countless billions to put them right. A new 700 bed hospital costs around £1.5Bn , and we need lots of them. So even with a Labour government, it will take at least 2 or 3 terms of office to rebuild, and the economy will need to pour the money in - to the NHS, to social care, transport, education, police, you name it.
Hopefully the tory scum party will break up, probably into a fascist Reform-type that leaves other ex-tories that will form a new moderate right of centre party. It surely will be the end of the Conservatives as we know them. One of my biggest hopes is to get electoral reform and a transferable vote system.

Anyone else feel Taylor and Travis really improved the midfield?

Hull are a really good team. They have brought in some incredible talent in January, to an already very strong championship team, and they had a full house roaring them on in an absolute must win game. The fact that we led 3 times and overall were the better team just blows your mind considering that 12 months ago we were in L1. Not many Championship games are tougher than last night, so it one of the 5 points we needed to guarantee PL football next season. Astonishing.

Huddersfield (h) tickets
at 19:13 17 Apr 2024

This type of thing is going to be a common problem. Lots of people who want to buy two tickets together but have different priorities. Maybe the club should allow two people with different priorities to merge the points for the two so that each has half of the combined priority when buying two tickets together?

If we end up in the POs v Norwich - home game likely to be moved...
at 07:47 16 Apr 2024

Not if its a lunchtime ko. Playing first gives the lower placed team the best chance of getting a lead going into the second leg. A lunchtime ko, when it is much harder to generate atmosphere, against a team sitting on a lead and countering? No thanks.

at 07:15 16 Apr 2024

Everyone knows that the Play-Offs aren't a fair means of deciding promotion, but at least there is a nod given to the advantage of finishing higher - which is that the higher placed team plays the second leg at home under the lights where the atmosphere is electric. Also the timing of the two pairs of semis, so that there is a similar recovery time prior to the final.

If plod intervenes and insists on a Saturday lunchtime ko, they are interfering with the very integrity of the competition. That advantage of finishing higher (by around 20 points) is gone.

Imagine if those puke-coloured six-fingered sister botherers were to progress at our expense on our patch, after we finished 20 points ahead. Whether it was a lunchtime or not, there would be loads of trouble. Plod's best bet, if it transpires that we are in the POs and get them, would be to let it go ahead as an evening game and hope that we win.

The hardest thing I have ever had to write
at 15:23 15 Apr 2024

I'm no professional, so all I can suggest are a couple of things that I've picked up along life's journey....

When you're feeling down like you are, and a loss of confidence, there is little better in my experience than notching up a couple of successes. But I think they key is not to be too ambitious. Write down a list of things that you should do/achieve. It could be as simple as a shopping list, or taking some exercise, or striking up a conversation with someone. But make a list, and perhaps decide when you are going to do it. Once you've completed a task, tick it off on the list. I always find that once you get a few ticks on the list, you start to feel more positive, and have achieved something. It then gives me more confidence to tackle some of the slightly more challenging tasks.
It may not work for you, but its a technique that I find works well. And talking definitely helps. Good luck bud.

400 tickets given out?
at 07:26 7 Apr 2024

you would think that there would be a mutual agreement between the clubs for Directors/officials to get a certain reciprocal number of tickets - perhaps 25 or so each in the Directors area for former managers/players/celebrities. Ticket sales of the allocation stipulated by EFL are supposed to be for fans according to the prioritisation scheme. QED.
