A note for those who are serious about their news and politics
at 10:50 12 Sep 2023

If you let off steam on this site about politics or the state of the world, wouldn't you prefer to write for a much bigger audience? East Anglia Bylines are looking for reporters, writers and investigators. There is no money, just the satisfaction of being in a position to get the bastards and see your byline in print.

We are read by most local opinion leaders and many politicians across the country and in the EU, and we seriously need more colleagues. No experience necessary, just general literacy, a logical mind and a grasp of how the world works. This is perfectly genuine.

Kosovo...
at 10:17 31 May 2023

Why they aren't in Serbia is what the Serbs want to know. Ever since they lost the Battle of Kosovo in 13489 the Serbs have felt their rightful claims to a greater Serbia have been thwarted. (It's what caused the most recent Balkan war, and arguably all of them.)

The Serbs arrived in the 6th century as tribes of Slavs, and at that time occupied Serbia, Herzegovena and Kosovo, but the advance of the Turks deprived them of those other territories and they became a Turkish vassal state. It was only during the 19th century that they gained independence again, and set about re-establishing their claims. But the ethnic, religious and language differences have continued to prove prickly and sometimes lead to bloodshed.

NeilMed do a simple squeaky plastic bottle which squirts salty water up your nose. Very low tech but for me the results were dramatic. £9.99 from any pharmacy.

I believe Cromer still has the very last 'end of the pier' show in the country. probably worth going for that alone. And there's a very decent pub up on the cliff.

Is anyone else concerned by this?
at 15:14 3 Aug 2022

A schism in a political party is hardly news, and this particular story only causes outrage on Labour's hared left because they are looking for a way to undermine and depose Starmer. Neither side comes out of this very well, but other than for the party and its' headbangers it's fairly small beer compared to what else is happening in the world.

"Ms Coffey was unavailable for comment."
at 11:03 12 Jul 2022

In fact things may be beginning to change. I investigated the last local elections across the east, and formerly safe Tory seats were seeing changes, dramatic in some cases. Partly down to demographics, partly to usual Tory voters now furious over Partygate. Most apparent in Herts, similar signs in Cambs. Not enough evidence in Norfolk or Suffolk so far.

Tom Hunt today

Hunt has a 5,000 majority, and unless there is a dramatic swing back to the Tories in the polls, he will lose. And you can be sure Jack Abbott will run an effective campaign, starting now.

The reason why Coffey was unavailable for comment to the EADT is that she and the political team at the paper share a mutual contempt, and are rarely on speaking terms.

Coffey confronted in Saxmundham
at 10:52 11 Jul 2022

You make a good point. Increasingly MPs try to avoid their constituencies and often don't reply to mail either. Coffey is one of the worst, and in fact her idea of a public meeting is to have constituents vetted beforehand, then only announce venue and time at the last minute to avoid gatecrashers.

Conservatives predicted to win Hartlepool by-election
at 16:31 5 May 2021

They don't follow the sleaze stories because they aren't featured in the media they watch and read. And it doesn't affect their own values. And Johnson is behaving as they expect toffs to behave, ('God bless 'em'). There is no hope for any change until we move to a form proportional representation voting.

The takeover by Gamechanger 20 Ltd - The training ground land

For anyone still doubting the veracity of this thread, you'll notice that today Muncher's law firm have come out backing it. The last note was in press release form and includes the firm's name. They won't have wanted to be part of this if they hadn't looked at his argument, agreed with it and wanted to give him their backing. They see the value of being associated with the story.

It's fascinating that at the end of the development video, the graphics feature Town's win at Accrington last night. So it looks like game on.
