It's going to be very tight with teams like Shrewsbury and Exeter City that could tip things one way or another.

Former Blues Midfielder Huws Joins Colchester
at 18:42:02

I saw Romesh Ranganthan this week and without spoiling the show if you're going to see him, he talked about how sometimes you want something to be but really you know it isn't going to be. When Huwys was with us I really wanted him to succeed but it became clear that his injuries robbed him of pace and sharpness that was key to his game. I had to accept that as much as I wanted it, it wasn't to be.

Wishing Emyr every success at Colchester and for the rest of his career. At 28, he should not be done yet.

Bolton Wanderers 2-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 18:37:36

I was able to watch the game today and after a positive start a pattern developed that saw us have a lot of possession but little/no penetration. E.g. As soon as Penney failed to beat their wing back, he only really passed backwards for the rest of the game. He wasn't alone in not winning 1:1 battles - e.g. neither Bonne or Norwood were able to win balls in the air or hold the ball up and bring the likes of Aluko into play. I'm not sure Burns was able to beat his wing back either now I come to think about it. I don't think the quality of our players has changed, but the opposition does and we were nullified today.

The team battled, fought and both Bolton goals were quite fortunate (clearly the second was a howler for us). But we didn't really look like scoring today either and Bolton didn't make the mistakes we did, hence the result.

Whilst we have good players for this league I think we are still missing something in terms of quality on the pitch. Hopefully Celina, KVY at left wing back and Chaplin can bring that. Squad changes wise, a left-wing back who can terrorise the opposition would be a positive move. I also think we need something different in central midfield to partner Morsey.

Walton: Two Great Seasons Under Cook at Wigan
at 22:55:55

Welcome Christian, I hope and expect you will be a roaring success as we will certainly benefit from your experience and presence. I for one hope you will become as good for us as Bart was - which seems a long time ago!

For the questions as to why leave this signing so late, I think we need to remember that the players we want need to be available - and so I assume they have not been until now. 2 goalkeepers was stated as the plan from the beginning and with names suggested/rumoured and then not happening, I can only imagine those doing the recruitment have found this as frustrating as the rest of us.

With a defence of Walton, KVY, Edmundson, Burgess and Coulson we should have physicality, speed and good distribution from the back. I agree with the posts that say we need the commanding 2 midfielders in front of the back four, let's hope we can achieve that with the players we have.

Rotherham United 1-0 Ipswich Town - Match Report
at 21:58:20

Sad to say but I thought we were physically out muscled in the main, chasing the ball and chasing the game. We worked hard, it wasn't a lock of effort or conviction, but I think we need to keep hold of the ball better than we demonstrated tonight if we are to truly compete in games like this.

Rotherham are a good side in Legue 1, they are not top at this stage of the season for no reason. We need to keep our heads as this game doesn't define our season. We can still do this in the games remaining.

Emmanuel: Great to Be Back in Town Team
at 09:17:48

Agree with ArnieM, Emmanuel needs games as do our other players coming from the academy.
Honestly, I didn't think Emmanuel had a great game against Bristol City but it's too much to expect him to come into the team and be brilliant from the off. I thought Kenlock had a better game on Tuesday night after some disappointing performances so give them a run in the team and then decide

Judge: We'll Probably Sit Down in a Few Weeks
at 09:13:44

Surely Judge is one of the experienced pro's to keep to create the right blend of youth and experience to the team. Worth paying him championship wages as it looks like half the team will be players that have come through the academy, which is great!, but surely that allows 2 or 3 experienced players to be on championship wages.

McCarthy: A Huge Prize Awaits
at 12:34:09

We will need to be top of our game for sure as I agree Norwich have the better players on balance. Saying that, with Murphy and Sears we always have a goal threat with Saturday a great example. Sears was just getting his misses out of the way before he buries them against Norwich ;)

I agree we should go for it rather than try to absorb Norwich pressure - play to win rather than play not to lose. I cannot agree with Stephen Hunt playing though as he was shocking on Saturday. Maybe he thought we were playing in blue?!

My 11:
Bart
Chambo, Berra, Smith, Mings
Varney, Skuse, Bishop, Parr
Murphy, Sears

Bring on Ando, Noel Hunt and Bru from the subs bench to freshen it up from 60mins in.

McCarthy: Win Epitomised Us
at 19:20:06

So pleased we won today, really important with those around us winning too.
I think Skuse going off shows we need at least 2 more players in the loan market.
That's if SEB can get fit and stay fit otherwise I think we need 3!

Smith: We Can Reach Play-Offs
at 20:31:54

Totally agree alfromcol - being positive isn't the be all and end all but I bet all successful teams are positive about their chances and their abilities. If you don't believe in yourself then I think we have a different kind of problem

Reading 2-1 Town
at 22:18:42

I was at the game yesterday and I thought Loach did well. Their first goal needed a defender of the goalkeeper to take control so something for the defence to work on overall. That said, defence were solid, especially Smith and Chambers who I thought were very good. Full backs stuck to their task but offered us nothing going forward which we need to work on.
Rest of the team - midfield wise Edwards looked off the pace, Tabb very good, Hyam a bit laboured and Skuse had some classy touches but needed to have more impact on the game. I do think Skuse will be good though given a few games. Up front Murphy and McGoldrick were ok but had to make the most of a number of long balls. I thought Taylor looked sharp when he came on which is encouraging. Nouble and Anderson didn't really show much in the time they were on but if Nouble is going to continue with those bright yellow boots he'll have to make an impact to justify it. Reminds me of watching us at Reading's elm park ground when Darren Caskey came on for them with bright yellow boots to chants of you can stick your boots up your .....! We won 4-0 that day and whilst I can't see us winning too many by that score, under Mick I think we'll win quite a few this season.

I reckon Reading will be fighting it out for the top 2, we'll be fighting it out for the top 6.
