While a massive contract like this is a statement of how much we value him, I assume that there are many other factors that will make his mind up. Ultimately, can the board give him the guarantees he needs to be able to develop the squad to the degree and at the pace he'd like?
I feel like we will be hamstrung by the profit & sustainability rules compared to other clubs and that this may be what makes the difference in the end.
This has almost certainly been posted but I haven't seen it mentioned so thought I'd share:
Great analysis which made me appreciate some of our play even more (I love the bit about getting it in the mixer but how we sometimes actually move the mixer).
Fills me with confidence that KM will continue to adapt our tactics and style for the Prem and makes me think that if we continue to add to our squad with more athletic and technical players then we will thrive.
The only "proper" sports shop is More Sports on Queen Street. I don't think you'll find any town gear there or anywhere else. Maybe a very limited choice at Sports Direct in Tollgate
I thought he was good defensively but clearly not as comfortable on the ball as the rest of our defenders. Doesn't know what to do with the ball once he passes the halfway line
I thought he was excellent on Saturday. His contribution to Omari's goal should not be underestimated; Omari himself noted that it was "planned" on the pitch and I saw someone on twitter say that they heard him shout out to Omari immediately before the nod on.
I love how quickly he has been able to fit our style of play and get on the same wavelength as team mates - always seems to make the right run to near post or back post unlike, for example, Freddie before him
Ok, so it's a bit of a provocative title! But my question is really aimed at those who slate Jackson and Ladapo. If they aren't good enough at this level then why does he play them? Maybe he's not such a good judge of a player after all...
Genuinely interested to hear why people who don't rate them think he picks them
I'm guessing it was down to a choice of continuing to pay his wages while injured vs holding on for a transfer fee at the end of the season. I suspect Oxford will work with him now to get him fit and then sign him on a free.
Top bloke and clearly well liked within the squad. Was fabulous on the pitch at times. I hope he does well with Oxford
I also thought this was interesting (both as a fact and because surely it's easier to just say 2): "the name Nigel is now officially extinct when it comes to babies. In 2020 the Office for National Statistics revealed less than three babies had been named Nigel in the entire year"
Re. Boro away, slightly off topic but when I was a young man and we were last in the Premier league, I remember a bar on a boat with a live strip show right next to the Riverside before the game. Or was that Sunderland?
Does anyone else remember this or am I imagining it?
I'm really excited about tonight's game, under the lights at PR, proper winter weather, a near full house. And then swiftly followed by Cov at home on Saturday. Feels like we're entering the business part of the season with some very tough tests coming up - if we are top 3 or 4 by end of Jan then it will have been a good period.
I've got a really good feeling about the next 2 games. Think we'll be tighter at the back than we have been at home for a while and we'll score a few too.
That's it really, just felt like sharing. Slow afternoon at work...
I've seen a few posts suggesting that we need another striker in the George Hirst mould in the Jan window.
Whilst I would be happy to see another arrival in Jan, personally I think that we already have that player in Dane Scarlett. To me he looks to have all of the physical attributes and has been getting more minutes recently, presumably as he becomes more familiar with the role KMcK wants him to play. Am I alone in thinking that if he gets a bit more game time and a goal to his name then he will be flying?
He looks like a really exciting prospect to me. Shame that he is only here on loan and possibly/probably out of our price range.
Some of the young Col U fans try to create a rivalry that, in my opinion, doesn't really exist. I think there are plenty that support both. I used to occasionally take my kids to Layer Road when they were younger and I always follow Col U results. I know a couple of guys who sometimes go to Col when Town are away from home.
I even once watched Ipswich vs Col U from the away end with two of my Col supporting mates in a cup game. 2007/2008-ish I think. Thoroughly enjoyed it, Kevin Lisbie scored for us after we'd bought him from them the season before.
Over the years I've watched Town from pretty much every area of all 4 stands so it was cool to have also watched a game from the away section :)
I would also add that Colchester & district is fertile ground for Ipswich to pick up academy players. When my son was playing local football as a teenager, it seemed like as many of the promising boys ended up in the Ipswich system as the Col U system. Obvious examples include Cam Humphreys, Elkan and Albie Armin
