| Forum Reply | how are T Levels regarded? at 19:22 6 Dec 2023
If he is very clear on the career path he wants to follow, I wouldn't exclude it but you should research opportunities in Higher and Degree level apprenticeships and the entry requirements. The advantage of these is that they offer primarily workplace training alongside relevant higher/degree study. The biggest advantage is that he would be paid while getting a degree. The application is to the employer not the university so they will be looking for commitment and relevant skills as well as academic performance. In that context it may be that a relevant Tech qualification will help. I'm not sure if it is possible but if he is talented at Maths doing that at A level alongside the T level will always be a bonus in getting into engineering and related fields. It is not an easy option because at the best companies apprenticeships are very competitive but worth looking into. [Post edited 6 Dec 2023 19:29]

| Forum Thread | Norwich Tickets at 12:23 28 Nov 2023
Forgive me if everyone else understood this or I missed in earlier thread but I phoned the ticket office this morning to check whether my son who is a member without a season ticket but without the 3 games (he's been to three but has always used my or a friends season ticket) could buy tomorrow. I had assumed it was priority for loyalty and couldn't understand why I could now buy him a ticket (if any left) but he couldn't get one for himself. I was told that the 3 game limit has nothing to do with priority based on loyalty but is simply a "security' measure to stop Norwich fans buying a membership to get tickets and it will not be used for any other game this season however high demand is for tickets. Hotels in London are eye wateringly expensive these days but Premier Inns remain good value. There are three around Waterloo including one in the old County Hall and one next door to Southwark Underground Station all accessible to Jubilee Line to O2. (There is also one at Canary Wharf). |
| Forum Reply | Charles Walker pulling no punches at 13:27 20 Oct 2022
Interesting point but I think it misunderstands the nature of party politics. I have been a member of the Labour Party since 1979 not because I see it as as an end itself but I have certain values and believe that a fairer society in a mixed economy can only be achieved through state intervention and a properly funded public realm. My perspectives have changed over time and God knows the party has seen its ups and downs but I still have seen no convincing alternative to electing a Labour Government, however imperfect, to deliver that. A view I think well demonstrated by the overall record of delivery from1997 to 2010. The key word here is electing. However great your ideals they simply can't be achieved if you're not in power, be that locally or nationally. That is why I felt anger very similar to Charles Walker after the 2019 elections reflecting on Corbyn and the party members who were his cheerleaders. Consigning the party to electoral oblivion was yes a disaster for the party but through that it was a disaster for the people who would have been helped by a Labour Government. I do Charles Walker enough credit from what I have seen of his record to think that he also believes in positive outcomes for people - good education, health services etc. But, I think misguidedly, he thinks that this can be best achieved through an unfettered free market and a Tory Government. So to him the biggest crime is making the Tory Party unelectable not simply for selfish reasons but because to him it is a betrayal of his constituents and the people he thinks can only benefit if there is a Tory Government. He may be profoundly wrong but I absolutely understand were he is coming from. [Post edited 20 Oct 2022 14:47]

I do remember it and the hardship it caused many, as well as exactly the same media hype although admittedly with less outlets. But more importantly it is a lazy and inaccurate comparison. I know it's a struggle for some to grasp but global temperature change actual matters as much to us as what happens on our little island. Think this may have been posted before but it bears repetition for some like OP who obviously missed it. |
| Forum Reply | VPN at 11:58 29 Oct 2021
I use Express VPN which works in France in Safari on my laptop for BBC, Sky and other sites but it often doesn't work on equivalent apps on iPad or iPhone. At home in UK I can use it to watch iFollow via overseas server on laptop but again not on the app. My assumption is that this is because some apps eg BBC iPlayer will only work with location services enabled on the iPad and IPhone, and this will show location of the equipment irrespective of server location. I must admit because thus far I've always have option to use the laptop I haven't tried using iPad browser instead of Apps but that may get over the problem. It is also of course true that content providers are getting more sophisticated in blocking VPN traffic. |
| Forum Reply | Why can I no longer get net connection using Chrome? When Safari's fine at 23:07 9 Oct 2020
One thing that may help while you're stuck with Safari - if your main issue is grey text on black background. This is part of Mac's optional "dark mode". If you go to settings on main menu bar and select general you can set to "light" which amongst other thing will change the safari toolbar to a light background. Personally while I've used other browsers I always come back to Safari as it simply works best and fastest on Mac. But accept everyone has their own preference. [Post edited 9 Oct 2020 23:07]

You mention battery life so this might work for you https://www.motorola.co.uk/products/moto-g-power-gen-7 My son has had Motorolas which have served him well. Always apple for me but not within your budget. To pay £15 a month you will almost certainly have to commit to 24month contract, you should consider buying outright and getting sim only from around £8 per month. |

For last two matches there with trains from London not working, I have used https://www.yourparkingspace.co.uk No problems so far and have again just booked a space 10-15 mins walk from ground for £4.50. Because it's central get away will be slow but as all happy after a win sure we'll cope!! |

Unfortunately missed tonight as had late meeting I couldn't get out of. Managed to watch on Sky - talk about game of two halves. Anyway to get to the point. No idea if OP is accurate but just reflected on what this board might have been like in the early days of Sir Bobby's tenure. Lest we forget he chinned the team captain in the dressing room. Imagine the hysteria that would have led to on here! I know I'm old fashioned but very simple to me. Change is never comfortable, confidence is vital and any manager must be given a chance. I will be there on Saturday supporting the team and looking forward to first win of season. Simples! |

My son stayed on train as staying up for weekend with ex University friends. Train finally got in at around 3:20. Headed to ground in a taxi found someone to sell him a ticket just in time for goal! Virtue rewarded (so far at least!) |

Was on way - got 12:15 from St Pancras, ground to halt at Bedford - person under a train between there and Kettering. Likely to be at least another hour delay. Luckily stopped at station so able to get off and now on Thameslink back to London. Hope you made it through before the incident and enjoy the game. COYB |

Ibis next to Bristol Temple Meads station is new and ok - regular train just under 40 mins to Cheltenham. If you book via Booking.Com you can usually get free cancellation so if you do get something better no loss. Prices probably hiked a bit for festival week but still should be well within your budget. |

Just for completeness - from BBC report of same story: A council spokesman said: "We are very sorry that this has happened. We expect our enforcement officers to show common sense and to use their powers sensibly. "This clearly did not happen. "The fine will be cancelled immediately and we have contacted Mr Spicer and his daughter to apologise." |

My advice head south. The Draft House on Tower Bridge Road is about 10 minutes walk over Tower Bridge and then there are more interesting pubs in Bermondsey/London Bridge |
